Keep in mind we bought her at auction without ever meeting the owner! The owner was sailing along and ran aground - hard. Hard enough that the keel pivoted and pushed the aft end up into the hull. This force cracked the internal grid in several places and broke a portion of the grid free from hull. At some point an inspection was done, insurance was called and decisions were made. If you were to buy a brand new Performance Cruising Cat today, what would you get?! As the Annapolis Boat Show comes to a close, we look at the Top 10 boats we would have liked to see during the show. We provide our thoughts on the types of questions you should ask when buying, what we consider important for a cruising cat, and list the pros and cons for each vessel. We're sorry! But here are the corrections we wish we could go back and make: 1) The WINDELO price was off badly. We're not sure where we got that information (as price info is hard to find, especially on new boats), but the price should be $1.1m USD. This is down significantly from the $1.6m we reported. It's an interesting boat and one that everyone should check out if you find that layout interesting! And we love their Eco approach. Hopefully that spurs more competitors to do the same. 2) The SEAWIND 1600 is now heavier than reported. After producing the first few hulls they saw a need for improved Heavy Displacement payload and widened it a bit. I'm not sure it affects performance that much, but it is a change from what we reported. 3) The people at ITA reached out to inform us that you can get both Diesel and Electric engines on their new design. Again, this is a pretty cool new boat and very similar to Outremer in terms of design (and probably performance). If you're looking for the fancy Italian version of that French yard, go check them out. Also of note, this boat is Epoxy Infused, which is one of only three boats listed here to have this strong production method. 4) The OC50 from HH CATAMARANS is also Epoxy Infused, making them one of three - along with the KINETIC KC54 (not sure we mentioned that). Epoxy is reportedly 3 times stronger than Polyester and Vinylester (although that depends on the yard producing them). Either way, it is a more expensive production technique and you should know what you are paying for and why. Keep forward, use heel and adjust the sail to steer a Laser without using the rudder. For tacks move back into the cockpit of the boat. In the video the rudder is down but is free to move. The boat behaves the same with the rudder completely removed.

A step by step guide to bearing away at a windward mark for any sailing boat, especially the Laser. In a good bear away the boat should turn quickly on to the new course while maintaining speed or possibly accelerating. The most important factor is turning the boat on to the new course, in turn letting the mainsheet out is the most important thing to do in order for this to happen. As a minimum think, "did I get my boat onto the correct course quickly?" "Did I let the mainsheet out quickly?" Beyond this the steps outlined in the video are.... 1. Ease the kicker 2. Prepare by moving back (not much in light wind, progressively more as the wind increases) and preparing to let the mainsheet out quickly. 3. Ease the mainsheet and lean back to bear away 4. Check the course and the mainsheet is set 5. Adjust controls and daggerboard for the new leg. Try practicing around a short course and in lighter winds have a go at letting go of the tiller extension to gain an understanding of how to turn the boat without using the rudder which will in turn help maintain speed. No two mark rounding's will be the same so seek out challenges by, for example, approaching the buoy on port and tack before bearing away.

In Episode 45 entführe ich Euch einmal in die Unterwasserwelt bei einem Tauchgang im Museo Nautico. Es befindet sich in der Nähe von Colorades, Playa Blanca, Lanzarote. Für uns Segler ist es vom Ankerplatz Papagayo mit dem Beiboot leicht zu erreichen. Der Tauchspot eignet sich auch für Tauchanfänger und geht auch maximal 15 m Tauchtiefe. Der Künstler Jason deCaires Taylor - bekannt durch ähnliche UW-Installationen in Grenada, Cancun, Mexico - hat hier 2016 einzigartige Figurengruppen am Meeresboden platziert,. Der Bezug auf die enormen Flüchtlingsprobleme wird sofort sichtbar. Ein für mich besonderer Aspekt ist die Schaffung eines kleinen, künstlichen Riffes zum Schutz der Flora und Fauna im Atlantik. We are under attack and we're on the hunt for the Jurassic culprit. It's been really windy and we have been bunkered down, so when the wind looked like it had eased just a fraction we decided to put up the sails to go restock our pantries and water supply. Once we got away from the protection of the island we realised that it was still very windy. We had a cracker of a sail downwind towards Airlie Beach. Approaching Hamilton Island we experience the worst confused seas yet with swell coming from multiple directions and wind against current, Nakama was in a huge washing machine. We glided down the Molle Channel at 8 knots and to top it all off, close-hauled up towards Airlie, we can't believe we finally made it here. Soph has a friend in Airlie Beach and she has let us use her car to do washing, shopping and even have a shower! After we refuel and top the water tanks, we are back out to the Whitsunday Islands which we can only imagine as a tropical Canada. Oh we also lose our drone, R.I.P.
