Yep, big changes are afoot. In our first video of 2022 we share a (live) life update. Archer is for sale and I got a job. Tune in for all the details! Click here to see a boat tour: https://youtu.be/6r2VRG0X3wg Click here to see the Multihull Central Interview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZ2JOMH3Bgg&t=1062s Click here to learn more about my new employer: https://www.hhcatamarans.com/news/2022/2/2/hudson-yacht-group-announces-new-hh-catamarans-president Don't worry. The Sailing Family will continue! We still have about 6 months of footage to share as we sail up past the Whitsunday islands and go as far north as Lizard Island. We then turn around and blast south to Sydney for Christmas and New Years Eve. We give you a sneak peak here, but it will be worth hanging around for - and we're not quitting! We might be selling Archer, but that doesn't mean we won't buy a new boat. Sailing is a big part of our lives and we all want that to continue. Speaking of which, I (Seth) am excited about my new job in the boating industry. I want to thank HH Catamarans for inviting me to join the team. I can't wait to dive in and help the company on its continuing climb to success. If you want to learn more about the company, please visit www.HHCatamarans.com - or better yet, come see me at the Miami Boat Show in two weeks! ---------------------- We are posting live updates on our social channels: https://www.the-sailing-family.com/ https://www.instagram.com/the_sailing_family/ https://www.facebook.com/the-sailing-family-voyage/ 0:00 - Life Update 0:48 - Archer is for sale 1:50 - Here are the details 2:32 - Seth got a job! 4:18 - The Sailing Family will continue! 5:43 - Here's what's coming - the next six months! 5:59 - Whitsundays 8:04 - Kepple Island to Magnetic 8:24 - Townsville 8:33 - Zoe Falls 9:05 - Cairns 10:03 - Michalmas Cay to Magnetic Island & Port Douglas 10:27 - Cooktown to Lizard Island & the Great Barrier Reef 10:58 - And back down again to Sydney! ----------------- ABOUT US: We are a family of five sailing around the world on a performance catamaran named "Archer" and sharing our adventures in family-friendly episodes every Tuesday! We explore one of sailing's most sacred stops and leave our mark! We also anchor by drone, feed sting rays stranded in a decaying resort pool, witness the migration of butterflies, avoid military target practice, sail into the Whitsunday's and Pierce turns 8! It's a jam packed, sailing packed, episode to bring 2021 to a close. This will be our last episode for 2021 so we can spend time with our family over the holiday season. But don't worry, we will be back in 2022 with more adventures in the Whitsunday's and beyond! We want to thank everyone for supporting us during 2021. Our little channel went from 30,000 subscribers to 66,00 in just one year! We've loved reading your comments and meeting viewers along the way. Many of which have now become lifelong friends (you know who you are!). So, Happy Holidays world! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. We visit Lady Musgrave, a coral atoll at the beginning of the Great Barrier Reef and witness a rare sight: a complete glass-off in the middle of the ocean. We also discuss the sailing community. On the water we are "cruisers" and we face the same challenges and rewards as the cruisers around us. To have sailed our homes to this spot is our unifying thread and it quickly bonds us. Out here we are all looking for companionship and community - and that simply doesn't happen at home, on land. You know it's good cruising when the next anchorage is better than the last, and it just keeps happening and happening. You find your favorite anchorage in all of Australia, and then the next one tops it. And the one after that is even better that the new one. Yep, life is good in Queensland as we sail up to the Great Barrier Reef. This is Part 2 of our Top 10 Performance Cruising Cat Review (2022 models) where we narrow it down to the Top 3 boats we would look and tell you why. Thank you all for your great comments and contribution to this video. We've updated some of our thoughts from last time (see corrections below) and included two boats that should have been part of the first review. Now it's a Top 12! Tell us, which would you pick? If you were to buy a brand new Performance Cruising Cat today, what would you get?! As the Annapolis Boat Show comes to a close, we look at the Top 10 boats we would have liked to see during the show. We provide our thoughts on the types of questions you should ask when buying, what we consider important for a cruising cat, and list the pros and cons for each vessel. Just looking for a particular boat? No problem, just skip to the chapters below: Take our 1 question survey, which boat would you buy?: https://forms.gle/tXWZEFQCNb8Wovnv7 CORRECTIONS: Since the release of this video we have been informed of a few (inevitable) mistakes. We're sorry! But here are the corrections we wish we could go back and make: 1) The WINDELO price was off badly. We're not sure where we got that information (as price info is hard to find, especially on new boats), but the price should be $1.1m USD. This is down significantly from the $1.6m we reported. It's an interesting boat and one that everyone should check out if you find that layout interesting! And we love their Eco approach. Hopefully that spurs more competitors to do the same. 2) The SEAWIND 1600 is now heavier than reported. After producing the first few hulls they saw a need for improved Heavy Displacement payload and widened it a bit. I'm not sure it affects performance that much, but it is a change from what we reported. 3) The people at ITA reached out to inform us that you can get both Diesel and Electric engines on their new design. Again, this is a pretty cool new boat and very similar to Outremer in terms of design (and probably performance). If you're looking for the fancy Italian version of that French yard, go check them out. Also of note, this boat is Epoxy Infused, which is one of only three boats listed here to have this strong production method. 4) The OC50 from HH CATAMARANS is also Epoxy Infused, making them one of three - along with the KINETIC KC54 (not sure we mentioned that). Epoxy is reportedly 3 times stronger than Polyester and Vinylester (although that depends on the yard producing them). Either way, it is a more expensive production technique and you should know what you are paying for and why. Finally we have guests! After a solid year of not seeing any friends or family, we finally have some good friends visit from Melbourne. They've had a longer lock down than the rest of Australia, so they were just as relieved to get out and meet us! We depart Mooloolaba for Moreton Island where we sand board, beach party and snorkel the famous Tangalooma Wrecks. This was magic! Team Archer sails into Sydney Harbor, celebrates this milestone, and reminisces about the past. This was our final sail on SV Honeymoon back in 2009, and we couldn't help but feel a little nostalgic doing it again, this time with our kids. It was special seeing through their eyes the Sydney Opera House for the first time and exploring a new, magical city. It was a dream come true! Literally! (Minus the bug infestation, rainy weather and near collision with a sea plane.) So we ask you, which is better? The Opera House or the Statue of Liberty!? ? As we try to flee Cyclone Season, we get approval from Australia to enter, but then Queensland changes the State's rules that count-time-at-sea. As we apply for an exemption, we get hit by the first tropical low of the season. But then it turns into TWO tropical lows. Then two tropical CYCLONES / HURRICANES. Then one of them heads right for us and turns into Cyclone Yasa, a CATEGORY 5 Cyclone and the second most powerful in South Pacific history.
