We work on putting the final floor into The Hull Fame, and reinforce the area around our chainplates - which will then allow us to adhere all the bulkheads to the hull sides. This week's episode has us putting the new floor in for what will be our sail locker between bulkheads 2&3. Also known as, The Hull of Fame. ;) We get the ok from our designer and engineer that we can switch around the webbing and the floor, which will give us just a bit more room in there for storage. Next, we finally tackle the task of reinforcing the area behind the chainplates, which requires three sheets of unidirectional fiberglass, and two layers of 45/45 double biased. But now that it's done, we can work on glassing the bulkheads to the hull side. To throw a little excitement into our lives as well, we spend one afternoon hopping on The Marylander, where our friend Jason is captain. Giovanni Soldini e il suo equipaggio - in viaggio a bordo di Maserati Multi 70 verso Malta per partecipare alla Rolex Middle Sea Race - hanno incontrato stamattina tra Stromboli e Messina i volontari di Sea Shepherd, l’organizzazione internazionale senza fini di lucro la cui missione è quella di fermare la distruzione dell’habitat naturale e il massacro delle specie selvatiche negli oceani per conservare e proteggere l’ecosistema e le differenti specie. I volontari di Sea Shepherd Italia sono impegnati nelle acque intorno alle Isole Eolie nell’Operazione SISO, che ha l’obiettivo di combattere le attività di pesca illegale e liberare il Mediterraneo da più plastica possibile. In particolare l’organizzazione sta recuperando reti spadare e FAD (Fishing Aggregative Devices) illegali: metodi di pesca formati da un filo di propilene che tiene a galla delle larghe foglie, sotto alle quali si raduna una gran quantità di pesci che viene pescata indiscriminatamente. I FAD provocano danni gravissimi all’ecosistema marino, catturando e uccidendo anche tartarughe, delfini, capodogli, balenottere e squali. Giovanni Soldini commenta:«I volontari di Sea Shepherd stanno facendo un lavoro pazzesco nei nostri mari per cercare di difenderli dall'assurda noncuranza di chi vuole solo depredarne le risorse a qualsiasi costo. Ci sono chilometri di cavi in plastica che vengono abbandonati in mare: è ora di capire che il mare va rispettato, non è una risorsa infinita ed è fondamentale per la sopravvivenza dell’uomo su questo pianeta. In this episode we (Nicole & Nick) install 900 watts of solar power. We put soft solar panels on Bimini and ran wires down through cabin top next to Mizzen Mast. we installed controller/Regulator in closet under mizzen mast. then we ran wires under floor to battery bank that is located under after cabin bed.
