We arrive at the airport to find out of flight was delayed. We board and fly back to Canada, Lenny sleeps at Bayly's feet. We arrive back in Canada to lots of snow and -23 degree Celsius weather. Are car won't start and we get stranded at Austins parents house. Austin replaces the starter on the car. We unpack in the house we are house sitting at for the next few months. We both get sick :((( There is sooo much snow. Bayly makes nachos. Bayly does a final update, we are selling the boat and have moved back to Canada permanently. Bayly gets a job a a salon as a hairstylist again and Austin applies for apprenticeships. We can't believe this adventure is all over! Thank you so much for watching and following along our journey as we sailed around Europe over the last few years! We had an absolute blast :D Lenny is SO happy to be home! We are already planning whats in store for us next and we will be sure to keep you posted on here! What a ride.
Bayly shaves Austins head. We visit the Porto Cathedral and walk around inside. Bayly makes homemade croissants. Austin picks oranges from the backyard and makes fresh orange juice. We go for a hike along a river and beautiful waterfall. Bayly does her makeup and hair and gets ready to go out for dinner in Porto Portugal. We drive to the Atlantic ocean and spend the afternoon exploring along the beach and come across an island temple.
We lay out all our flags from the boat and decide how we are going to make a flag wall at out house when back in Canada. Bayly chills in the hot tub. Bayly makes sweet potato fries and burgers.
We arrive at our airbnb in Portugal. Bayly walks through the house and gives a full tour.
It is Austins first time skiing. He goes up the mountain alone and once he is at the top he realizes he doesn't know how to slow down or turn. He has a five huge crashes and ends up having to walk all the way down the mountain in ski boots. We go to a really cool restaurant that grow all their own food and farm there own sturgeon on site. We walk around after dinner and explore inside the greenhouses at everything we ate during dinner. We drive all the way back to Spain from Switzerland for Austin the polish the boat and sleep in the car for the night. Bayly tapes off the teak to prep for caulking. We drive from Spain the our place in Portugal. A lady at the truck stop says Austin looks like Ryan Gosling and he is in a better mood for the rest of the drive.
Bayly makes homemade cinnamon buns on Christmas morning. We go tobogganing on the side of the mountain. We make cheese fondu back at the cabin. Car rides on the windy mountain road. Lenny no we are leaving and refuses to come inside. We go snowboarding on the mountain.
We arrive at our cabin in Switzerland in the middle of the night. With no wood to start a fire we have a chilly night. In the morning we get wood and get a fire going. We decide to head our and go to town to get christmas presents for each other and snow chains so we don't get snowed in up at the top of the mountain. The view from our place is insane! We pick up groceries and stock up the cabin. Bayly makes fajitas and sees foxes outside the cabin. We chill out in the hot tub. Bayly serves egg sandwiches on the deck. We go tobogganing.
Bayly's face is covered in anti foul after doing the bottom paint all day. Austin sands and primes our boat and it looks amazing. We sleep in the car in the shipyard over night while Austin waxes and polishes the boat. We are supposed to already be in Switzerland but we are running late with getting the boat ready. We get 50 plus knots of wind and it is too dangerous to sleep on the boat or work beside it on the hard. Lenny passes out in the car, loaded with everything we own. We pull an all nighter working on the boat, the painters tape wont come off. We run into issues with our polishing tool, and realize we need to come back to Spain after Switzerland. Starting our drive across Europe.
Austin removes moisture from the rudder, replaces the foam inside, and re fibreglasses it. We sand off the bottom paint and it turns Austin blue. A band plays Christmas music outside out apartment, the next morning a choir sings outside out balcony. Bayly blow drys the fibreglass to help it dry, we have a long night working on the boat in the dark. Our amazon package with out warm stuff for Switzerland finally arrives and Bayly goes to the marina office to it pick it up. Bayly does laundry. Bayly primes the haul of the boat before starting bottom paint. Austin is still working on the rudder and spills primer all over his shoes. Austin has to take 4 different busses to pick up the rental car when he gets there they charge him double what he was quoted when he arrives. We park our rental car when we get back to our apartment and in the morning find out its been towed away. Austin has to try to track down the car. They charged us like crazy for the towing & ticket. Bayly anti-fouls the haul of the boat. We are running out of time and debate not leaving. We pick a boat broker.
Austin spends the day doing a bunch of little jobs on the boat. He polishes the propellor. We pack up the boat and move into an apartment so its easier to get the boat ready to sell without us living on it. Bayly reminisces on the things we have collected on the boat along the way around Europe. We arrive in our apartment and overload it with all our boat stuff. Bayly picks up groceries and struggles to find a place to fit it all in the mini fridge. Apartment tour. Lenny is happy to have a house that doesn't move. Organizing. Bayly makes fajitas and then realizes she forgot the wraps for it. Cozy move night in bed. Austin does an il change on the boat engine. Bayly attempts fajitas on night number 2 now that she has wraps.
Broker comes to look at our boat. Bayly cleans inside the boat. We spend our last night ever on the boat. Lenny snuggles up in bed. Still fully in shock that this will be our last night ever. Bayly packs everything up in suitcases to bring to the apartment we rented. Reminiscing on what we have done over the last two years sailing around Europe and how much has changed. The struggles with weather, storms, and trying to learn the ever changing languages in each country. Concerns about integrating back into normal life in Canada.
Austin locks the keys in the boat and needs to grind the lock off, or so he thought... after grinding the lock off he realizes the keys were in his pocket the whole time. We walk Lenny on the beach and through town. Austin cleans the teak. Bayly sews up the couch and bed covers, looks like new! One last time out on the water before we haul out and we are getting 25 plus knots of wind. We haul out our boat Northern Exposure for the final time. We find a boat with a super cool name. We have an issue with the stand for our boat, the ship yard wants to put us on wood, eventually we come to an agreement with the guys in the shipyard and get the metal stands. Bayly orders warm clothes from amazon for her and Austin for Switzerland. Austin does and oil and fuel filter change, and paints engine mounts with black paint to clean it up. We have lots more work to do over the next week.
After arriving in Tarragona Spain Bayly does some Laundry at the marina, then we explore some ancient Roman ruins. We leave the marina and set sail for our FINAL destination in ruff seas. We contact brokers and prep the boat for sale.
The marina lets us borrow their car to get groceries. Lenny goes for a walk. Bayly makes breakfast. We are stuck at another marina because of bad weather and spend a few days cozying in on the boat and cleaning. Lenny has a bath. We go to the pet store and Lenny picks out a squeaky town and some treats. We head into town at night, look at all the Christmas lights in town and go inside a beautiful church built in 1570. Bayly picks up a fresh loaf of bread from the store for with dinner and makes truffle pasta. Before we leave the docks the following morning for our next 40 mile sail Bayly hits her head really hard off the top of the sliding glass door of the boat, we leave and durning the sail she starts feeling a seizure coming on and we need to turn back. We go to the grocery store Austin says he is only spending 10 euros and we end up leaving with a full cart spending over 100... We set sail the following morning and go 40 miles, passing by large cargo ships. We pull into our next marina just before sunset.
We hike to a pretty little town in Spain. We find old artillery bunkers and explore inside. Lunch picnic. The wind is so strong we can't stand up, Austin tries to fly. We secure the boat for an extremely windy night. Bayly does the lost expensive laundry ever at the marina. Stuck at a marina in Spain for a week due to the gale. We go to the grocery store and pick up stuff for breakfast. We walk around the town of L' Escala Spain. Snowy mountains in the distance.
Changing landscapes and changing climates as we sail around Europe. Cruising in November. We go for a hike with Lenny, surprised by how cool this area of Spain looks in the daylight because we arrived at night from France. A dock in the middle of nowhere all to our selves. Austin films some jellyfish. We have a run in with a naked man at our boat in the middle of nowhere. We leave and set sail for our first marina in Spain, THE WIND IS FINALLY BEHIND US! Sunset sailing.
After a day of 30 knot winds sailing we have a sushi picnic. Then we go to a beach made up of only seashells. We arrive at our last marina in France. We set sail for Spain. Bayly makes nachos onboard. We cross the boarder into Spain and Austin switches over our France flag for the Spain one. We arrive at an empty anchorage and old abandoned dock in the dark, Bayly stands watch on the bow as we aren't sure if its deep enough. In the morning we realize how beautiful this area is, Bayly finds a mass of jelly fish near shore and we got for a hike with Lenny. Theres a bear nearby :)
We leave our anchorage and set sail for the most beautiful desert oasis. When we arrive we take Lenny for a walk along the beach and watch the most incredible sunset. In the morning we set start our 40 mile sail to a marina we thought we had booked... someone navigated wrong... and Bayly ends up radioing the wrong marina for an hour in their port only to realize we aren't in the right place and need to head out in the dark our actual port.
Sailing through some choppy weather to our next spot. We take Lenny for a walk on a deserted beach and find a huge sailing yacht run aground buried in the sand. More sailing clips :)
We desperately need diesel but the pumps are all off. We spend another freezing cold night on anchor and then set sail for Marseille. Our good weather actually ends up turning really nasty mid passage, we all bundle up in blankets... even Lenny :) We head to a beautiful anchorage in the middle of nowhere to get out of to wind so we can walk Lenny and lift the dingy up on the roof. At the anchor Austin paddles to shore and Bayly and Lenny climb up a cliff and see come cool stuff. The wind is so strong we have been able to sail with just a reefed main. We leave the anchorage and pass a big giant island castle at sunset. We arrive in Marseille Bayly radios the marina with no response, we may be too late. Austin hooks us up with DOMINOS PIZZA!
