Canadian Ken and I tracked down a true barn-find time capsule — a 1974 Cheoy Lee Offshore 31 Ketch that’s been sitting under a hoop barn for three years, just waiting for the right sailor to bring her back to life. Only about 150 of these Herreshoff-inspired classics were ever built. Designed off the Bermuda 30, she’s a solid-fiberglass, full-keel cruiser with integral concrete ballast, teak decks, and that unmistakable Cheoy Lee craftsmanship. Below decks you’ll find warm teak-and-holly floors, a cozy galley with room for a propane stove, a solid-fuel heater, V-berth forward, and captain-and-mate bunks in the salon. Power comes from a tough 31-hp Universal diesel, and she carries a full suite of sails — main, mizzen, jib, and spinnaker — plus wood masts, new stainless lifelines (2020), and new steering cables (2022). The price? $8,000, including yard stands and extras. Plus the boat can stay where she is until she's ready to launch. The challenge? Survival mode looks a little different at anchor. With the inverter gone, we start rethinking how to power life aboard Dark Angel. In this episode of Sailing Dark Angel, still at Staniel Cay, we pull out our lightning-damaged Magnum inverter and see what’s left of it. After a quick swim in the clear blue water, we get to work wiring our 100-litre Dometic freezer directly to the batteries for DC power, so we can finally give the generator a break and enjoy a little quiet aboard. ⚠️ Lightning Strike Update We were directly struck by lightning. Navigation systems, running lights, anchor lights, work lights, a large freezer, and even our keel were damaged. We're still facing VAT, duty, exchange rates, customs brokerage, and a costly haul-out for keel repairs in the Dominican Republic. Current items still needing repair/replacement include our Isotherm freezer in the saloon, our AIS and keel repairs. Also, our newly replaced wind instruments aren't working. At the norht coast of the Gulf of Corinth, hidden between steep mountains and deep vallies, lies the world famous ancient city of Delphi. We visited the old ruins and were impressed by the 2 km in which the complex was build. We read about how kings and generals, not only from Greece but from Italy and Turkye made the long journey to the Oracle to ask their questions. In our latest blog we write about how the ritual of asking questions went, how the Oracle gave her answer and what examples were of questions and answers.
