Late last year, we visited the Viking Yachts factory to check in and film a behind-the-scenes look at what truly sets Viking apart. Seeing the Viking factory in person is something special. From hull construction through to final fit-out, it offers a rare look at the depth of craftsmanship and the range of options available across each model. Very few production builders provide this level of flexibility, visibility, and attention to detail throughout the build process. At the core of it all is a simple philosophy. Build a better boat every day. No cutting corners. No shortcuts. Just an uncompromising commitment to quality, performance, and continual improvement.
The first Regal LX43 has just landed in Australia, setting a new standard for how a dayboat should feel. The Regal LX43 is built around one essential idea: make space work smarter. At the heart of it are the fold-down terrace doors. Open both sides of the cockpit and watch the boat transform. You are no longer sitting in a confined helm station. You are standing on a genuine on-water platform. It is a game changer at anchor, turning a traditional cockpit into an expansive social space. This is what the LX range does best. It focuses on usable space, natural flow, and real comfort without sacrificing performance. The layout feels open and connected throughout, supported by Regal’s FasTrac hull for speed, efficiency, and a smoother ride. The result is a boat built for how you actually use it. Entertaining guests, unwinding at anchor, and moving seamlessly between zones. It is not just more space. It is smarter space.
Episode 26 of Short Stories follows our first ever Short Marine Social Club client event, a day out on the water exploring the iconic Tangalooma Wrecks. We picked up our customers from Runaway Bay before heading north in convoy, with the weather absolutely turning it on for the day. The fleet made its way across the bay, with us aboard the Regal 38 SAV, enjoying a perfect run over to Moreton Island. Great boats, great people, and one of Queensland’s most incredible boating destinations. Days like this are exactly what the Short Marine community is all about.
Two families, one shared passion for boating. For over 60 years, Viking Yachts has lived by a simple mantra: "Build a better boat every day." What resonates between Short Marine and the Healey Family is the same passion for boating. Both are third-generation, family-owned businesses that believe in creating unforgettable experiences on the water without compromise.

There are 209 models across Short Marine's brands, and with only 16 to showcase, there’s a reason behind every one. Each show takes months of planning, from bump-in to bump-out, sales training, and everything in between. But what really drives our decisions is the boating experience we want each customer to have. It’s about building a snapshot of who they are, not just what they can buy. With the variety we represent, we’re never trying to fit someone into a boat. We’re finding the right boat for them. See behind the scenes of the 2025 SCIBS Boat Show. We’ll see you next at the Sydney Boat Show this month in November.
