The catfish is filleted and cleaned—now the real work begins. In Part 2 of this series, I break down how I prep and season fresh catfish for fish balls, straight from the galley. This is where texture, balance, and flavor matter. Simple ingredients, no waste. My Pirate Rodney's Fire Dragon seasonings and the techniques that work even on a boat. Part 3 is where it all comes together in the final cook. Sailing Into Nirvana. Cheers!
This week on SV CUBA, we sail from Guadeloupe and head for St. Martin, but our arrival almost turns into an absolute nightmare! 🤯 The passage itself was great, but pulling into the bay, we made a mistake: We accidentally GROUNDED THE BOAT. A stressful moment for any sailor! ⚓️ And just when we thought the drama was over, a WATERSPOUT formed right near us!🌪️ .... What else?! But it wasn't all chaos! After the danger passed, we meet up with our amazing friends, from EXPEDITION EVANS who just completed their atlantic crossing, and FINDING FREEDOM. Join them for some much-needed fun. We check out DAVID'S HOLE and try to navigate our way back to the boat at night. It doesn't take much to lose your boat. One slip with your paperwork, one crossed border, or one forgotten safety update could leave your vessel tied up at the dock with a government seizure notice. In this video, we break down 10 Innocent Mistakes that regular sailors make every day—mistakes that can get your boat seized by the Coast Guard, Customs, or local authorities. We cover: Paperwork Traps: Why a "handshake deal" title transfer is a ticking time bomb. The "Restricted Zone" Risk: How crossing an invisible line on a chart can get you detained. Border Crossing Failures: The dangerous reality of carrying "innocent" items into foreign waters. Insurance Gaps: Why operating without proof of coverage is more than just a fine. Emergency Gear Red Flags: How an expired EPIRB or mismatched MMSI can trigger a seizure. Don't let a simple error cost you your pride and joy. Know the rules before you leave the dock. ⏱️ CHAPTERS: 00:00 Intro: It Can Happen to Anyone 00:59 1. Unregistered or Improperly Transferred Ownership 02:00 2. First day toying with an rc sailboat. Model Playstem (or playsteam) Voyager 280. Very gusty afternoon, impossible to have even a single leg of a course. I'd say the ideal windspeed is about 5m/s or 9-10 knots Anyway really fun! For me this is the first time ever controlling any sail. Waterproofing the hatch is a must. I heard some people put closed cell foam inside. I just made a gasket out of a thin stripe of EVA foam sheet. It worked like a charm.
The Bahamas always seem endless… but are they? 🌴⛵ In this episode, our family of seven living aboard full-time continues island-hopping down the Bahamian chain, making the most of every stop as we work our way toward the Windward Passage and eventually back to Panama. We leave the crystal-clear anchorage of Rudder Cay, point the bows south, and make a festive holiday stop in Georgetown, Elizabeth Harbor — a familiar place filled with good memories, friendly faces, and that unmistakable cruising community vibe. But this season is different. The weather windows are calling, the calendar is moving, and before we know it, we’re raising anchor once again. As quickly as we arrived, we’re gone — chasing the next island, the next anchorage, and the next adventure. That leaves us wondering: How many islands are left in the Bahamas? How many more can we explore before it’s time to cross the Windward Passage? Which ones will we actually get to see, and which will have to wait for another season? This is the reality of life aboard — balancing curiosity with timing, savoring each stop while knowing you can’t see it all. Along the way, we’re continuing to learn our new catamaran, dial in passages, and keep things fun, safe, and memorable for our kids as we sail farther south. If you love family sailing, real cruising life, island hopping, and big-picture adventure, come along as we chase horizons and make the most of every mile. 👉 Subscribe to follow our journey south 👍 Like & comment — how many Bahamian islands do you think we’ll reach before we leave?

I leave the St. George River for Rockland and for a necessary re-provision. Though first I stop at the lovely island anchorage by Dix Island. After Rockland it is on to Pulpit Harbor, a frequent stop for the Camden schooner fleet. While preparing to negotiate the somewhat narrow entrance under sail, I am schooled in the procedure by a great schooner that sails in before me-- I mean, actually sails in. Like it was nothing at all. Sheesh. Most sailboats are not accidents. They are the result of a few brilliant minds who figured out how to turn wind into speed, safety, and beauty. In this video, we break down the four sailboat designers who shaped sailing as we know it — the men whose ideas still influence the boats we buy, sail, and argue about today. From classic wooden yachts to modern performance machines, these designers didn’t just draw boats… they changed the rules. We’ll cover: • Why these designers stand above the rest • How their design philosophies still affect modern boats • What their boats feel like on the water • What to look for as a buyer when you see their names in listings • Why so many “modern” sailboats are still copying their ideas Featured designers: • Nathanael G. Herreshoff • Olin Stephens (Sparkman & Stephens) • William Fife III • Bruce Farr If you’re shopping for a sailboat, dreaming about one, or just want to understand why some boats feel magical while others feel… confusing — this is one you don’t want to miss. In the Gulf of Baothnia, aboard the Swan 128 — the latest flagship of the Maxi line by Nautor Swan. A yacht of true substance, where scale meets intention. The hull, designed by German Frers, the coachroof by Lucio Micheletti, and the interiors by Misa Poggi, come together in a project that marks a clear step forward for the shipyard. Never before has Nautor Swan combined such volume with this level of performance.A hull conceived for long-range cruising, yet uncompromising in sailing efficiency. What makes the Swan 128 truly remarkable is its coherence: the yacht mirrors exactly what was envisioned in the renderings, computer models, and 3D simulations.A flush-deck design imagined as a single-level villa on the sea — defined by balance, light, and proportion. And this time, the vision became reality. @antoniovettese @nautorswan_official . #Swan128 #NautorSwan #MaxiYacht #LuxurySailing #SailingExcellence
Our final day in French Polynesia was one to remember. 🌴 We set out on a long hike through the jungle to some incredible waterfalls, soaking up every last bit of this amazing place before it was time to go. That evening we shared one final night onboard the catamaran, cooking dinner, watching the sunset, and reflecting on an unforgettable trip before returning the boat to the charter base. After traveling back to the USA, Chloe and I sit down to talk about what’s next. She won’t be in the upcoming series of videos — but this isn’t goodbye forever. There’s a chance you’ll see her again when we head to Thailand in February. Thanks for coming along on this journey. ❤️ The adventure is far from over. This channel is funded by viewers like you. Happy New Year, and welcome back to our mini-documentary series! 🎉 In Part 3, master boat-builder Alan Fuller takes us deep into the heart of Jinnie—the keel. Jinnie is an old oyster skiff we’re restoring with the hope of getting her back where she belongs: on the water. In this episode, Alan walks us through the condition of Jinnie’s original keel, revealing years of wear, damage, and hard use. We document the challenging process of dropping and removing the keel from the rest of the boat, and Alan explains exactly what a keel is, why it’s so critical to a vessel’s structure, and what happens when it fails. With the old keel badly worn, accurate measurements became a real struggle—but those measurements are essential. The new keel must be perfectly sized to fit the boat, and even small errors could cause major problems. Alan also shares insights into the wood selection for the new keel and the traditional methods he and the apprentices will use to build it. This is a process that demands patience, precision, and experience—truly a job of blood, sweat, and tears. If you’re interested in traditional boatbuilding, restoration, or the craftsmanship that keeps historic working boats alive, this episode is for you. 👉 Subscribe to follow Jinnie’s restoration journey and see the new keel come to life in the next chapter.

Anchoring in Squishy Bottoms: https://www.practical-sailor.com/sails-rigging-deckgear/anchoring-in-squishy-bottoms The MacGregor 26 might be the most controversial sailboat ever built. Half sailboat. Half powerboat. Water ballast. A 50-horsepower outboard. Capable of sailing… and towing a water skier. For decades, sailors have loved to hate it, dismissed it, mocked it, and argued about whether it should even exist. And yet, thousands of them are still out there. In this video, we take a deep dive into the MacGregor 26 to find out why it became one of the most polarizing boats in sailing history. We look at how it actually sails, how it performs under power, why its water ballast design makes traditional sailors uncomfortable, and what the boat gets right that almost everyone overlooks. Is the MacGregor 26 a terrible sailboat? A brilliant compromise? Or a misunderstood boat that solved problems most sailors don’t want to admit they have? By the end of this video, you may find yourself rethinking everything you thought you knew about this boat — and why, for the right owner, it might actually make more sense than many “real” sailboats. If you’ve ever argued about the MacGregor 26, rolled your eyes at one in a marina, or secretly wondered why so many people bought them, this video is for you. 🌊🎥
The 12th edition of the RORC Transatlantic Race got underway in near-perfect conditions off Marina Lanzarote, as the international fleet raced into the Atlantic framed by Lanzarote’s dramatic volcanic coastline. A steady northeasterly breeze of around 12–15 knots, clear skies and warm temperatures delivered an exceptional start, with spectator boats following the fleet to the mark off Puerto Calero Marina before the course opened south for the 3,000-nautical-mile crossing to Antigua. The IRC monohulls delivered a fiercely competitive opening, with Palanad 4 first across the line and Baltic 111 Raven quickly asserting herself on the water. In the multihull start, MOD70s Argo and Zoulou immediately locked horns, launching into the Atlantic at high speed. From foiling superyachts to two-handed campaigns and youth-led teams, the RORC Transatlantic Race once again brings together extraordinary diversity, ambition and adventure as the fleet heads west across one of the world’s great oceans. This video explains the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS Code): why it was introduced after 9/11, how ships and ports are protected today, and how maritime security works.
