We also have a close encounter with a sailboat and a fishing boat in thick fog.. a little to close for our comfort. The wind picks up as we get close to Europes most western point Cabo da Roca before we get a moment of nice and calm sailing as we enter rio Tejo the current gets strong and we have to enter the marina when it's at it's peak. After that we think we deserve a nice dinner at a nearby restaurant. We are a middle aged couple that has left our hectic business lives to go sailing with our boat Fridá af Wisby and our cat Litza. Our goal is not to go to a specific place but to reach a state of mind where we can really enjoy life. The sailing in our home water the Baltic Sea was part of our preparation to sail to the Mediterranean Sea. We sailed to Normandy France in the autumn 2020 and in spring 2021 we continued south along the Atlantic coast of Europe. Anders has been at the sea most of his life and sailed for the Swedish national dingy sailing team as a young man. Gitte has also grown up with boat and spent every summer sailing with her father as a teenager but made a pause of about 15 years without sailing as an adult, had just begun to pick-up the interest before she meet Anders a 4 years ago. Onboard we also have our cat Litza a 3 year old Devon Rex we call her the cattain because cats always decide over their humans. Litza is a Devon Rex cat and she is the real cattain aboard. Fridá af Wisby is a Wauquiez 47 pilot saloon that we Gitte and Anders bought in UK in 2019 and that we have sailed to Gotland and in season 1 2020 we sail in the Baltic Sea.

In Martinique i complete my first 30 videos in 30 days challange capturing moments of the process of adjusting to my new life on a sailboat. I am Roxana, I come from Romania and I am so happy to document this precious time of living on a boat. Like all of us, I hope to keep memories at heart of that what i deeply love: music, the sea, life and travel❤

After leaving Maine we sail down Long Island Sound and down the East River to New York City! We spend most of a week enjoying the Big Apple.

In this episode there is some big news and some big changes are afoot. We start out with a scuba dive at "the Pinnacle" in the Malolo island group. This sweet dive has thousands of schooling fish, a swim-through cave at the bottom, a curious shark, and we spot THREE elusive stonefish! We join Chris on Sea Glub for some sundowners, with Javi of the Patches crew. The weather is fine, so Kevin heads up the mast to fix a couple of things, including a spinning sleeve that's part of the wind instrument. Josh wasn't here to enjoy a Fiji hamburger, so we send him a picture and try out a hamburger with a fried egg on it. Mexican Independence Day happened to coincide with us being around the Mexican crew of SV Patches, so we put together a Mexican party at Musket Cove's Island Bar, and we try Kava for the first time. Thanks Koroi for facilitating this! Here's the news. Given that the next closest destinations are still closed due to COVID border restrictions, Rob decides to cancel the continuation of the circumnavigation for this year, and haul out the boat for cyclone season. So we do one final sail back to Port Denarau and spend a couple of days preparing boat by taking down all the sails, servicing the dinghy, removing canvas and the flexible plexiglass windows. As Rob, Emilio and Valentin bring the boat a short hop over to Vuda marina for haul out and for their flights back to North America, we stay on in Port Denarau for a few more days. We play foosball and pool at the little yacht club, explore on foot, and hang out with Christina (formerly of SV Islander, who we met in Tahiti) and pick up some fresh sourdough bread from the Yeasty Boys! Unser Segelboot Squib, ein Catalac 9M, ist in die Jahre gekommen, die Verkleidung hängt teilweise von der Decke, die Farbe blättert ab, die Elektrik auf dem Stand des vorigen Jahrtausends,..... Ein Refit steht an. Doch Broterwerb und Verpflichtungen lassen es nicht zu, monatelang in Griechenland am Boot zu arbeiten. Da wird schon 2018 die Idee geboren Squib nach Wien zu bringen, wo man jederzeit Zugang hat, der Einkauf von Material in der Muttersprache abgewickelt werden kann und alles andere seinen gewohnten Verlauf nimmt. Bereits 2018 starteten wir Richtung Wien, doch ein Motorschaden in der Straße von Messina zwang uns, den Überstellungstörn abzubrechen. Am vierten September kamen wir in Wien an, 980 Seemeilen und 2120 km über die europäischen Wasserstraßen lagen hinter uns. Seitdem liegt Squib in der Wiener Kuchelau, der Refit hat bereits begonnen. We are sailing in Croatia and living on our sailboat during 2021. We recently embark on a journey to visit the jewel of Adriatic, Dubrovnik as well as two of Croatian finests national parks. Island of Lastovo and Island of Mljet. Along the way we encounter some charter boats behaving badly exhibiting poor seamanship and humanship skills. Also in this episode we encounter WW2 and Yugoslav war ruins opposing the beauty of nature this special place offers. We share some beautiful anchorages, marinas, unspoiled islands, great sites, and expenses as we sail. We recently quit our high-tech jobs in California, bought a sailboat, and moved to the Mediterranean. We are just starting our adventure of sailing around the world and experiencing life on a sailboat. In this sailing vlog 2021, we will share our experiences as a sailing couple on YouTube who spends our first year sailing extensively throughout the Croatian coast. We will document our experiences, travel discoveries, and costs throughout our sailing journey. Croatia offers some of the best sailings in the Mediterranean and Europe. This is the story of the building of a Jay Benford designed, 31.8ft, junk schooner-rigged cruising sailboat.
