Dirty Bottom Ep70 On Sailing Intermission this time, we see a little nature at a nearby park. After three months in the water, we decided to have the bottom of the boat cleaned by a diver. To our surprise the zinc on the max propeller had almost completely eroded away. This prompted an over three-hour journey to purchase a galvanic isolator. Hopefully, now Isabella’s bottom will stay cleaner longer and the zincs will be longer lasting. We built our daggerboard cases from scratch, but was it worth the extra trouble? https://us.ecoflow.com/?aff=253 Get your own portable power station from EcoFlow - the fastest charging on the market. #solargenerator #ecoflow # Well, the daggerboard cases have now been fully glassed and are ready to go into the boat. But, considering we could have had these molded from Max Cruise and shipped with the other components, was it worth going through the trouble of building them ourselves? In this last 'daggerboard build' series, we wrap our last bits of glass around the cases, sealing in the foam core. But unlike when we made the halves, this was all hand rolled instead of vacuum bagged. A much more laborious process, which has left us totally drained. It was a learning experience for sure - and now we can say we built a major part of the boat from scratch. Watch the full episode to see if we thought it was worth the extra time and effort. There are lots of fun things to do while Exploring Cat Island. Starting with catching four Mahi-mahi on the way over. Have you ever summited the highest peak in a country before? We now have. The Hermitage monastery was built in 1934 on the highest peak on Cat Island. In fact, it’s the highest peak in the entire Bahamas topping out at a whopping 206 feet high. We find a beautiful beach at Fountain Bay resort, do some yoga, pet some chickens, and search for bats. We get massages on a beach and a duber (that’s a dinghy Uber) over to dinner at Fernandez Bay Beach Resort. Thanks for all of the great music from Carolyn Wonderand and from Eddie Wright and of course from Damon Fowler. Thanks for watching and please don’t forget to subscribe and hit the notification bell so you get updates on when we post new videos. 🥰😍

Conch salads are DELICIOUS, but intimidating to make because to start, you have to figure out how to get the conch out of its shell; the conch is a giant muscle using it's full power to stay connected to its home. Well, look no further than this video. Fatty shows you how to get the conch out of the shell, what ingredients to add to the salad, and the three kinds of conch salads. And, Fatty does it in a way that is fun, informative, and makes you smile! #sailing #sailboat #sailingprojects #CONCHSALAD #CONCH #FATTY NEW TO OUR CHANNEL? We are Eileen and Brown Councill. Welcome to our channel and a glimpse into our life adventure! 2020 was a year of uncertainty and change (for all of us, right?), but we overcame the challenges and decided it was time to chase our dream, to sail around the world! Did I mention that we had very NO sailing experience? Before leaving Qingdao, China, our home of 4 years, we sold almost all of our earthly possessions and started our international search to find the right sailboat that we would call "home." After 5 months of unanticipated twists and turns, we found what we were looking for, a used Leopard 44' Catamaran located in St. Lucia. So, here begins our journey, filled with unmatched excitement and honestly, a bit of trepidation as well. We have much to learn as we travel the world on our floating home and we intend to document that journey and share it with you. We are so glad you have decided to join us, and we hope that you will find our story so compelling that it will inspire you to chase your dreams too! Georgetown is a major cruiser hub at the bottom of the Exumas. Stop at beautiful Emerald Bay Marina along the way. Everyone hits the famous Chat n Chill beach bar, but while you're there grab a conch salad from Ronaldo just down the beach. He puts on a great show while he makes it for you, and you can feed the stingrays right there. The best feature about Georgetown is hardly ever discussed. One of the most beautiful ocean beaches anywhere. There are so many shades of blue between the sea and sky that the camera simply cannot do it justice. David Copperfield's Rudder Cut Cay has some pretty cool stuff to check out. Caves, shallows full of life, with the chillest turtles and The Musician. David Copperfield commissioned this grand piano with an attentive mermaid, to drop in an undisclosed location for his guests to enjoy. The location has long since been disclosed and this beautiful structure is well worth a visit. Take a deep breath! While the opening day of the 44Cup Cascais saw the rare occurrence of one boat - Nico Poons' Charisma - winning all three races, on day two it was back to the 44Cup ‘norm’ with lead changes and three different winners. Charisma performed consistently enough to maintain her lead at the half way stage, with a four point advantage over Igor Lah's Ceeref powered by Hrastnik 1860, today's overall winner - despite an 11th hour tactician change with British two time 470 World Champion Nic Asher flying in this morning to stand in on tactics for Adrian Stead.

Given its our life and company motto, to be here for a good time and create memories, we were sure to squeeze in a bit of fun along the way!

Why don't I want my Mom to skip this one? It starts out innocently enough with a bonfire in the new spot we sailed to last time - A gorgeous beach in the beautiful San Blas Islands, Panama. We're here with friends on Delos and Plucky of Sailing into Freedom, plus Andi & Charli. We've got a great group of friends, a great anchorage and nothing but beauty, all around us. What could go wrong? First we eye a pretty beach across from the anchorage that we skipped last time when we explored the Sand Bar. Before we can check it out Bill goes on a spear fishing mission with the male buddies of our group with Plukky leading - He catches lots of huge fish and knows where they are hiding. The guys find some incredible sea life but move on to a spot called the Washing Machine. They navigate huge waves and decide to return for a proper dive again but with scuba gear. Once back we hit that pretty beach only to discover crocodile tracks in the sand, followed by an actual day time sighting of him swimming around near the beach, shocking to see in broad day light. We leave the beach for a better hang out spot and let the croc have his space. After a lovely day at the beach with friends and another bonfire followed by a glorious sunset, Bill heads out the next day for the scuba dive. The boys dive a deep cave with multiple caverns, dark but calm once inside and out of the giant crashing waves at it's entrance. Everything is going fine until Brian & Bill inadvertently corner a massive grouper in a tight spot. It's pitch black and the giant fish expels itself out of its hiding spot with gusto threatening to knock the guys. Luckily he misses and alls well that ends well. The exciting day ends appropriately with an equally exciting nighttime adventure: Searching for that croc!! We get more than we bargained for when Plukky decides to enter the water for the perfect GoPro shot - but he falls not once but TWICE and for a few minutes no one's got eyes on the croc!!! We continue east to Antigua. This island is home to the Black Pineapple and we have been wondering what it tastes like since we read about it before we departed South-Africa. We spend Easter weekend trying to fix our dying outboard and find some interesting stuff in the water. Like us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/Sailing-Avan... With my first sailing season over and after a pretty rubbish winter, I use a break in the weather to check Mochyn Du over.

A Vendredi

Preparing to live on a sailboat full time

svcuba
8,376 Views · 4 years ago

Tag along as the temperatures rise and the crew decides to ditch SV CUBA for the day to escape the heat. We are on the hunt for a special place in Kalamaris, home to wetland creatures and amphibians. If you like to be part of our journey, please consider becoming a Patreon @ https://www.patreon.com/svcuba We are still sailing Greece and have now arrived and anchored in Pylos. Today we prepare ourselves to skip boat life and go for a land adventure instead. When you are living on a sailboat sometimes you just want to stretch your legs and we have now been sailing the Greek Islands almost non-stop for the past few weeks. Just island hopping and cruising where the wind takes us. Though we tend to move around a lot on the boat while we are at sea, sometimes we are looking for a change of scenery and while being at anchor it is nice to take some time to explore the new surroundings by foot. We take a dinghy ride across the bay, tie up on the town quay, and to Enrique’s delight, we accidentally walk right into the town’s street food districts. So, we start off with some cool treats before leaving Gialova, for the 8 km hike into the hillside. It’s the peak of the summer and the town center is not the only place to find treats and soon our hike turns into a treasure hunt. We are on a mission to “rescue” more goodies along the way. Heavily loaded we finally make the last stretch of the hike through some thick greenery as we catch a first glimpse of the reason, we walked for 3 hours. The narrow path that leads to this breath-taking place opens up a view of the waterfall that could have derived right out of one of Bob Ross’ paintings. If you are looking to visit Kalamaris Waterfall, you can get there from the village of Gialova by car or by foot following the signs for Kalamaris waterfall. After around a kilometer you should take a turn to the right to enter a dirt road. The sign for the waterfall will however only be written in Greek from here onwards. The path will take you through orchards covering the bottom of the valley until you see a sign indicating a car park. You will find a small area that allows a few cars to park between the olive trees. From here you will have to leave your car behind and follow a narrow path that merges into the thick jungle-like greenery for about 15 minutes until you will find some wooden steps that lead up to the waterfall. You will find a small pool with refreshing water and the rock right in front of the waterfall will make a great photo spot. Usually, this waterfall is not very crowded and it is a fantastic place for the whole family to spend the day away from direct sunshine and the relentless heat. If you like to receive more information about this place or Pylos in general, please just leave us a comment 😊 We are Enrique (Kiki) from Cuba and Sarah (Salsa) from Germany, a sailing couple. We are living on a boat, our tiny house, creating a travel vlog as we sail around the world. We have almost zero sailing experience, but are determined to circumnavigate & share our adventures with you. We are by no means film makers or video editors so please let us know what you think about our videos, what you like to see more of - or less ;-) Sailing life can be a real challenge and a bit scary at times (especially when your home dangles from an iron thread just 10 mm thick). What is to come? We don't know but day by day we are learning how to live more sustainable, living off grid, more connected to nature, so we can share our adventures with you. Come storm or good weather. Please don't forget to subscribe, give us a thumbs up and hit the notification bell to know when our next video is up. Log 31 | After getting a bit too comfortable in Georgetown, we decided to hoist our sails in search of new destinations with a bit more.. remoteness. We've been buddy sailing with our friends Brandon and Karlie and their adorable dog, Ayla for more than a month now, and we continue to find ourselves on some awesome adventures, and possibly also having a bit too much fun from time to time. After many fish-less passages, we were starting to think there really were no fish left in the sea. That was until our most recent offshore sail! Don't miss this log to find out if we finally get lucky in the fishing department, or are yet again left staring down at an empty freezer... We had some good news and bad news this week and we have a special announcement to make! (Watch to find out!) This week we want to say an extra special thank you to André for sending Timo a new phone (after Timo destroyed his old one). And to Jason at Diverse Rigging & Yachting https://diverserigging.com.au/ for the dog bones that we need for the running back stays for the new forestay we want to make. As well as to our new friends Dan and Jilly from SY Dazzler that brought us the bar for our mast, you can follow them at https://dazzlerswatch.com/ And thanks to David Hartman Photography https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCnNINujJzPy6qCWBj5q9piQ for the nice video clip of the bow of NV gliding through the water with the dolphins. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you enjoyed this video please consider supporting us on Patreon https://www.patreon.com/SailingNV or with a one-off donation via https://ko-fi.com/sailingnv or paypal https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/sailingnv -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Caio! We are Timo and Jo, an Italian and English couple with countless ocean miles under our belts, including sailing half way around the world from Europe to Fiji! Last year we bought an Open 66 ft race sailing boat originally designed and built by the famous Hungarian sailor Nándor Fa, which he raced in the 1990 Around Alone & 1992 Vendée Globe (round the world single handed race known as “the Everest of the seas”), becoming the first non-frenchman to finish the race. We are currently in Fiji giving this old gladiator a new lease on life, transforming her from an ex race boat to a performance family cruiser, which we'll need to make both dog and baby proof! We’re planning to set sail again in Oct 2022, so with limited time&money we have plenty of challenges ahead to turn our dreams into reality&get back on the water! Subscribe to our channel&track our progress as we release videos about our journey as well as "how to" videos about anything boat related. Never stop to dream, never stop to sail! You can find out more about the boat, us and our refit plans on our website www.sailingnv.com or follow us on Facebook https://m.facebook.com/sailingyachtnv and Instagram https://www.instagram.com/sailingnv/

Our Christmas plans were revealed after a year of planning! The stress of coordinating our movements around a secret almost killed me! We were all so excited for the kids to finally find out. Grammy and Grampy reveal to the grandkids they are going to Disney World for Christmas. This isn't the first surprise the kids have been lucky to receive from them. Not only is it a fun way to get the experience kicked off right, it's also super practical when we're dealing with kids and expectations. The adults involved were going stir crazy with excitement, so could you imagine what the kids would be like leading up to this? We'll get back to sailing in a few more videos. I really wanted to give this special event the gravitas it deserved for our family The kids cherish their other videos like this one. I'm so grateful they have these magical memories that they'll be able to tell their kids about.
