Even though extreme heat had thwarted my attempts to get back into the forward bunk for more coats of paint, we were able to make steps forward in the engine bed. Using a 6 pound density foam from Total Boat, Matt and I were able to fill all the hollow spaces of the stringers, to make the area structurally sound before the engine mounts and eventually engines go in. Parmi eux, l’incroyable Compass Cay nous a fait les yeux doux ! Le ciel veut il se distinguer de la mer pour être de ce bleu si pur ? De l’autre côté de la bande sablo-rocheuse, l’océan, lui, tire plus sur un mélange smalt-lapis-lazuli. Subtilement, par un étroit goulet, il vient se mêler au panache aigue-marine d’un éblouissant bassin, et tous deux, par une habile fusion, s’étendent en serpentant, vers un dédale de mangroves aux prunelles Tiffany. Jamais nous n’avons vu, mangroves si cristallines ! Les ligneux s’entrelacent en procurant un abri vital à toute une faune essentielle. Pourquoi avoir autorisé la construction d’une marina de luxe, juste ici ! Le parc marin se prolonge à tous l’archipel, les Rocky Dondas Caves en font partie. Se sont d’autres grottes que l’on aime imaginer repaires, à l’ère des pirates. De nos jours, le refuge est plutôt celui des poissons. Il y en a de toutes les couleurs et toutes les formes. Comme ces superbes raies aigles. Ces poissons cartilagineux, plus connues sous le nom de raie léopard pour leur peau tachetée. Elles sont si gracieuses ! En faisant des recherches sur l’origine d’avions écrasés et engloutis dans les eaux Bahamiennes, je suis tombée sur un sujet fort intéressant : le triangle des Bermudes. On a tous entendu parler un jour ou l’autre de cette mystérieuse zone géographique de l’océan Atlantique. Mais saviez-vous que les Bahamas y sont englobées ? Selon une croyance rependue, la région maritime triangulaire aurait été le théâtre d’un grand nombre de disparitions de navires et d’aéronefs. Coïncidences, paranormal, surnaturel, effets magnétiques, tempêtes… Les théories explicatives ne manquent pas, mais tout ça m’a fait dévier de mes prospections initiales : Qu’est-il arrivé à ces petits coucous ? Pour certains l’énigme reste totale, en revanche, plusieurs articles m’ont permis d’en savoir plus sur le Curtiss C-46A submergé à Norman’s Cay, que mon capitaine ne perd pas une seconde à aller explorer ! Il aurait appartenu à Carlos Ledher, cofondateur du cartel de Medellin et par la même occasion à Pablo Escobar, et se serait écrasé une nuit où la visibilité était nulle. Du moins c’est les informations les moins controversées qui en ressortent. Si ces deux trafiquants, barons de la drogue ont été des criminels avérés, il est d’autant plus vrai qu’ils avaient le goût des belles choses. La preuve en est, le choix de Norman’s Cay comme étape de transbordement de marchandises, entre les États-Unis et la Colombie. Nach fast fast drei Jahren in Griechenland haben wir das Mittelmeer durchquert und nach den Azoren, Madeira und den Kanaren 2020 den Atlantik überquert. In der Karibik sind wir gleich zu Beginn in die „Corona-Falle“ gelaufen, die den weiteren Verlauf unserer Reise maßgeblich beeinflusst hat. Nach jeweils fünf Monaten auf Martinique und Bonaire sind wir schließlich auf Kuba gelandet. Zeitgleich mit unserer Abreise aus Griechenland haben wir 2018 unseren YouTube-Kanal „ANNAMERA SAILING“ gegründet, in dem wir Euch mit unseren Segel-Dokus auf dem Laufenden halten. Dabei sind uns Landausflüge genauso wichtig wie Segeln und wir versuchen, das Beste aus beiden Welten für andere nachvollziehbar darzustellen. Durch die aufwendige Art der Editierung können unsere Videos nur etwa im monatlichen Abstand erscheinen. Boat life in Miami was a lot of things. Busy, still, quiet, loud. It was fun, and a place we called home for much longer than expected. Katy and I knew that making this last push to get ready for the Bahamas was going to be tough. We also knew that doing it with company would make it easier. Finally, we reunited with trio, our dear friends who we hadn't seen since Annapolis! It was such a breath of fresh air. After a few days of catching up and exploring part of South Miami, we got into some boat projects. The elusive weather window was beginning to become our biggest hurdle to jump over before our international fun began. Our last days cruising in the amazing San Blas Islands will prove to be THE best yet! Two months behind us in this pristine cruising ground has meant beautiful anchorages with good holding and protection, white sand and turquoise water for days and palm trees swaying in the breeze. We would stay forever but as sailors we’ve got a long road of travel ahead of us and our time is simply out. Our friend Plukky keeps catching fish on the regular and today is no exception - He comes by Calico Skies with his daily catch, this time several fish. We make plans for a bonfire this evening before spending some time on Delos with the dome and good wifi. Next we head out for what could be our last dive and it turns out to be spectacular. Conditions are perfect and we spot a sting ray, angel fish, blue tangs, parrot fish, two puffer fish a trunk fish, a bunch of squid AND a nurse shark. It will be the best way to remember the underwater world of San Blas and we’re leaving our hearts amongst the coral and reef fish that live here. After our dive we gather for our last bonfire. Tonight Plukky has gone all out and is making fried fish fingers served with a garlic aioli sauce. Kazza has made stick bread which we roast by the fire. Its a true feast, our fav meal in the San Blas and the best fried fish Grace has ever tasted. We share laughs and the time whizzes by as we enjoy sunset together. The next day we make dough for pizza night which we hold later on Avalon, our friends Andi & Charli’s huge performance Catamaran. Brian, Kazza, nugget & Plukky also join and we all pitch in to make fun cocktails and lots of pies. Its another festive and fun evening together and our last with this particular group. The following morning brings an unexpected surprise when Andy sails over on Avalon and Bill jumps on for a burn. Powered up the beast of a boat races at 12 knots through clear water and the new screecher is a sight to behold. On our sail to St Lucia a sudden strong current caused us to make almost no headway. Motor sailing had us at least moving in the right direction but is was a slow effort. Once we made it, we met a South-African couple living on the island and they invite us on a hike with a local expat hiking group.
