TrawlerFest was hosted at the beautiful Cap Sante Marina and took place from May 17th - May 21st. The weather was fantastic, the seminars were exciting, and the energy was contagious. With attendees and some boats from all over the world, this show felt like we were back in the swing of things. After the last TrawlerFest in Stuart, we hoped for more boats at the next event, and as expected, Anacortes delivered. There were over 100 new and used brokerage boats on display, giving attendees the opportunity to step aboard and check out the different styles and layouts on these cruisers. There was a wide selection, from the Cutwaters and Ranger Tugs, some vintage like the Eagle 32 and new like the Nordic Tugs 40 and Apollonian 52. On the larger scale two incredible yachts -the Northern Marine 57 and Fleming 65. After finishing at the bottom of the raking on day one, Frédéric Jousset's golden hulled TF35, Team SAIL FEAVER, helmed by Frenchman Loïck Peyron, turned their fortunes around on the second day of the Realstone Cup for Léman hope taking place this weekend in Nyon. After three very different races, Finland’s Oskari Muhonen has taken the lead at the 2022 Finn Gold Cup at Fraglia Vela Malcesine on Lake Garda Italy. He won two more races to take a three point lead from Pieter-Jan Postma, from The Netherlands. Austria’s Florian Raudaschl won the second race and moves up to third overall. Four races remain. There are not many people more experienced in the America’s Cup world of foil design than Nat Shaver. A new recruit for INEOS Britannia’s 37th America’s Cup campaign, Nat brings with him a huge amount experience from five previous Cup campaigns. The team, which will be called, GUYOT environment - Team Europe, will be sailing on Benjamin’s IMOCA. If it looks familiar it might be because it used to be 11th Hour Racing's Alaka’i, which featured in last year’s The Ocean Race Europe. Lake Geneva presented a challenging third day of racing for the T F 35 as the light-to-no wind forecast eventually rewarded the patience of the teams, and perseverance of the race committee with one successful race. It's time to fix our rudder and we've been researching different repair methods since we dropped the rudder a few months ago. The Rudder on our 43 Oceanis is a spade rudder that has a stainless steel framework throughout. I was happy to find this out as we’ve encountered another broken rudder repair on the yard that had no framework and just a post running down through the rudder. When that bond fails between the post and the rudder the post can constantly spin inside the rudder causing the rudder not to move or respond to turning the helm or tiller. When wicked was beached in a Hurricane the bottom part of the rudder broke of a had a crack that ran vertically up the side. The foam inside was exposed to ocean water and the layers of glass were delaminated. Sitting in the water for 3 years after incident didn’t help. The damage and delimitation got worse and sea life made a home inside of the rudder. ***************** After months of "couch sailing" on YouTube we decided it was time to stop dreaming and dream and start living it. Brit has wanted to sail and own boat for many years but it was always something that didn't seem it could possible for us. Until we stumbled across countless and I mean countless YouTube Channels like, La Vagabonde, Beau & Brandy, Sailing Uma, SV Delos, Parlay Revival, Tula's Endless Summer, Odd Life Crafting, Expedition Evans and the list goes on. We can only hope to inspire one person to chase their dreams as they have inspired us to. After what seemed like a long search for a sailboat we learned about hurricane damaged boats for auction down in the Caribbean. We came across a listing for a 43 Beneteau Oceanis that was currently being auctioned. We put in our bid and got out bid a few times before finally winning in the end. We had a short window to get from California to St. Thomas USVI to secure our purchase. Now the fun begins! It is time to refit this hurricane damaged sailboat make her our own. Thanks for watching! Nauerna – Helgoland Distance in 27 Hours: 200 miles Departure: 26 mei 2022 – 09.00 o’clock Weather: sunny Wind: ZW to NW 14 – 40 kts It is Ascension Day when we leave, so the Nauerna bridge does not turn until 9am. We had wanted to leave earlier to have slightly less strong wind on expected arrival Helgoland. So be it. We set off for a tough sail. At 10.45 we are in front of the IJmuiden lock, after a short wait in and behind it, of course just when we had stowed all lines and fenders, we are requested to go ashore for inspection by the police. This went smoothly and pleasantly, by the way, and actually nice to have all documents in the folder in order 😉 Out to sea and on a fair wind all sails up we sailed smoothly (averaging 9-10 kts) towards the mudflats. The wind is SW and fluctuates around 14-20 kts. Waves are around 1-1.5 metres and it is all pleasant. Patty does experience slight physical complaints by then: Headaches and muscle aches in particular. This also manifests itself during the trip in light fever, shivering and 3 x spitting up. So be it. Around 17.00 we round Texel and ahead of the wind, which increases to above 20 kts. We decide to continue only on jib. When we haul in the sails, we experience a moment of adrenaline when the bazaan sheet breaks loose. We notice this in time and quickly fix it. We then continue into the night with speeds now around 6.6-7 kts). We start the watch changes and each sleep in our own beds at 3 o’clock. Robin experiences a beautiful sunset, albeit with a fixe shower as well. That, in turn, gave him beautiful pictures. During the night, the wind picked up and we decide at the watch change in the morning to see if we can still make it to Nordeney. That is around 35 miles off Helgoland. We adjust the course, but because the waves and wind on arrival are too high and bad on the approach route, we don’t dare and set course for Helgoland again. The WJ handles the high waves and wind incredibly well. We roll nicely, but feel safe. Patty does get lousier, but Robin, who had the last sleep, is fit and steers her safely over both systems. On arrival in Helgoland, we sail in with NW ‘gusts’ around 40 kts. Just in time, in other words. We are directed to the high North Quay on the wall by the ladder to moor. It’s low tide, sosssssss…….. quite a high side with semi-offshore wind. Fortunately, we get help ashore and thanks to the ‘Keesjes throwing’ (some may not know what that is, so feel free to send your question in the comments ;-)) of the neighbour (an instructor’s boat), we get the WJ moored…..but….we made it After catching up (and aspirins for Patty), we eat a ping meal, tidy up the ship, because….. a couple of cupboards didn’t quite make it after all 😉 and after a shower, some catching up and apping with friends and family, we hit the bunk at 20:30. #helgoland #bumpyride #musto

The penultimate day of the GC32 Riva Cup, the opening event of the 2022 GC32 Racing Tour was a long one with an 0600 alarm for an 0800 start to make the most of Garda’s Pelèr wind. Two races were held before the northerly dissolved and the fleet was sent ashore to await the Ora to establish. This it did and at 1300 racing resumed in a highly variable southerly, occasionally gusting into the 20s and shifting up to 30°. Tomorrow will be the final day of racing with a first warning signal planned for 1200 CEST.

We have crossed the border to cruise the rugged and beautiful outside coast of Mexico's Baja Penninsula. From the large city of Ensenada, to the extremely remote Islas San Benito we found many stunning vistas, rich wildlife, and excellent sailing. A perfect weather window allowed us to make the last leg into Cabo San Lucas in one long sail from the little village of Abreojos. An ocean passage that began in the frigid waters of San Diego ended in the bathwater warm tropics of the entrance to the Sea of Cortez. Julia is a traditional wooden boat. She was built of cedar, fir, and oak in Desolation Sound in 1960 to Atkin's Ingrid design. She is out to prove that classic yachts are well suited to bluewater cruising, and to have lots of excellent sailing along the way!
