We investigate the decision behind creating Lake Gatun, the immense proportions of the damn that holds back the Chagres River, and the incredibly challenge of the Culebra Cut which claimed the lives of so many. Na een geweldige tijd in Mindelo op de Kaapverdische eilanden, vertrekken we voor de oversteek naar Frans Guyana. Heel ruig is het weer op de oceaan niet, maar toch komt er een scheur in de gennaker. Onderweg plakken we de gaten en kunnen we er weer mee zeilen. Patrick gooit een vislijn uit en na enige tijd vangen we een grote Mahi Mahi waar we prima van eten (ja, ik ook!). Niet alleen vangen we deze vis, ook vinden we elke morgen vliegende vissen aan dek, die bij vergissing aan boord zijn geland. Jarenlang heb ik ervan gedroomd om zeilend te gaan waar de wind me brengt. In 2020 was het dan eindelijk zover en heb ik samen met Felia een prachtige reis gemaakt naar Scandinavië en de Baltische staten. Onze Eva, een Atlantic 43 uit 2007, is een aluminium zeiljacht met hefkiel en gebouwd en uitgerust voor reizen naar plaatsen die net achter de horizon liggen. Vanaf 2021 vaar ik met wisselende bemanning zuidwaarts. Ik vind het leuk om onze avonturen met jullie te delen. Thursday June 16th. The breeze was on after a lay day on Wednesday with three races completed. Video made possible by CBYRA Chesapeake Bay Yacht Racing Association.

In this video we took our boat back to her old marina.. in fact the berth next door to where she was kept. We were attending a #Moody owners meeting which was being held there and had arranged to meet up with her previous owners. All was going to plan until half way through the meeting when Charlie suddenly became sick and was continually sick for the rest of the trip. This was very unfortunate as I had planned a lovely meal and we had a sail on our friends new boat. Unfortunately, Charlie couldn't do either of these things as she was bed ridden for the weekend. One silver lining for me was I got to sail her back single handedly which I had wanted to do for a while and even made Charlie stand and watch whilst I tied her up through the lock and in our dock! Due to the sickness we didn't get much filming done over these days and Charlie wasn't really up to me pointing a camera in her face or down the toilet! We shall have to return to do it all again!
