The inside route is shorter, but is infested with floating logs, current gates, and nasty standing waves. HOW BAD CAN IT BE rounding the famous Cape Horn of the Caribbean? BE FREE IS SAILING AGAIN, continuing the 1300 nautical miles nonstop solo from Martinique to Panama. This is part 2 of the long jump through the entire Caribbean east to west testing out the famous rough part of this route - THE FAMOUS CAPE OF THE SOUTHWEST CARIBBEAN To me, this is the grand rehearsal before my solo sailing across the Pacific in the near future. In this episode, I share the reason why this part of the Caribbean should not be ignored as a dangerous place to sail. It's normal to see winds above 40 kts and strong colliding ocean currents combined with fall winds from the mountains of Colombia make rip tidal breaking waves. This region of the Caribbean is not a joke. Well knowing about this I sailed straight into this region on purpose to document what you can expect, as so many sailors I have met are totally unprepared for what they could face here. Hopefully, this episode can create some awareness and prepare more sailors, making sure the boat and equipment not to forget the crew are ready and can handle it. I'm used to heavy weather sailing and kind of enjoy it, but if you don't enjoy 40+ kts of wind and 3-4 meter breaking waves make sure to have a really good weather window from Aruba to Barranquilla (Columbia). Nach mehr als zwei Wochen Törn nach- und rund um Rügen setzten wir nach einer entspannten Nacht im Hafen von Kloster auf Hiddensee die Segel. Nach dem Frühstück heißt es also "Leinen los" und wir navigieren durch das nördliche Fahrwasser zwischen Hiddensee und Rügen in Richtung freie Ostsee. Bis zum Darßer Ort spielt das Wetter mit und wir haben nahezu traumhafte Bedingungen um zu Segeln. Beim Passieren der Landzunge wird die Strömung spürbar, und wir bekommen bis zu zwei Knoten mehr Geschwindigkeit auf die Logge als üblich. Nur praktisch könnte man meinen, doch leider entstehen am Darßer Ort durch seine berüchtigten Untiefen einige Grundseen, welche das Schiff auf und ab schaukeln lassen. Nach einem wunderschönen Sonnenuntergang bleibt es, mit gleichen Bedingungen, recht entspannt, doch gegen Mitternacht ist (fast) die ganze Crew wach, nachdem die Bilgenbretter durch von unten kommendes Wasser anfangen aufzuschwimmen... Wie es dazu kam, und wie wir das Problem gelöst haben? Das haben wir in diesem Video dokumentiert. The strong low pressure system in the North Atlantic near Iceland which is hitting the fleet still racing on the Vendée Arctique Les Sables d’Olonne has proven to be more dangerous than first forecast. But the increasing threat from the low pressure precipitated the organisation’s decision this evening. A constant detailed analysis of all of the weather models and the weather phenomena in the area affecting the 20 solo skippers still racing, finally made the decision obvious, considering the need to allow the solo racers to remove themselves from the worst threat as soon as possible, either by taking shelter or sailing away from the worst of the winds.

Es kann Los gehen Richtung Süden Kroatiens. In Split bekam ich Besuch von einem netten Pärchen die ich auf Mali Losinj in #kroatien kennengelernt habe. Sie sind mit ihren Camper einige Wochen unterwegs und träumen, eines Tages auch Mal die Welt mit dem #Boot zu erkunden. So fuhren sie 2 Tage von Split bis in die Inselwelten Rund um Brac und Hvar mit und traten dann die Rückreise nach Split mit der Fährverbindung von Hvar an.
