Do you want to know how we transited the Kiel Canal from East to West? Some of our preparation & inspiration was drawn out from the episode "How to lock-in at the Kiel Canal" of Sailors & Seadogs here: https://youtu.be/qoDUSZSWDDc In this Part 1 of our transit through the east lock near Kiel we make an overnight stop in the rain on the Eider River which veers off the canal towards Rendsburg at a little dock just across from the Eider Marina. We enjoyed this first part of our transit and didn't experience any challenges too difficult for us. (The sailboat in front of us lost a few fenders in the process, however ;) ) We sailed back and forth for about an hour & a half and ended up being nearest to the lock entrance just before the white continuous light turned from red, giving us the go-ahead to venture in. So, we got a place on the wall/dock. However, since all pleasure vessels had to tie on to the left side, we had 2 similar-sized yachts tie on to our yacht. A first for us. Met pijn in ons hart nemen we afscheid van Suriname. We checken uit, doen de laatste inkopen, nemen afscheid van het team van Marina Resort Domburg en dan gooien we de lijnen los en zeilen de Suriname rivier af. Samen met de Heron zetten we op de oceaan koers naar Tobago, waar we aan voorbij varen. Na een ruige rit met veel golven, stroming en ook best wat wind leggen we na 3 dagen en 6 uur zeilen aan een ankerboei bij Saint George's op Grenada aan. Jarenlang heb ik ervan gedroomd om zeilend te gaan waar de wind me brengt. In 2020 was het dan eindelijk zover en heb ik samen met Felia een prachtige reis gemaakt naar Scandinavië en de Baltische staten. Onze Eva, een Atlantic 43 uit 2007, is een aluminium zeiljacht met hefkiel en gebouwd en uitgerust voor reizen naar plaatsen die net achter de horizon liggen. Vanaf 2021 vaar ik met wisselende bemanning zuidwaarts. Ik vind het leuk om onze avonturen met jullie te delen. This video continues the Turkish sailing adventure onboard Luna, our 2022 "bareboat" sailing charter from @E.G.G. Yachting with@Sailing MacMac. Zacc flies in from Dublin for a few days sailing before we head north to the Datca Peninsula and encounter 26-31 knot winds with a triple reef in. Also on scene to witness a HUGE fire on the peninsula and observe the fire fighting flying crews "up close and personal"

This episode we drive over to Pine Harbor and stay a couple of nights at a hotel while we sort out moving items onto our new home "Thistle." We sail her across from Pine Harbor in average weather as it looked to be the only weather window for about a week or so. Rob (the previous owner) sailed with us to help us remember all her systems and assist with orienteering ourselves to the new vessel. Soren was skipper and did a stealer job not to sink our new home on the first sailing experience!

** NOW SOLD ** Sagres III is a Beneteau Oceanis 50. The Oceanis 50 is a large, comfortable cruising yacht. She is designed to be easily handled by two while giving enough space to accommodate large groups with ocean crossing capability.
