Join us on our worst sail ever as we set sail from Menorca to Sardinia across the Abyssal Plain between two weather fronts resulting in confused seas, big swell and 35kts of wind. With either too much wind or not enough wind sailing in the Mediterranean is challenging at the best of times and when it’s out of season it’s even more so! Unable and unwilling to motor for 200 nautical miles we decide to set off after one front passes and before another system arrives believing we can make it across without it catching up with us. We end up having to endure 36 hours of big seas and winds of up to 35kts and, even though we took medication to prevent sea sickness, we both end up feeling unwell and tired and find ourselves hating every minute of it. Before we could repair the leaking hull to deck joint on our Westsail 42, we had to remove all of the deck hardware that was mounted on top of the cap rail. Now that this boat project is complete, it's time to put all of the sailing hardware back onto the boat. It's a job that sounds simple, but unfortunately this task requires that we work upside down to install dozens of pieces of hardware, inside the dark and narrow space that is deep inside the bulwark. This 6 night, 7 night or 10 night liveaboard adventure takes you to the Southern Visayas region, which boasts some of the best diving in the Philippines. There is a huge diversity of marine life, muck diving hotspots, gentle sloping reefs and steep coral covered walls. During this trip you will visit and dive the islands of Cabilao, Cebu, Balicasag and Pescador; along with Apo Island marine sanctuary and macro hot spot Dauin. This itinerary not only offers amazing macro opportunities and the chance to see big schools of fish, but also the possibility of some larger pelagic encounters. Thresher sharks come in to Pescador Island to feed on schools of sardines and whale sharks can be seen year round at Oslob. Underwater the topography of dive sites varies from shallow sandy fringing reefs to steep walls dotted with seafans and sponges, whilst a couple of small plane wrecks and cars have formed artificial reefs. Marine life is diverse however common sightings include green and hawksbill turtles and schools of barracuda and jacks, whilst redtooth trigger fish, pyramid butterfly fish and blue lined fusileers are seen on almost each dive in huge numbers. Smaller creatures such as frogfish, ghost pipefish, octopus and pygmy seahorses are found at several of the dive sites and of course a wide range of nudibranchs, shrimps and crabs can be found on each reef. Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V700 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action, underwater scenes and small blogging is done with two Osmo action cams. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. The RORC's bi-annual Rolex Fastnet Race will be held again in 2023. Starting in Cowes on the Isle Of Wight, and heading west to round the Fastnet light off the coast of Ireland, to return to finish in Cherbourg France. It is the biggest offshore race in Sailing. Day 2 of KiteFoil World Series Gizzeria produced slightly lighter winds, and threw some subtly different challenges at the 96 riders competing in the south of Italy.

Named after Edwin Williams Streeter 'Father' of Broome’s pearling industry Streeter was part of the famous Streeter & Male Pearling fleet. Kim Male of Streeter & Male, remembers Streeter’s first crew were Malay with a Japanese diver named Mr Ejiri. Retrieved from Pearling in 1971, Streeter was relocated to Darwin to fish the northern waters as a barramundi and mackerel boat.
