He has spent the last 6-7 years as a regular crew member aboard what is now named andoo Comnanche and while the crew list on the boat for the race to the Gold Coast reads like a Who’s Who of grand prix racing, a significant number aboard have not raced on andoo Comanche before; so Arrarte’s experience aboard will be invaluable. The weather for the start of the race, with a very light sou’westerly will not suit this beamy racing machine at all, but the stronger breezes forecast for further up the coast may allow her to recoup any early losses she might concede to the ‘skinnier’ 100 footers of the Oatley Family’s Hamilton Island Wild Oats and Peter Harburg’s Black Jack.

Our time here spanned a few weeks, and we really get to know the area, above, and under the water. The Thunderball Grotto is one of our favorite snorkeling spots in the Bahamas and with the tidal changes, current can rip through the cave! Timing is everything. Fun fact, scenes from the James Bond movie Thunderball were filmed here! There are hundreds of fish like Sergeant Majors and Yellowtail Snapper. The area is protected from fishing so life is abundant in and around the grotto. The Bahamas is a shark sanctuary and the Nurse Shark population at Staniel Cay proves that they are thriving in the area. These creatures are so beautiful and stunning to watch swim through the water from the docks. With a storm on its way, we decided that because we weren't finished exploring everything on this beautiful island, we carefully decided to spend the money on a dock at Staniel Cay Yacht Club for a few nights. We explored the island on foot and discovered just how powerful Mother Nature can be on the windward side of the island. We are glad to have taken the dock with the wind shifts that were happening! A golf cart adventure with Trio leads us to a beautiful private beach protected from the howling Atlantic Ocean. We cross a river in our underwear and enjoy discovering wildlife in every corner of the Exumas. Cruising Costa Rica epitomizes the old saying that cruising is full of high, highs and low, lows. Almost a bipolar existence. We are blown away by the beauty of the Osa Peninsula. Covering an area of just 700 square miles on the southern Pacific coast of Costa Rica, the Peninsula is estimated to house 2.5% of the biodiversity of the entire world – while covering less than a thousandth of a percent of its total surface area – making it by definition, the most biologically intense place on earth. We see white-faced capuchin monkeys, Scarlett macaws, like the ones we saw in Golfito - and hundreds of other birds, reptiles, insects and plants, trees and flowers along this hike. The flips side to this amazing location is the sailing side of the equation. We face rolly anchorages, not much breeze and treacherous dinghy landings in order to access the shore. All this makes us wonder if a trip to Costa Rica would be better by land rather than on a boat 🙃. Binnen durch den Kontinent - Rhein - Rhonekanal Teil 6 Unser Segelboot Squib, ein Catalac 9M, ist in die Jahre gekommen, die Verkleidung hängt teilweise von der Decke, die Farbe blättert ab, die Elektrik auf dem Stand des vorigen Jahrtausends,..... Ein Refit steht an. Doch Broterwerb und Verpflichtungen lassen es nicht zu, monatelang in Griechenland am Boot zu arbeiten. Da wird schon 2018 die Idee geboren Squib nach Wien zu bringen, wo man jederzeit Zugang hat, der Einkauf von Material in der Muttersprache abgewickelt werden kann und alles andere seinen gewohnten Verlauf nimmt. Bereits 2018 starteten wir Richtung Wien, doch ein Motorschaden in der Straße von Messina zwang uns, den Überstellungstörn abzubrechen. Today we are taking mental break from endless boat jobs and spending the entire day at the beach. We hiked to Santa Maria Bay a secluded beach that does not get much traffic at all. We were looking for a new beach to go to and have been feeling for a hike. Thanks to @OceanWideExplorers for their video on Santa Maria Bay. We were able to find it pretty easily and it did not disappoint! Matty & Brit :)

I had a day on my own this weekend so I set about getting some boating jobs done!! First up was getting a new coat of paint on Piglet 2, my Seahopper. She's due in the water in a few week's time so I need to get the paint on now to make sure it hardens in time. Next was to brace my Outboard stand thats got a little bit wibbly recently!! Lastly I 3D print some enhanced jib hank clips that not only allow me to pass the Jib downhaul neatly through them, but also act as a better way to pull the clips on and off. July 28th on the Severn. The action continues with another perfect night on the water.

Another beautiful day around Sidney BC! Managed to get some rockfish, spiny dogfish, prawns and crab! Even saw a few porpoise along the way!

Where to begin with this one. It's a mash up of two weekends and 2 plans/ trips where neither are completed. Trip one was a passage to Osea Island, where we planned to anchor and spend the day on the beach there, play with the dinghy and then sail back! We got there all good and as we got there the wind began to pick up and I had a fantastic sail! (I say I because Charlie wasn't feeling great! Not from seasickness). We got to the island and the wind had picked up a fair bit and the anchorage was very busy and lots of boats and jet skis flying around so we decided to grab a mooring ball round the corner. I wasn't greatly pleased with the mooring and to be honest wanted to keep going so I decided to sail back.. yes from where we came from! Its about the journey right!? I drop the line and head back out screaming along as the wind has picked up to 14-15kts constant. GREAT SAILING! As we head towards the Wallet (A stretch on the east coast) the swell began to pick up as did the chop... Well before I knew it this turned into 2-3m short and confused chop and a wind of 20-24kts with it. (Wind against tide). We were thrown around everywhere and with Charlie in the V Birth thrown around everywhere, waves crashing over the bow, and me trying to reef alone in the seas, I decided turn back.. Wasn't quite the sail I had planned. It shook me a little as this was the worse conditions we have experienced but I was pleased I made the decision to turn back when I did.. an hour of bashing was more than enough! Trip 2 - A lovely weekend at Walton on the Naze was planned. Weather looking ok and yet again the wind and chop had other ideas, we got there fine but the forces for when we were coming back changed and picked up significantly and therefore we abandoned the idea of staying and came back the next day as you can see in the video. We made the most of it though and had a lovely day and play in the dinghy! The new to us outboard is a Torqeedo 1003 Travel. It was brought in 2017 and is in good condition considering its age and after testing for a couple of hours I have to say I am very pleased with it.
