Amanda and Geoff start this week off on the Carnival Horizon a little later than usual. They show you how to use the Carnival Horizon’s Laundry Service. They also learn how to fold towel animals on the Carnival Horizon. That afternoon they show you how many shirts they can fit inside of the Carnival Horizon’s laundry service bags. And later that evening they bring you along with them to the Carnival Horizon’s specialty dining Jiji’s Asian Kitchen. San Cristobal and Española are two of the first islands you visit when sailing to Galapagos. They introduce the sailor to a truly unique natural environment of our planet, that is incredibly rich in biodiversity and has abundant nutrients in its cold waters fed by the Antarctic Humboldt current. The Humboldt current reaches the Equator without warming up, carrying huge concentrations of plankton that in turn attracts lots of fish and marine mammals that feed in its waters. The underwater biodiversity in turn attracted many marine birds as well as land species, that evolved at a fast pace in each of the major islands, creating an outstanding living lab of evolution. When Darwin visited Galapagos in September 1835 to collect specimens and make observations he noted that certain species while being similar were slightly different from island to island and perfectly adapted to each. This was the starting point of his theory of evolution, which he published 14 years later in his landmark book The Origin of Species which sold out in a matter of days and gave him enduring fame. Watch this video to draw your own conclusions.

Our 3 year old sailing alone on MiniCat Guppy - During the voyages we do with teenagers and kids there is always a big Minicat onboard ( Minicat 420) to enjoy lots of fun sailing while anchored in exotic places. Here we are at a Minicat meeting in Italy, Lake Como and our son decided to claim a Minicat Guppy and insisted on sailing it alone! The Minicat Guppy is the smallest Minicat and perfect for kids to start sailing. #minicat After some sailing together and a few little lessons he actually did quiet well :) The Laura Dekker World Sailing Foundation sails with youth between the ages of 12 & 16 onboard a #scorpio72 named Guppy :) Check out our voyage options in the link below: https://lauradekkerworldsailingfoundation.com/voyages/ The Laura Dekker World Sailing Foundation has been established to provide programs for children and teenagers to develop life skills like team work, self confidence, responsibility, creativity, and leadership. PALO MAL TRIMADO. We make our way to the entrance to the King George River and check the tides to cross the bar. It’s a tricky bit of navigation. We spend a few days in the river checking out the rock formations, Twin Falls, and various other waterfalls and swimming holes. The fishing continues… Thanks for watching. Until next time. After a roller coaster 3 day sail from Honduras to Mexico, we arrive in Marina Chiapas. Our hands are full with lots of boat work from troubleshooting our fuel issue from when we broke down at sea to fixing our transmission shaft seal leak. On the face of it the forecast looked pretty tame, 10-14 knots of breeze and plenty of sunshine for the spectators. But when it came to the opening day at Cadiz, this was a day that challenged all the teams, irrespective of their experience and where a sea wall played a big part in the proceedings. On top of that, Day 1 was also an example of just how closely fought the racing has become in SailGP with the tightest scoreboard anyone could remember after a single day's racing. This week I install Starlink aboard Athena. This will allow us to have a fast, stable internet connection even in the most remote anchorages. Since recording the video, we have used Starlink for a couple of weeks, and it's been nothing short of amazing. A fast and stable internet connection. We even had internet the entire way across the Bay of Biscay. It sounds like there are areas in the US that are struggling with congestion (slow speeds). We don't know what the future will bring in terms of using the RV version offshore, and there is the ominous-sounding section 5.3 in the TOS. But for right now, for us, Starlink RV is nothing short of amazing. Starlink is evolving rapidly. Since recording this video, there are now rumors that RV and Residential are disabled when moving faster than a certain speed. I don't believe the limit is known. We have not yet encountered anything like this at 7-8 kts. Starlink Terms Of Service section 5.3. "... Starlink for RV can only be used within the same continent as the registered shipping address. If you use Starlink for RV Services for more than two months in a country that is different than your shipping address, you will be required to move your registered address to your new location or purchase an additional Starlink to maintain Service. ..." https://www.starlink.com/legal/documents/DOC-1020-91087-64?regionCode=US Starlink on boats Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/starlinkonboats If you're looking for a 4G alternative to Starlink for traveling around Europe, this is the best option we have found (300 GB for 40 EUR per month): www.tiekom.com 00:00 Intro 00:26 A somewhat extensive refit 00:56 Starlink - what we ordered 01:34 Short wall mount 02:31 Ethernet adapter 02:45 Dishy! 03:03 Starlink router 04:25 RV vs. Residential vs. Maritime 05:46 Why Starlink might not be suitable for a long-distance cruiser (TOS section 5.3) 07:06 Long range 4G as an alternative to Starlink 10:54 Tiekom - the best 4G provider in Europe 12:29 Installing Dishy 13:08 Testing the connection 226 Mbps! 13:48 Starlink App and Ethernet adapter 14:39 Running the cable (Scanstrut cable seal) 17:41 We'll be crossing the Bay of Biscay with Starlink 18:27 Cya! *** Links *** Sail Life website: https://www.saillifechannel.com/ Sail Life on Patreon: http://bit.ly/SailLifeOnPatreon Sail Life on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/saillife_/ Sail Life on Facebook: http://bit.ly/SailLifeOnFacebook Sail Life on Twitter: http://bit.ly/SailLifeOnTwitter

We are Ben and MP! Recently we decided to purchase a two-masted wooden schooner in Brazil. The fun detail about our story is that the boat we bought was sinking and relying on many bilge pumps to survive so we had to lift it onto the dry to start a full refit. Once the boat was lifted (for the first time in her life) we realized that the work needed was much more than expected. Between bailing or accepting the challenge, we decided to go for the second option. Watch us as we bring Yabá back to life with the help of an amazing team of traditional shipwrights, sharing every phase of the process, overcoming the highs and lows and having fun along the way. More about us: 👉 About us + Q&A https://youtu.be/TldDlohjwTs 👉 our website with more info about the project http://www.sailingyaba.com 💙 Massive thanks to our amazing team of carpenters that never let us down and continue to amaze us at every step of the process: Toninho, Zeca, Hélio, Claiton, William, Nezo, Nico, Beto and Luiz. YOU ARE LEGENDS!
We’ve started our journey to Annapolis, MD. After leaving Georgia we traveled to St. Catherine’s Sound Inlet. Due to an unfavorable wind direction we chose not to raise the sails. And doubly unfortunate the engine would not reach maximum rpm. Changed our plans to go to Sunbury Crab Restaurant and Marina as it was dark and navigation up the natural channel would be winding and shallow. Anchored and awoke to a beautiful bird show in the morning. Next leg was to a safe harbor in Thunderbolt, GA, where we had a diver check the prop and clean the bottom of the boat. Stayed for a couple of nights and went dancing in Savannah. Hey, subscribers, would love to see y’all at the Annapolis Sailboat Show. Sailing Channels Booth dates and times are below. Love you all! Kate was a junior sailor in Opti's and 420's while Curtis went cruising in the Great Lakes with his family. We met while sailing in a Melges 24 regatta and have been sailing together ever since. The first time we went cruising together as a couple was on a friends borrowed J Boats J 105 in the North Channel of Lake Huron and Canada (part of the Great Loop). Those few weeks, and watching other channels like Gone With the Wynns, Sailing Uma, Project Atticus, Delos, Nahoa, and Sailing La Vagabonde, convinced us that the sailing life was for us. We bought our boat, a J Boats J/46, in 2019 after spending years searching for the perfect bluewater sailboat to sail around the world. We were interested in a catamaran and monohulls, but loved the performance cruising design of the J(it is faster than most cruising catamarans). We spent six months refitting her in Rhode Island, before selling our house and cars, quitting our jobs, and leaving land life for good to become digital nomads, with the goal of sailing around the world via Cape Horn. We have since navigated over 12,000 miles together, through storms, big waves, pandemics, and lockdowns. We sailed to Maine, the Bahamas, the Caribbean, Grenada, Sint Maarten, the Azores, Canary Islands, and Brazil, on our way south to Uruguay, Argentina, and Chile to sail around Cape Horn and into the Patagonia fjords. We never intended to become influencers or start a new YouTube sailing channel, but now it is what we do. We love sharing our experience and adventures with you. We have learned to fly the drone and edit videos, trying to produce relaxing and listenable videos for you to sail away and watch at home while having coffee on Sunday mornings.
HAPPY SUNDAY everyone! I hope everyone has enjoyed their weekend. We are loving the Grenadines so far, the adorable little Caribbean towns filled with vibrant buildings, reggae music and good vibes. Just watch out for the rum, it sneaks up on you like a wrecking ball, well, it is 85% alcohol!!!! This week we take in all that Bequia has to offer, ship wrecks, jungle hikes and all! Bequia is truly a beautiful place! We will definitely come back here before we leave the Caribbean! Hope you enjoy it! Sustainability: Thinking about what we do today and how it will affect next week, next year, the next decade, and so on. It’s the recognition that we’re all part of a living system and that everything we do impacts the world around us. In other words, we want to be out in the world living and exploring for as long as possible. Both in terms of not having to worry about our resources or our habitat disappearing. It's practical, not political. And we know we're not the only ones seeking this kind of freedom because we have you! Our community of like-minded people we've been having this exact conversation with for the past decade. It doesn't matter if you are in an RV, Tiny House, Sailboat, Motorboat, Homestead, Farm, Ranch, or Off-Grid Island Resort...at the end of the day, we've all connected over our love for nature and our desire to be in it. This new HH44 is the continuation of that conversation and desire. This is not the ultimate, all-time perfect eco boat or zero-footprint anything. Not even close. It’s the best option that we could find working with viable, available solutions. It’s the type of innovation we want to support, encourage, and see way more of. We're super stoked about getting into the world of Performance Cruising and hybrid electric sailing with our new HH44 catamaran. HH catamarans have a reputation for building the best luxury performance sailing catamarans in the world. And now this is a brand-new boat designed from the ground up with solar, hydrogeneration, and electric motoring in mind. Add in our rain capture system and we have the ability to be off the grid and explore incredibly remote and uninhabited areas for months and months at a time. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WE’RE JASON AND NIKKI WYNN. A couple of modern-day documentarians, perpetual travelers, and seekers of tall tales. We’ve been chasing our curiosity around the world on wheels and keels since 2011. Why? Because curiosity is the key to unlocking life. It pushes us outside our comfort zone, softens our assumptions, and helps us embrace the great unknown. The more we let our curiosity lead the way, the more we discover about ourselves and the world around us. Our home is also our transportation and we spend weeks away from civilization and sometimes land. Self-reliance and living a sustainable lifestyle are a must. It's all about managing our resources and we’re always looking for new and better ways to do so. We've lived off the grid for over 10 years now in everything from a Van to RV to a Sailboat. And over time we have learned a lot about renewable energy, creating safe drinking water, and managing our waste. Our journey is ever-evolving but the mission remains the same: #CultivateCuriosity Timestamps if you like to Jump Around: 00:00 New Catamaran Build Update 01:17 HH44 Production Line 03:56 Li Battery Bank & FWD Storage 05:34 ECO Drive Hybrid Propulsion 06:40 Salon & Cockpit 08:25 Mini Keel with Winglets & Folding Transoms 11:17 Plugs and Moulds 14:03 Aft Deck, Longeron, Daggerboards & Rudders 15:55 HH50 & HH60 Production 17:03 Almost Complete 50, 55 & 88 19:12 HH52 #100 20:32 What's Next? This week we have a really interesting experience when a production company comes on board to film a commercial promoting tourism in Panama. They bring 4 boat loads of people and some serious equipment to get the job done, and some of the crew get to "model" for them as well! SV Parlay is a hurricane damaged Lagoon 450 catamaran, which Colin rebuilt with friends and has started sailing around the world. They found bulkhead damage on their catamaran in Panama, so have fixed her up, and are almost ready to cross the Pacific Ocean!! In this video Trent shows poor installation of our autopilot that resulted in it needing to be replaced by Raymarine under warranty and properly reinstalled. He touches on some of our experiences dealing with the new yacht warranty process when externally supplied parts are involved irrespective of who they came from. Trent wanted to note that the points he is making are based on the process of how some large companies who supply parts for the Leopard treat warranty claims and how varied their responses can be from location to location. Some are great and some render the warranty functionally worthless to people with visa constraints. He also wanted to note that what isn't mentioned is the time cost and stress of multiple parts of the Raymarine system as one example, failing slowly over time due to poor installation. That it would be far more cost effective and less stressful for him to just have a reliable contractor install the entire system or do it yourself to save time and money. Basically, that these warranties on external parts have limited valued in our opinion to international cruisers. It is best to assume that you will have to absorb all costs yourself if internationally cruising due to the time it takes to have simple issues rectified. Once you add in the possibility that the shipbuilder caused the failure at the point of installation it basically turns into a circus and you could be requested to get a surveyor to validate every single claim and get multiple quotes to fix the issues at which point they may not even pay for all of their own poor workmanship knowing that you will need to litigate to take it further. Nobody told us this before closing on the hull so we wanted to pass it on. ⛵ Hit the subscribe button to get the latest updates on our story 👍 _________________________________________________________________________________ Want access to EXCLUSIVE member only perks? INSANE FISHING! The last leg - French Guiana to Trinidad After our awful experience in French Guiana, we were really happy to be headed down the du Maroni River and back out to sea again 6 days after our eventful arrival - see last weeks video if you missed it. The trip out was quicker than when we came in as we were able to choose our tides. We kept a good lookout for river debris and fishing nets and were out at sea again after about 5 hours. The trip across to Trinidad was arduous and very slow. There was very little wind and flat sea, not to be sniffed at I know, but it makes for a very boring, very LONG and frustrating sail. To say our moods weren’t great during this passage would be an understatement. It’s incredible how with sailing, no two passages are ever the same, in our experience anyway. The upside to this trip is that we had some INSANE FISHING!!! We got to Trinidad with full freezers and having eaten some amazing fish meals along the way. We started picking up weather warnings about two days before we were due to get to Trinidad and decided to put the engines on and get there as quickly as possible to miss the predicted conditions. As seems to be a pattern with us, the entry into Chaguramas, Trinidad was far from uneventful. We arrived in the dark and had to navigate our was through the boca’s whilst dealing with a strong current. We finally got close to where the anchorage is and between the extremely bright lights that shine off of the boatyards into your eyes, sooo many fishing boats that were anchored around the outskirts of the bay, ships coming and going and the 100’s of masts we were seeing in the lights - that we thought were on the water but they we actually on the hard🤣 we tried to anchor in a small spot we found on the outer edge of the anchorage. That was when we had an engine fail on us AGAIN! With ships coming at us from different directions we were trying to maneuver ourselves and set an anchor with only one engine. 3 attempts later, dragging the anchor each time we gave up. We headed back out into the bay and the boys got to work on the engine. Turns out there was a crack in the water fuel seperator, exactly what had happened with the other engine a few months before, so air was getting into the fuel system. Thankfully we had a spare and within about an hour, Denver and Colben had changed that out and we were running again. Assuming that the anchorage was totally full we decided to spend time in the bay for the night and would go in for a look at first light. It was a long night, and when we eventually got in at daybreak it turned out it would have been incredibly easy to pick up a bouy had we been able to see past the wall of fishing vessels that had been there the night before. So we are in Trinidad, safe and sound, well rested initially and now working like crazy to carry out the repairs needed before heading up into the Caribbean after the hurricane season.
DETAIL YOUR BOAT LIKE A PRO We recently caught up with The Captain and his latest project boat; a 2002 Black Watch 26 Flybridge. Not too long ago we gave this boat some TLC with a full antifoul, full polish, sterndrive service and engine service and finally, it was time to turn our attention to the finer details. We had our Head Detailer, Ben Dollisson work his magic and resurrect her close to factory fresh with a full platinum restoration. A platinum restoration is a true full service with a holistic approach, with intention to get into each and every corner - certainly the best of the range when it comes to Short Marine's detailing services. Ben shares his secrets to a successful restoration detail, along with his favourite products and must-have tools to achieve that sparkling finish - See the step-by-step process of our platinum detailing and pick up some expert tips along the way.
