Here is the latest episode full of adventure as we sail down Central America from Mexico to Costa Rica. We hit a road block with the officials before we even set off! We have to forecast a light wind passage through the Gulf of Tehuantepec and the Papagayo winds while still having enough wind to sail the whole passage. Then about half way through our passage... pirates!? Maybe?! Or it could be fishermen setting lines that we could lay victim to in a few short hours. We must sail past Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua to get to Costa Rica and each section has its own challenges. The biggest challenge being the lines caught around our rudders and prop in the middle of the night requiring a night swim or two... Not ideal! Safe to say we sometimes wonder why we choose to sail. Never-the-less, we manage each difficulty as it arrises and only get stronger and more resilient along the way. We are hard at work converting our catamaran into an owners version with an epic owners suite on the port side hull. In this video we continue where we left off last week building the new cabinetry. Some folks may worry about excess weight however keep in mind we removed an excessive amount of weight when we cut out the modular shower / head unit! Upon first glance mere spits of land dot the water’s face but in reality there is an entire world waiting to be explored just below the surface. And so we spend our days exploring the protected lagoon and its reefs searching for conch, lobster, octopus, and fish and admiring its beauty. I can’t help but laugh at the irony of how we’ve reverted to hunter gatherers. But after so much time spent disconnected from nature it’s a joy to live in this simple way. Since we haven’t had much practice we don’t find much outside of the inedible starfish and occasional conchs. Though, I couldn’t resist the opportunity to swim amongst the stars. In our quest to get to this point, many times it felt as if we were reaching for the stars, for something that we may not actually be able to achieve. But here in the Central Holandes we are finally laying amongst the stars, and living the life we have dreamt of for so long. Finding our own conch feels like victory at this point and after a lesson in opening them from our new friend Tobias who lives on the nearby island, we were able to successfully open them without too much struggle. We added them to a conch chowder we made yesterday with a couple conchs we had traded onions for. It turned out delicious! I finally pluck up the courage to screw some much needed cleats into the Mirror Dinghy. I can't tell you how much advice I have had over this. Basically I ended up getting way too much advice, so I decide to just get them screwed in and used!! Diving in Galapagos its special, as the water is quite chilly yet it is smack in the middle of the Ecuatorial line. So they are hardly any corals but quite an interesting variety of tropical fish that adapt to the colder temperatures. On the other hand these waters are full of playful Galapagos sea lions, as well as sharks, octopuses, sea horses, crayfish and other lovely fauna.

Now that we are sitting in Rio Dulce giving Kariwa a bit of a face lift, I (Leslie) decided to spend my days digging through all the footage I shot a long time ago, and put it together in a video showing our first voyage on the boat from the Admirals (my) perspective. It is a quite different view than one from the Captains perspective. Work continues on the boat and. a new video will be out on that soon. In previous videos, the music has been quite unpopular but I like to watch a video with music so I hope this time, people will understand.
