We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach on Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, two years after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is! As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted. But for these people it's a dream, or may not even be a dream. We will look around and when the opportunity to help comes we will put our hands and hearts in to it.

Last week we left Shayne on a rather pleasant trip from Antigua across the Atlantic Ocean on his way to Toulon in France. This week shows the transition to North Atlantic conditions and the crew are slowed down considerably after hitting something in the water and smashing the rudder blade and rudder box! Luckily or (unluckily!) Shayne has been in this situation once before on a Transatlantic and while it is not something that is enjoyable to experience (even once) the problems it produces are not unsurmountable and he is able to remove the rudder and continue sailing. The plan now is to head to the Azores where they will be able to source materials to repair the rudder box and find a replacement rudder blade. Super Alberto Bona. Marinai si nasce e lui è nato marinaio. La sua storia Ottavo posto alla Route du Rhum 2022 nei Class 40 per Alberto Bona, nonostante il brutto incidente capitatogli a metà gara. Alberto si ferisce alla testa e deve necessariamente rallentare per automedicarsi. Grazie anche all'aiuto dell'assistenza da terra riesce comunque a condurre la regata sempre nella top 10 superando anche la rottura del gennaker. Torinese classe 1986 Alberto ha la vela nel sangue. Da neonato gira il Mediterraneo con la barca di famiglia. Nel 2006 si costruisce una deriva di 2 metri e mezzo in giardino e attraversa da solo il Tirreno, dalla Liguria alla Corsica seguito dal giornale della vela. Per farsi le ossa in questa Route du Rhum si allena duramente nella palestra più tosta: quella dei monotipo Figaro. Una verve di ferro da vero marinaio di altri tempi, porta Alberto a non desistere mai! Mit diesem Video startet eine kleine Serie, die genau das zum Inhalt hat, wie plant man so eine Reise, mit welchem Zeitaufwand muss man rechnen, welcher technischer Voraussetzungen bedarf es. In den nächsten Monaten werden auf diesem Kanal weitere Videos zu diesem Thema erscheinen, Besonderheiten, Entfernungen und Schleusentechnik einzelner Flüsse und Kanäle werden näher beleuchtet. Als wir vor unserer Reise zu diesem Thema recherchierten waren die Ergebnisse unbefriedigend. Ein Thema wird bewusst ausgeklammert, welche Scheine und Zulassungen werden benötigt, den das variiert von Land zu Land. Hier sollte sich man an die Schifffahrtsbehörden im eigenen Land wenden, um die richtige Antwort zu bekommen. Als Österreicher habe ich vor der Reise extra das "Schiffsführerpatent 10m für Seen, Flüsse und Wasserstraßen bis 10m", umgangssprachlich auch "Donaupatent" genannt erworben. Dazu hatte ich auch unser nationales UKW Funkzeugnis und die erforderliche Betriebslizenz. Unser Schiff Squib hat den österreichischen Seebrief, erst nach unserer Reise habe ich erfahren, dass auch noch eine Binnenzulassung nötig gewesen wäre. Auf beiden Reisen wurde ich kein einziges Mal danach gefragt, anders hätte es sicher ausgesehen wäre es zu einem Unfall gekommen. Après avoir quitté Illa d en Collom pour fuir un orage.. nous nous réfugions à Mahon ou nous retrouverons notre bateau ami Quark qui se trouve dans un autre mouillage de Mahon.. L'acalmie fut de courte durée... L'orage nous a rattrapé et reveillé à 2h30 du matin. les capitaines sont tous sur les ponts à surveiller, certaine ancre deccrochent, d'autre font des tours dans la baie en attendant que cela se calme, d'autres (comme mon capitaine) soulagent l'ancre avec le moteur.... le temps que l'orage passe. Nuit un peu courte. Au petit matin le capitaine de notre bateau copain nous apprend qu'il est echoué. Vous assisterez dans cet episode à son remorquage.. Nous etions les premiers sur place puis au fur et a mesure quelques bateaux sont venus nous porter secours.. pas de casse c'est l'essentiel... L'orage refrapera dans l'après midi alors que nous voulions nous reposer... mais pas de repos pour les braves... . pour l'instant le moral est toujours bon pour le capitaine et sa moussaillonne... et Ben.???? .. il surveille les baigneurs toujours

SAILBOAT REFIT: Gluing our broken boom back together Welcome back to sailing NV, where we’re refitting and Open 60, originally designed and raced in the Vendée Globe. One of our biggest jobs was to repair our 9m carbon fibre boom. In the last couple of videos we cut the boom in 2 pieces, and made a mould of the profile so that we could start building a sleeve.
