#177, ✍️Les courbes placides de Marie Galante nous ont bien protégés du sud-est. Ici, tout est paisible. Un pêcheur revient de sa journée de travail, les oiseaux le savent, ils guettent le poisson. Le mauvais temps s’évapore… Ces deux jours ont permis à mon réalisateur de se mettre à jours sur ses vidéos. Libéré de ses obligations de cinéaste, il va pouvoir canaliser son attention sur ceux, pour quoi nous sommes venus en Guadeloupe. Après la météo exécrable de ce week-end, l’état de la mer dans le canal était prévisible. Les ferrys sont bousculés, les voiliers ébranlés et notre Blacky cahoté, si bien qu’une drisse de prise de ris, casse ! Voiles en ciseau, nous évitons les casiers parsemés sur notre route avant d’arriver juste avant le grain à l’ilet cochon. Pendant que dans la baie, le Dragon entraine les secouristes, JP nous a réparé l’œillet de notre gennack. Et comme une bonne nouvelle n’arrive pas seule, notre nouvelle voile est en fabrication ! Sûrement intrigué par la nouvelle espèce du bord, un pélican observe. Il l’a repéré ! Lui aussi l’a remarqué ! Ce matin, mon capitaine a un air de wombat ! Pauvre Tchoupi, 7 dents en moins, arrachées pour sa santé, pour se retrouver aujourd’hui avec 18 quenottes en plus, va falloir qu’il s’habitue à son nouveau sourire de stars ! Et il use déjà de son harmonieuse dentition, sous l’eau, pour aller séduire les belles tortues ! Bilan de ces derniers jours, coup de vent à 35 nœuds, stress, nouveau œillet, nouvelles dents, retrouvailles avec nos amis, arrivée de la route du rhum, et chose que nous appréhendions sans vouloir y croire, rupture de notre deuxième Saildrive ! In this episode we motor overnight from Sines to the city of Lagos, where we do some boat preparations and provisioning while we hang out with the Kaimana crew. We then set sail for the passage to Madeira. While running the engine to charge batteries we discover smoky steam coming from the engine room! NOT GOOD! To preserve batteries we commence hand steering and leaning more on the Hydrovane wind steering mechanism. And finally we arrive safely in Porto Santo, Madeira! Thanks for following! Après avoir heurté la dérive avec un OFNI, nous décidons de nous rendre à la marina du Bas du Fort à Pointe à Pitre Guadeloupe pour sortir le bateau et ainsi effectuer la réparation de la dérive. On en profitera pour faire un léger antifouling et d'autres petites bricoles. Les réparations effectuées, nous partons au mouillage devant l'îlet cochon, bon mouillage car peu rouleur et à proximité de la marina et des commerces pour attendre les premiers ultimes de la route du Rhum. C'est le mercredi 16/11/2022 qu'arrivera dans la même journée, Charles Caudrelier sur Gitana au petit matin, suivi dans l'après midi de François Gabart sur Lazartigues et quelques heures plus tard Thomas Coville sur Sodebo.

Okt 2022: weiter geht es mit unserer "neuen" Bavaria 40 Cruiser von Poros auf Kefalonia nach Ithaka. Erst in der Traumbucht Pera Pigadi, dann in den Häfen von Kioni und Frikes. Weiter nach Meganisi wieder in eine türkisene Bucht Ambelaki. Teil 2: Sonntag brachen wir auf nach Pera Pigadi - Ithaka. Wieder kein Wind, daher eine kurze Strecke und eine herrliche Ankerbucht. Montag: wir entschlossen uns sehr spät am Nachmittag nicht noch eine weitere Nacht in dieser Traumbucht zu bleiben und fuhren nach Kioni. Dort bekamen wir noch einen tollen Platz im Westen vor der Mauer. Wir fuhren den Anker sehr gut ein und fühlten uns sicher. Kioni ist wunderschön bei Nacht. Wir aßen fein und hätten den nächsten Tag - es war viel Wind angesagt - auch gerne hier noch verbracht. Dienstag: leider drehte der Wind auf SO, obwohl NW angesagt war. Um 5:30 schlug mein Ankeralarm an. Der Wind drückte uns gegen die Mauer. Wir zogen die Kette fester aber am Ende half es nichts. Wir mussten ablegen. Es war knapp! Carlo holte den Anker ein. Ich fuhr fast Vollgas in die Luv-Leine und doch drückte es uns Richtung Lee-Yacht. Um die Leine zu lösen, musste ich kurz das Gas raus nehmen und knapp entkamen wir dabei einer Kollision ... ich kreiste wieder im Hafenbecken, während Carlo unsere Leinen holte. Nach uns legten weitere Yachten ab. @Sailing.Ithaka EP 28 hat ein ausführliches Video davon gemacht. Wir machten uns auf Richtung Frikes. Draußen erwarteten uns hohe Wellen und ich war froh in Frikes einen fast leeren Hafen vor zu finden. Dort legten wir uns im Päckchen an einen Kat. Danke noch mal an den Skipper Gerald ;). Wir wussten nicht, ob die Wassertiefe im Norden ausreichend ist, um seitlich an zu legen. Aber, ja, es wäre auch gegangen. Am Abend kam eine riesen Flottille rein. Mittwoch motorten wir nach Meganisi, fuhren in alle "Finger" mal rein. Machten auch eine Hafenrundfahrt durch Vathi. Der Anker ist dann weiter östlich in der Bucht Abelaki gefallen. Herrliches Wasser! Ein Traum. Donnerstag legt wir spät erst ab um in Nidry noch mal zu ankern. Dort gingen wir auch an Land, die Restaurant-Meile rauf und in der zweiten Reihe wieder runter. Ein schöner letzer Abend! Freitag war viel Wind angesagt und wir starteten sehr früh Richtung Heimathafen. 20 kn Rückenwind schoben uns fleißig rauf, das Tanken bei 20 kn war kein Spaß. Aber wenigstens klappte das Anlegemanöver im Heimathafen. Beinahe hätte die Mitarbeiter uns nicht an den Steg gelassen, weil sie die Furtuna, dank der neuen Aufkleber, im ersten Moment nicht erkannten ;) Teil 1: https://youtu.be/hy4LhcqL3yI Am Freitag, den 31.10.22 holten uns die Vorbesitzer mit "unserem Schiff" an einem Steg auf Lefkada ab und gemeinsam motorten wir zurück in den Stadthafen von Lefkas. Am Samstag, den 1.10.22 "zogen" wir dann ein. wir legten ab, damit wir um 11 Uhr die Drehbrücke Richtung Norden erreichen. Es folgte ein erster, wilder Ritt Richtung Paxos mit hohen Wellen uns stärker werdendem Wind. Glücklich kamen wir in Gaios auf Paxos an. Am Pier war leider kein Platz mehr und so drückten wir uns im Nord-Hafen zwischen zwei Dauerlieger. Sonntag: Der Anker war nicht gut eingefahren und so legten wir ab Richtung Lakka. Auf dem Weg in den Norden wurden die Wellen dann immer Höher und uns wurde klar, dass Lakka auch kein sicherer Ankerplatz sein wird. Also, zurück nach Gaios an die Pier. Da hat es uns auch in der zweiten Nacht gut gefallen und wir feierten unser schönes, gemeinsames Leben ;) Montag: wir segelten ein zweites Mal nach Lakka. Die Wellen liefen vom Vortag noch stark in die Bucht. Es schaukelte wahnsinnig. Dienstag waren wir mit meiner Schwester in Lefkas verabredet Mittwoch holten wir sie ab, segelten Richtung Süd, kehrten neben Meganisi um und legten auf Meganisi einen Badestop ein. Wir ankerten in der Bucht vor Nydri. Donnerstag: wir starteten Richtung süden ohne Ziel. Drehende und unterschiedliche Wind brachten uns am Ende des Tages nach Fiskardo. Dort legten wir im Norden mit Buganker und Landleinen an. Leider beobachteten wir so viel missglückte Ankerversuche um uns herum, so dass wir uns den ganzen Nachmittag nicht vom Schiff trauten, bis auch die Lücke neben uns geschlossen war. Das war auch nicht schön an zu sehen. Jedoch ist es zu zweit mit Seitenwind wirklich ein Wettlauf gegen die Zeit. Freitag segelten wir mit wenig Wind Richtung Poros. Wir ankerten vor den Restaurants und aßen lecker. Die Nacht war jedoch die ungemütlichste, die wir je hatten. Die Wellen kamen aus allen Richtungen. Die Nacht war schrecklich. Der Tag dafür um so schöner und so blieben wir, auch wegen der Lamm-Chops und des tollen Ankerspots eine weitere Nacht ;) Die Videos sind für Familie, Freunde und Interessierte. We dust the cobwebs off my 1984 CJ7 for a camping trip by the sea. Scenic drive on Pacific Coast Highway to Crystal Cove State Park and Moro Campground. We pitch our tent on the cliff overlooking the Pacific ocean, take a hike in the canyon and down to the beach. And of course we make some amazing meals while roughing it: Filet Mignon, Tilapia, egg sandwich croissants, and blueberry coffee cake!

Wonder how we anchor our 46ft Sailboat & how living in remote places feels like? Here is a day the life of Sailing SV CUBA. Hop onboard this week as we sail from Malta to a remote anchorage on the island of Gozo. Just after we left Valletta, we hear the coastguard call our boat name on the VHF radio but since we have not violated any maritime laws (and this time we even provision properly for our trip off the beaten path), we were free to continue our sail north. As we pass the spectacular cliffs of Gozo, on our sail along the coast, we are gifted with a downwind sail. But before the sun sets, we still have to maneuver our sailing yacht through a tiny gap between the huge cliffs to make it into the remote anchorage where we will spend the night. Hardly any boats come to this place. In order not to collide with a nearby sailboat, we use an anchoring technique called med mooring. This means we will have to drop our anchor, put our yacht into reverse and cast lines off the stern boat to shore. This is difficult to do with a short-handed crew and especially in high winds. Luckily our small anchorage is a calm protected bay, and we have it almost to ourselves. Join us next week on our daily life onboard a sailboat as we can continue our full-time travel off-grid around the world.

Winter boat cover and a tour of my 1976 Pacemaker 36’ Sportfisherman. Saving $$$ on the cost and environmental waste of shrink wrap by making my own winter cover for MV Solitude. I recycle the wood framing and reuse my cover. The cover usually lasts about 3 winters, hopefully this one will go the distance.
