We are Kathrin and Daniel sailing, cruising and living aboard our sailing yacht SV Polaris Helvetica, a 14m Bavaria Cruiser 46 from 2017. We left our native Switzerland and moved to the UK almost two decades ago. In 2021, in our mid 50-ies and after our three boys left the nest we made the big decision to leave the rat race in London and to make our beloved sailboat our primary floating residence. Over the years we added a generator, got rid of the propane gas cooker and replaced it with an electric stove and oven, changed our house battery bank to Lithium (LiFePo, Lithium Iron Phospate), added a 1,200W solar arch and a water maker. With these upgrades Polaris is now a comfortable home allowing us to cruise the coast of the United Kingdom and, most recently, Scoland, in comfort, summer and winter. Kathrin loves to cook and bake on board, you will see some of her cookery wonders across our episodes, and makes good use of her Thermomix cooker. We totally fell in love with our new lifestyle although we had to make some tough decisions. We vacated our rental house in London and sold and gave away all our furniture and belongings that had no space on Polaris. It is a very liberating feeling to be able to say that all we own is with us on our small sailing boat. There's nothing else to care about. We enjoy our freedom and exploring new places, discovering their history and we love making new friends along our way.

In this video we sail around the bay of Panama to the Pearl Islands. We find an abandoned hotel on the beautiful Isla Contadora and learn about it´s dark history. We find crystal clear water and white sandy beaches to show our son. We finally receive Amaru´s passport, after months of waiting and disputes with the registration office, so we plan a trip back to Europe for the summerv to meet each others family for the First time! and for them to meet our baby boy.

Tenemos submarino Hay un montón que algo que me impresiona a mí de aquí de Cartagena la cantidad de embarcaciones militares que hay de navío y cosas este tipo y son espectaculares de vez bien os decía solo 8:30 de la mañana y yo estoy sudando Además estoy chorreando porque al sacar el barco del atraque se ha enredado la hélice con uno de los cabos de amarre y nada y ya de buena mañana pues estoy estoy acalorado y sudando Pero bueno no ha habido ninguna rotura no había nada simplemente ha sido un enganche el motor los motores se suelen parar cuando la hélice tiene demasiada fuerza el eje está bien o sea que para adelante seguimos y estaremos atentos la meteorología porque ha estado chispeando y está chispeando y está la cosa un poco un poco oscura entonces estaremos atentos que ahora ya sabéis que los reventones térmicos están a la orden del día. Quería ver cabo de palos desde el mar es un faro realmente imponente y Bueno aquí lo tenemos por fin Hemos llegado Preciosa construcción la de este faro es muy bonita sin duda alguna fijaos como cambio el paisaje el panorama de la costa hemos pasado de una pista y una Costa salvaje a lo que se ve de una Costa bastante edificada vamos a hacer una parada en ISAL GROSA. Una vez que se ha marchado me aproximo a la boya muy despacio hay mucho barco y gente bañándose. Con la ayuda del bichero cojo la boya y pongo el cabo de amarre Ahora Ya sabéis lo que toca nos daremos un baño para refrescarnos Y de paso echamos un vistazo a la bulla y al muerto simplemente por curiosidad puesto que no estaremos aquí mucho rato. A mi parecer Sería mucho mejor que la línea que va del muerto a la boya en vez de ser de cabo fuese de cadena. Aprovechando que se levanta un poquito de Viento desplegamos La Génova y dejamos atrás ISLA GROSSA, vamos a navegar a vela. Antes de llegar a mi destino hago una parada en el puerto deportivo Campoamor para repostar combustible a mi salida del puerto recibo una inesperada sorpresa. Vamos a más de seis nudos solamente con la Génova acabo de echar gasoil en Puerto en Campoamor Entra o sin viento prácticamente no había nada de Viento y a la salida me he encontrado esto nosotros nudos que habrá pero está apretando vamos a 6 nudos de velocidad solo con la Génova a ver si lo puedo enseñar Ahí va solo llevamos la Génova . Por cierto en el capítulo anterior salvamento marítimo estaba buscando una persona desaparecida en kayak esa misma noche en el puerto de Cartagena me informaron que había aparecido sano y salvo es sin duda una gran noticia.

This Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 54 Deck Saloon with striking bronze/gold hull colour is an elegant and sporty cruiser that is powerful under sail and is comfortable to live on. She has a wide cockpit with ample seating and double steering, wide side decks and, in front of the mast, a large sunbathing area. She comes with a comprehensive sail wardrobe which includes: an in mast furling main sail, a genoa on an electric furler, a full radial cruising chute, a full radial spinnaker, a storm jib and a storm try sail. She is furthermore fitted out with electric winches, a 110 hp diesel engine, folding prop, bow thruster, 7kW generator, inverter, under water lights, a complete Raymarine navigation package, and a tender with outboard. To extend the boat’s range under power, one water tank has been replaced with a fuel tank. The interior of the Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 54 Deck Saloon is spacious and there is plenty of light thanks to the plentitude of windows. To make life on board even more pleasant she is equipped with reverse cycle air conditioning, leather upholstery, a TV on a power lift, and a washer/dryer. The slightly raised saloon is fitted out with comfortable settees, two big chairs, a foldable table to starboard and a minibar to port. The forward section of this 54DS consists of a V-berth forward, two head compartments, a bunk bed to port, and a double bed plus an extra single bed to starboard. The original removable wall section, between the bunk bed and double bed cabin, is also included. The huge master cabin located aft is fitted out with a centerline double bed, seats to both sides, and ample storage room. The ensuite head compartment is located to starboard and the separate shower compartment is located to port. This certificate is approved by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) – UK. An all-in hands-on tender driver course & qualification for the professional yacht crew. There are two courses that are recognised by the MCA, this one and the recreational power boat level 2 by the RYA. IYT Powerboat course covers vessels up to 15m (45′) with no accommodation driven by outboard or inboard motors in fair weather up to 20 miles from a safe haven. There is no horsepower restriction. The IYT Small Powerboat & RIB Master (Power Boat 2 equivalent) certificates do not require a commercial endorsement because they are commercial certificates. We are the only school offering a night sailing experience in your Powerboat course! This course includes 1 night sailing session. This is our opportunity to be silly, enjoy some Kung Foo Fighting see the beautiful Durdevica Tara Bridge which was blown up during world war 2 and rebuilt. It required the largest wooden scaffold to be built in order to complete it. An impressive feat at any point of history. As we don’t have any sailing for the time we have the opportunity to fill up our time with beautiful drives across this beautiful earth! Hopefully you stuck around for some silly dancing and fun times as we explored the Black Lake in Durmitor National Park and walked the 3 mile perimeter trail which is spectacular. We also had a few side waterfall ventures which we have included as we have had a lot of rain over the past week. This brings a lot of water down the steep mountains of Montenegro and leaves us with EPIC waterfalls. The one at the beginning is in the Risan Bay and appears to come out of a mouth directly out the side of the mountain. Truly spectacular!!! We will post more videos of it on Facebook and Instagram. We Encountered massive 8 feet waves on the way from Stirrup Cay to Soldier Cay, Bahamas, the Camera may not pick it up but we had some scary moments. Yes, I have to say it is heartbreaking to see footage of a friend's sailboat burning and quickly disappearing to the bottom of the sea, and without a reasonable explanation of what happened.. but this sailboat caught fire from a runaway diesel when the diesel engine suddenly raced out of control until it was superheated and started the engine room on fire.. and without warning, while the boat was at sea. Our hearts go out to Fred in this terrible aftermath of having suffered the loss of his boat completely, and we hope we can find cause and resolution to hopefully avoid the same from happening to anyone else. Most of the videos out there focus on floating around the Caribbean or Bahamas in a bikini. Now, that is surly life on a boat, but is it real? Sailing from island to island on a sunny day makes for shiny happy videos, but if one wants to sail around the world and liveaboard, they need to be prepared for some real singlehanded, solo, and doublehanded couples offshore sailing, which tends to be a little more like this. There are no bikini models in this video, just hardcore cold weather sailing in life jackets and foul weather gear! About Sailing Sweet Ruca & Us Kate and Curtis both learn how to sail when they were young. Kate was a junior sailor in Opti's and 420's while Curtis went cruising in the Great Lakes with his family. We met while sailing in a Melges 24 regatta and have been sailing together ever since. The first time we went cruising together as a couple was on a friends borrowed J Boats J 105 in the North Channel of Lake Huron and Canada (part of the Great Loop). Those few weeks, and watching other channels like Gone With the Wynns, Sailing Uma, Project Atticus, Delos, Nahoa, and Sailing La Vagabonde, convinced us that the sailing life was for us. We bought our boat, a J Boats J/46, in 2019 after spending years searching for the perfect bluewater sailboat to sail around the world. We were interested in a catamaran and monohulls, but loved the performance cruising design of the J(it is faster than most cruising catamarans). We spent six months refitting her in Rhode Island, before selling our house and cars, quitting our jobs, and leaving land life for good to become digital nomads, with the goal of sailing around the world via Cape Horn. It was never part of the plan to make videos on YouTube or become influencers, but we are so excited that we decided to create content. We love to share our knowledge and experiences with you! We have all types of videos from fixing repairs, to sail trim, to relaxing and listenable videos to asmr long form sailing content. Come sail away with us every Sunday Morning. We have since navigated over 12,000 miles together, through storms, big waves, pandemics, and lockdowns. We sailed to Maine, the Bahamas, the Caribbean, Grenada, Sint Maarten, the Azores, Canary Islands, and Brazil, on our way south to Uruguay, Argentina, and Chile to sail around Cape Horn and into the Patagonia fjords. We never intended to become influencers or start a new YouTube sailing channel, but now it is what we do. We love sharing our experience and adventures with you. We have learned to fly the drone and edit videos, trying to produce relaxing and listenable videos for you to sail away and watch at home while having coffee on Sunday mornings. After lots of trouble and hard work, it's time to have some fun! My beautiful friend, Amanda is visiting BE FREE and I even take Brian and Alisia onboard for a trip to San Blas. Lots of fun in Bocas del Toro before we wrap up our things and set off to new adventures. BE FREE still have lots of issues but I'm getting there step by step. All projects were put on hold for my friend's precious holiday. Bocas del Toro is most likely the busiest party place in the entire Caribbean famous among back packers. So we also had to check out the nightlife before setting sail. Outside Starfish beach, we even got a bunch of mermaids onboard for fun in the sun.
