It's a random chat video this week, as I've saved up a few observations and questions for you all! I'll talk about keeping the boat warm, things that go wrong, and ask why we look at other people's boats and is it always the women that open the locks? I'll also answer that age old question - why is a chandlery called a chandlery?

Trouble is- we were in a pandemic, had a university degree to finish, on a student budget, only had ever sailed dingies, oh and didn’t have a boat. The dream seemed not only unrealistic but pretty insane. However, we worked hard, finished our degrees, worked as many hours as physically possible, saved with all our might, got experience and in March 2022 bought our very own sailboat, Teulu. Having little sailing experience and being a young couple, we have encountered a tonne of hurdles and made plenty of mistakes! but for every downfall, there has always been a reason to dust ourselves off and carry on. We hope you can join us as we sail around the world and keep #bloodydoingit #sailing #boatlife

We leave Silica Beach on Hidden island and make our way to the anchorage at the entrance to Coppermine Creek. This area is known for its oysters and Magnus quickly manages to find a feast of them on the shore. We then take Nutshell up the creek to anchor further in. It’s then off to explore the various tributaries in Peanut. It’s an ancient land with incredible rock formations, many of which defy belief. It’s a breathtakingly beautiful, if not slightly eerie, place. We fill up our bladder at the convenient hose pipe and have a lovely warm swim in the tank at the abandoned Squatters Arms. When things don’t go according to plan there’s a popular two word expression that sums things up perfectly where the second world is ….’happens’. Following a spectacular nosedive at speed that resulted in a serious structural failure aboard their AC40, that seems to be the phlegmatic approach taken by Emirates Team New Zealand. It was almost like Neptune was listening to my cocky confident attitude towards sailing and struck me down to teach me a lesson. I'm thankful I made it to the next morning to sail another day on this epic journey south from Toronto to the Bahamas. Thankyou Neptune for teaching me this vital lesson...
In this video we describe why sailors use knots and nautical miles to navigate instead of kilometers. Locations on the earth's surface are typically marked using degrees of latitude and longitude. Degrees are further broken down into minutes, and one nautical mile is defined as one minute of latitude, so it is very easy to calculate the distance between two points on the surface of the earth. Airplane pilots tend to use knots and nautical miles for the exact same reason. Episode #268 : Season 9 : The South Pacific Hello Friends, On this weeks episode I head out to watch one of the biggest surf competitions in the world, The Outerknown Tahiti Pro at Teahupo'o. I was invited to head out to the end of the road in Tahiti with a fellow sailor and cinematographer, Nate P Meyer ( www.instagram.com/natepmeyer ) Nate flew in from Montana to film and Competition so I tagged along and we headed out on the water on a taxi boat sitting right at the surf break. I am not overly knowledgable about professional surfing but I have of course heard of Kelly Slater and it was incredible to watch him surf so close by. https://www.worldsurfleague.com/events/2022/ct/11/outerknown-tahiti-pro/main We also ended up making some new friends, Jay West and Hunter Paris. (You will see another adventure me and Jay got into on Moorea) This was easily one of the most amazing experiences of my life, If you ever had the chance to go out on a boat (WITH A HIGHLY SKILLED CAPTAIN) to see a surf break like this up close and personal, make sure you DO IT!!!! I want to thank https://www.teahupooadventure.com for an amazing and safe day on the water! If you go to Tahiti hit them up and book a day on the water (and no I did not get a free trip in exchange of promoting them, I paid full price and would gladly do it again!) Updating you in real time on what we are up to! Are we back in Qatar or in Turkey? #shorts
Well this week we have a worrying start! After some very nasty wind and swell turn up unexpected in our little anchorage, we try to weigh up where we can sail to, to avoid this awful weather, but not only is it getting late and there is no where at all near with protection, the engine decides to completely stop working! So we are in 2+ meter swell, huge winds on a rocky lee shore with no engine! Join us to find out what we do in a crisis! Thank you to our wonderful patrons, you are really helping to make all this possible! Don't forget to pop over to Patreon to watch all the extra footage, and get all our episodes a week early. #sponsorshipopportunity #buyingaboat #boatsforsale We found an abandoned Lagoon in the Portimao Marina, Portugal. Well does look abandoned but in reality it has an owner that comes once or twice a year but its not very fond on cleaning or maintaining the boat. So we go on a hunt to check if he wants to sell it, but we find out that no, he doesn't want to sell his boat and he loves it as it is. The Marina staff mention that the state of the boat inside goes accordingly with the outside. So now you tell me...why would you keep a precious boat like that in that state? Anyway just a few pontoons ahead we found our dream boat. The Surreal Sunroof 60 Eco. After all that excitement we go to the anchorage to see the Duddley Dix HD550, a beautiful boat with so many unique features. Let us know in the comments what do you think about this one. We are really enjoying this life and sharing everything with you it's been wonderful . Thank you very much, you guys are amazing supporting us with your likes and comments, we really feel that we have a new family out there. Much love Carla & Simon A little bit about us... We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach on Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, two years after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is! As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted. But for these people it's a dream, or may not even be a dream. We will look around and when the opportunity to help comes we will put our hands and hearts in to it.

It's hard to believe that the crew is on the home stretch of their three-month sailing excursion!! Watch as the crew battens down the hatches and preps the boat for the most intense sailing yet. Their first destination in this episode is Aruba, where they take a quick breather and sample the local culture. From there it's a quick turnaround to their biggest test yet - the highly anticipated 5-day sail from Aruba to Panama. Although the crossing was painful, tiresome, and full of boat problems, it offered the crew a number of once-in-a-lifetime experiences including reeling in a massive 4-foot Wahoo.
