It's time for us to begin filling all of those seams which pieced our kit boat together. We're finally back to good 'ol boatwork this week, and it has nothing to do with fairing!! Now that it's getting warm enough to work with products outside of the boat, it's time for us to begin working with gelcoat on the exterior of our catamaran. The first step is to remove the existing gelcoat on each side of the seams, which we thought was going to be a huge mess and leave gelcoat dust EVERYWHERE! But with the help of a belt sander from Colby, Matt was able to easily strip that back and keep a clean work space. Even though the pieces were bonded together with our methacrylate, we still want to fill in any gaps, and go about doing that with our Total Boat polyester structural putty, which is full of milled fibers for extra strength. A single layer of our 12 oz double bias fiberglass goes on and sits overnight to dry. After getting sanded down, Matt wants to go right into adding gelcoat instead of fairing compound. Mais dans ce tourbillon de monde, de bruits et d’odeurs, la saturation de nos sens nous rappelle vite à notre nécessité : le calme de notre logis berçant. Faut dire aussi que l’environnement dans lequel il se trouve à quelque chose d’apaisant. Au milieu de la richesse des quatre écosystèmes de Portobello, nous nous sentons complètement en osmose avec la nature. Les abeilles bourdonnent. Dans nos kayaks, chaque mouvement de pédale se fait le plus doucement possible pour faire le moins de bruit. Silence ! La nature tourne ! Les hurlements des alouates raisonnent. Il parait que les cris de ces singes peuvent retentir jusqu’à 5 kilomètres dans les arbres. Tout prend de l’importance. Un crabe, un insecte, la beauté d’une racine de palétuvier. « Aqui, bien… bien », lui le sait ! Nous nous croisons, échangeons un sourire. On aime, on écoute, on s’enivre ! Plus loin, dans la forêt tropicale, il faut être patient. Juste prendre le temps, attendre, guetter, et ils se laissent observer entre les branches. Nos premiers singes hurleurs nous épient. Il y a aussi les Tamarins de Geoffroy, ces petits primates au visage imberbe avec leurs vocalises sifflantes. À nos pieds, ce sont les fourmis Atta qui sont fascinantes, on passerait des heures à regarder leur petit manège. Puis il y a les araignées, les criquets, les écureuils, les papillons, les toucans et cette végétation. Splendide, abondante, luxueuse. Nous explorons chaque biotope, mangroves, lagunes, rivières. Sous l’eau, l’abondance est tout aussi spectaculaire : poulpes, per-roquets, raies, nurserie de coraux…Et comble de délice, une superbe araignée de mer finira dans notre assiette. The Torrent de Pareis (El Torrent de Pareis in Catalan) is a stream that crosses the Sierra de Tramontana de Mallorca. It descends to the Mediterranean Sea from the place called S'Entreforc. You can only reach the pebble beach through a tunnel, so when we anchored our boat in the bay next to the Torrent, we walked through the tunnel and ended up in this beautiful place!'

Nous reprenons le chemin du retour de Villefranche-sur-Mer jusqu'à Saint-Raphaël en s'arrêtant sur un mouillage à Antibes.

Wir haben schon ausgecheckt, um von Guadeloupe nach Antigua zu segeln. Doch dann haben wir ein mulmiges Bauchgefühl. Die Einreise mit Hund soll auf Antigua sehr schwierig sein. Die Behörden haben wir versucht zu kontaktieren, aber es gab keine Antwort. Wir nehmen Kontakt zu anderen Hundebesitzern auf, hören Horrorgeschichten von konfiszierten Tieren und entscheiden uns, doch noch mal einen Tierarzt aufzusuchen, um alle Impfungen und Kuren auffrischen zu lassen. Plus frisch ausgestelltem Gesundheitszertifikat. Also müssen wir unseren Kurs ändern, ein Stück zurücksegeln, um einen Tierarzt aufzusuchen. Dabei stellen wir fest, dass wir noch ein ganz anderes Problem haben. Unsere Stopfbuchse hat sich gelöst! Also segeln wir noch weiter zurück, um einen Mechaniker zu finden. Manchmal ist eben der Wurm drin....

Bau der neuen Eingangstüre und der Rückwand hinter dem Fahrersitz Unser Segelboot Squib, ein Catalac 9M, ist in die Jahre gekommen, die Verkleidung hängt teilweise von der Decke, die Farbe blättert ab, die Elektrik auf dem Stand des vorigen Jahrtausends,..... Ein Refit steht an. Doch Broterwerb und Verpflichtungen lassen es nicht zu, monatelang in Griechenland am Boot zu arbeiten. Da wird schon 2018 die Idee geboren Squib nach Wien zu bringen, wo man jederzeit Zugang hat, der Einkauf von Material in der Muttersprache abgewickelt werden kann und alles andere seinen gewohnten Verlauf nimmt. 2021 war es dann endlich soweit, mit zwei generalüberholten Motoren und einem neuen Geräteträger starteten wir Anfang Juli Richtung Südfrankreich.Leider hatten wir für die gesamte Reise nur zwei Monate Zeit, deswegen hieß es die meiste Zeit Strecke machen. Doch manchmal nahmen wir uns die Zeit zu verweilen, uns Orte näher anzuschauen. It was a peaceful Monday morning. We went for a bus ride and did some grocery shopping. We had no idea what was in store for us that day! A little storm was predicted with 22 knots winds and five-foot swells out of the NE. When we got back onboard around 11, the swells had started coming through the inlet and smashing on the western end of Junkanoo Beach anchorage. We were pretty far inside on the eastern end of the bay, safe we thought. By 4pm, the tide had dropped 3 feet, the wind shifted to the NW and the swells were driving Freya directly toward the beach. In minutes we were aground and the swells just kept pushing us harder. I ran up on the bow to man the windlass, QP started the engine and we started creeping forward inch by inch. Ellis from SV Booby Trap came over to lend a hand, but there was nothing he could do. We had to just keep inching forward until one of the swells lifted us off the bottom and we could safely re-anchor. We finally floated off and moved out into the bay. There was no space left to anchor on the eastern side. We tried anchoring on the western side, but it was far too rough. We decided to go past the cruise ship dock and anchor in Nassau Harbor. Freya was a mess inside and we were still way too worked up to sleep, but we were safe!
