Magnus heads out in Peanut to do a spot of fishing and finds not only loads of dolphins, but also a giant tiger shark! We cruise around the nearby islands and end up at Whalers Bay. More fishing from Peanut. It’s a pleasant place to be. We take a good look at Sam’s (Ostrich) Island too. Here’s a bit of background information about Sam… Yugoslavian, Sam Ostojich, settled in the Pilbara in 1965 after first arriving in Australia in 1960. Sam's first encounter with Tidepole Island, a tiny island just off the Dampier coast, was when he visited it on a raft made of 44-gallon drums, which he had lashed together. Unfortunately, he hit a storm and was stranded on the island for days. Then he had the idea to make the island his own, so he began gathering nearby objects and turning Tidepole Island into his Yugoslavian paradise. After many years of working on the now-named Sam’s Island, his dedication was honoured by Hamersley Iron, which awarded him a 99-year gentleman’s lease. Hamersley Iron also constructed a water pipe to the island for him. Sam welcomed many daily visitors to his island paradise and was happy to have a yarn and share a meal and a brew. He was a truly inspirational man and a Dampier icon. Then it’s time for us to refuel on land and set sail on the first big leg of our trip back to Darwin. Thanks for watching. On our previous stops in Beaufort, SC, we only stayed a day or two which really only gave us time to checkout the beautiful waterfront park and nearby shops. Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V700 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action, underwater scenes and small blogging is done with two Osmo action cams. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. Now that is the time when we can start exploring The Mediterranean Sea. We are so eager and excited. The season started Just perfect, with our recently improved purring engine. We did some mistakes and and it was a bit chilly than we are used to, but it was phenomenal! There are currently only about 30 people living on the island right now which makes it one of the most remote island settlements in the Bahamas. Here we meet Nino, the owner of Bahama Salt. In this episode Assarain IV continues north from Castle Island in the Crooked Island group in the Bahamas. On arrival at Clarence Town, Long Island, the crew meets up with some other cruisers on the beach, who let us know about a local pig roast. The next day we join Tim and Toby for a drive up to see some of the sights including: - The Shrimp Hole....a local cavern that's home to a unique red shrimp. - Dean's Blue Hole, the (debated) deepest vertical blue hole in the world, descending down 220m from the surface. Dean's Blue Hole is home to many free diving competitions and is also a cool hangout, with a nice protected beach, jumpable cliffs, and blue water. From the late morning start yesterday of the Long Offshore race, the fleet of 38 entries from 11 nations experienced a wide diversity of conditions in this suitable test of skills to open the 2023 ORC European Championship, co-hosted by Royal Malta Yacht Club and Yachting Malta. Elapsed times ranged from 19:41:46 for the Class A winner, Karl Kwok’s (HKG) TP 52 BEAU GESTE who raced 186 miles, to George Greer’s (USA) Arcona 380 KIBOKO TATU whose team from SWE raced 151 miles in almost 29 hours.

Its been an eventful 24 hours in Leg 4 of The Ocean Race 2022-23. The fleet has been having to deal with some tighter spaces than they have grown used to over the last Legs, navigating between fields of oil rigs and exclusion zones. This resulted in some close-to-shore racing, with Team Holcim-PRB ultimately suffering an incredibly big blow. Highlights of what happened globally in the sport of sailing in the last 7 days. There's been another crew accident on Boris Herrmanns' Team Malizia boat, in the Ocean Race. Nico lunven, their navigator, went on deck on night one, and as the boat luffed, the headsail sheets whipped him in the face, leaving him like he'd been 15 rounds with Mike Tyson. Happily for Nico he was back on the job after the medical experienced Malizia crew, attended to his wounds. All OK! This is your Sailing Weekly Global Highlights show, the World on Water, for April 28, 2023. This week the U S Sailing scene comes to life with many of our reports. Firstly, the New York Yacht Clubs' America Magic, their AC 40, joined the huge AC 40 Capsize Club. Once again the Recon Video team was not on the spot to capture the event. The group of international match racing sailors were absolutely swamped by local super captain, Chris Pool and his crew. Hosted by the long beach yacht club, Pool sailed the full series without losing one match. A super demonstration of power match racing in this years' Congressional Cup. Race Day 1 of Charleston Race Week, got off to a rousing start with ideal conditions delivering an action-packed opening day. Southeasterly winds ranging from 6 to 11 knots, enabled organizers to complete four races for all of the inshore courses. Meanwhile, offshore race committee chairmen Bruce Bingman and Ray Redness were able to give all the pursuit classes relatively long races. With a 1st, 3rd, and a discard on day 3, Casey Imeneo of Australia sits in 4th place overall at the French Olympic Week 2023 as we move into the final series of the Ilca 6 Class. Casey Imeneo handled the conditions best of the Australians, before racing was cancelled for the rest of the day.
