We like coconuts. Coconuts are up in trees. To get them down we built a contraption called a NUT JIGGLER from common items we had onboard. A NUT JIGGLER is nothing more than multiple telescoping boat hooks lashed together to create a super-long pole with a hook on the end. So for the day, we welcomed Sophie of @RyanSophieSailing . If you've been following their videos as well (and you definitely should) you'll know that they're on the lookout to trade their current boat in for something newer. The question for them is do they buy new or build new? We figured we would put her to the test to see if she has what it takes (both in skill and desire) to build a boat. We put her through almost every task imaginable - sanding down fiberglass; filling spots with thickened resin; glassing (in easy spots AND hard); and then finally ended the day with fairing. For a beginner, her skills were top notch - to the point we'll gladly welcome her back to help any day. But after we put her through all that work, will she ever want to do boat building again? After 2 weeks of sailing we are so excited to finally be on land! The Caribbean is so incredibly beautiful. The blue waters and the blue skies are such a great vibe. All of us missed swimming in the water so that was the first thing we wanted to do! We surfed, harvested coconuts and had an amazing dinner on our first day here. Pretty pumped to go and explore the islands in the coming days! We still can't believe that we made it across the Atlantic. EP 225: Farewell Lady Africa.. So the time had come to sign paperwork and make it official.. We motored Lady Africa to the USVI to her new home in St Thomas. What a crazy roller coaster of emotions. If you see Lady Africa in an anchorage be sure to go say hi to Doug and Margaret. They are great! Once we said our goodbyes, we hopped onto a beautiful Leopard 45 called Ohana with the owners Grant and Leanne and headed off to the BAHAMAS baby! Sailing in pirate infested waters from Honduras to Providencia is not an easy feat. This was an epic sail, a 4 day journey around the coast of Honduras and Nicaragua, through pirate infested waters. We thought it was going to be rough, heading East for 48 hours, but instead of beating into the wind, we actually sailed some of it. Other than the challenges of sailing dark in the dark and heightened awareness of piracy potential, it could not have been a better journey. It's hard to believe I am able to say that as we anticipated a very challenging trip. Sunny skies, flat seas and 8-13 knots of wind made for perfect conditions in the start of inshore windward/leeward racing on the third day of the 2023 ORC European Championship, hosted by Royal Malta Yacht Club and Yachting Malta. Two races were held for all classes, with the 10 teams in Class A and 9 teams in Class C racing on one course area to the north of Valletta harbour, while the 18 teams in Class B competed on one course area set to the south.
