Over the last couple of years I have posted a number of videos on my youtube channel showing our 30ft Sagitta catamaran under sail. As a result people have asked for an interior tour, so here it is. Sagitta was built in our garden and launched in 1991. There are some youtube videos of it sailing back then, so please check them out. Sagitta is a "sailors boat" - so it's a performance cruiser for two couples. It was designed to daysail with eight onboard, offer drinks/food for six and sleep four. This boat has actually cruised from the UK as far as Trieste in Italy, yet was outright winner of the 2026 multihull class in the Round the Island race (Isle of Wight, typically 1000 entries) The saloon headroom is limited to keep windage low, and, more importantly, to make winching and working the deck layout easier. Of course there is full headroom in the hulls. We fitted two companionways, thus reducing the times you need to cross the saloon. When sailing you can easily enter via either to sit in the saloon, or use the starboard one to access the galley, the port one for the heads. More important than filling the boat with bunks is a good head/shower compartment and of course an excellent galley. The central heating is ducted to both hulls and the saloon. The portable fridge/freezer means food can be taken from home, as it will be kept frozen using the car's 12v supply. In each hull is a comfortable double bunk, located aft for the least motion, with sitting headroom. There is no point in having an overwide bunk at sea as, even on a multihull, one rolls around too much. The table drops down for an extra berth. Also essential is plenty of stowage for cruising "stuff". So under one saloon seat are enough tools to rebuild the boat, plus a 300Ahr Lifepo4 battery. There is a big watertank under the other seat. Resin/glass/paint etc is stored in a cockpit locker, along with spare fuel cans, "dirty" engine spares etc. Sails are stored in a big forward locker, anchors and fenders in the forward bridgedeck lockers. Dans cette deuxième vidéo tuto, nous sommes allés plus loin dans les explications afin de répondre aux nombreuses questions reçues après la mise en ligne de la première en 2025. Construit à Genève par Jean Psarofaghis et lancé en 2012, le Psaros 33 reste la référence des régatiers les plus exigeants du lac. Ce voilier de course a été pensé pour gommer les défauts du Psaros 40, trop grand et trop gourmand en équipiers, tout en conservant sa vitesse. Il se mène en équipage complet, en équipage réduit ou même en solitaire. Sa construction en sandwich époxy fait la part belle au carbone haut module, pour le mât, la bôme et le bout-dehors. Sa quille pendulaire électrique s’incline jusqu’à 45 degrés. Pablo Arrate is another experienced Volvo Ocean Racer who is frequently to be found on some of the top maxis in the major ocean classics like the Rolex Middle Sea Race. He talks about the conditions in the race and in particular the high winds and steep seas of the last 24 hours. Pablo will be back in Australia for the 2026 Rolex Hobart Race sailing on Loyal (formerly Comanche) with Anthony Bell. Harry Smith is a regular feature in many of BCM's yacht racing pictures of Maxis as he is an in-demand and highly experienced bowman, who is commonly to be seen in the 'firehouse zone' of boats like Comanche and Wild Oats X. We talked to him about his race aboard Balthasar and also asked him what advice he would have for any young sailor aspiring to work on the bow of a maxi yacht.

Well the work season is now in full swing. Repairs, replacements, upgrades--its all happening. One upgrade is a new and larger topsail. The old topsail did not set correctly on account of the luff being too short, which meant the halyard attachment point was too close to the head causing the sail to bow unless the downhaul was cranked precariously tight. But a larger topsail means that I need to construct new yard and jackyard. For which the lumber has just arrived from Bear Creek, and I waste no time in ripping out the beginnings of the new spars. We caught up with him at the Annapolis Sailboat Show to hear about his incredible journey from serving in the U.S. Navy to becoming a tall ship captain and ASA sailing instructor! ⚓ How did your sailing journey begin? Cory spent 10 years in the U.S. Navy, serving aboard the USS Springfield submarine before discovering sailing through friends in the Chesapeake Bay. What started as volunteering aboard a historic schooner eventually turned into a full-time sailing career! ⛵ How did you become an ASA instructor? After years of sailing tall ships and earning his captain’s license, Cory discovered ASA through a fellow sailor at Norfolk Harborfest in 2022. He earned his first instructor certifications that year and has been sharing his passion for sailing ever since! 🌊 What do you love most about teaching sailing? Introducing new people to the water! Cory spends his winters teaching with Go Sail Virgin Islands and his summers sailing traditional schooners in the Chesapeake Bay. His favorite part is showing students that sailing is more accessible than they might think. 🌴 What’s your advice for someone who wants to start sailing? Just ask! Cory’s sailing career grew from meeting fellow sailors, volunteering, and taking opportunities to get on the water.
