Our visitors have gone and it’s time to get going. This is as far east as we sail this season. From here we turn around and start heading west — west all the way to the Caribbean. First, though, we have a date in Canet in mid-August. With a break in the westerlies, we need to make haste and get moving as fast as we can. Ahead of us is about four days of sailing, including a few overnight passages. This is real-life Med sailing and motorsailing: progress that can feel slower than a person on a bike, and a reminder that the Mediterranean isn’t the “big ocean” — until you’re trying to cross it against the clock. Join us as we leave the east behind, pick up the westbound rhythm, and take the first real steps on the path that will eventually take Helios to the Caribbean. Angela Collins Yachts is flying from Cape Town to attend the Cannes Yachting Festival in France.
Yacht journalist Dick Durham sits down with Kraken Yachts founder Dick Beaumont to discuss their opinions on the recent capsize of the Oyster 825 "Viva La Vida," which suffered severe keel damage during Hamilton Island Race Week in Australia, off the coast of the Whitsunday Islands on 21 August 2026. All ten crew on board were safely evacuated with no injuries reported. In this conversation, Dick Beaumont sets out why he believes bolt-on keels pose a fundamental safety risk to bluewater sailors, and why Kraken's fully integral Zero Keel design was engineered specifically to remove that risk altogether.
🇳🇿🇺🇸 // “We’re paying a heavy price for it” While the daggerboard IMOCA MSIG Europe was never in the same league from the start on this transatlantic run, the Kiwis were determined to fight tooth and nail to stay attached to the fleet. Unfortunately, the J2 furler failure precipitated the inevitable. And it came with a steep price tag. To repair the drum on deck, Conrad and Elie spent no less than 2.5 hours working in wildly unstable conditions and a rough sea state. “Of course, that’s the exact moment the front swept over us. When I felt the rain start falling, it just broke my heart. We were heading North to repair, instead of making easting... As a result, we got completely uncoupled from the weather system. The other boats had no issues. They kept blasting ahead, locked in ahead of the front.” Now dropped into a different air mass, the chances of closing the gap on the pack are slipping away, leaving the crew to play their own hand. But it will take a lot more than that to dent the morale onboard. By claiming a great 3rd place in yesterday’s “Super Sprint”, Conrad and his crew proved they’ve got plenty of resilience and won't be giving up!

Our dinghy died miles from our sailboat as darkness closed in and a massive lightning storm rolled toward us. Then our hair began standing straight up—the terrifying warning that lightning could strike at any moment. What was supposed to be a simple family sailing trip from Miami to Key Largo for key lime pie quickly became one of the scariest nights we’ve experienced on the water. The day began perfectly. We left Miami early, spotted dolphins, and motored across a glassy ocean toward the Florida Keys. Our only real plan was to anchor in Key Largo, explore town, and find the best key lime pie we could. But boat life had other plans. After finally getting our unreliable dinghy started, we crossed some questionable water, found a dinghy dock, and walked to the Key Lime Pie Factory. When we returned, the dinghy engine wouldn’t start. We spent over an hour troubleshooting it, but nothing worked. With darkness approaching and lightning flashing around us, we had only one option: paddle all the way back to our catamaran. At first, everyone was laughing and making jokes. But as the wind picked up, the waves grew, our phones began dying, and the boat still looked impossibly far away, the mood changed. Then Malia’s hair started standing straight up—one of the warning signs of an imminent lightning strike. We were exhausted, scared, and completely exposed on the water. More than an hour later, we finally reached our sailboat safely…only to discover that our generator had stopped working. By morning, our watermaker had failed too, leaving our family without running water or flushing toilets. Just another peaceful day of living on a boat. 😂 But this episode isn’t all boat problems and terrifying storms. We enjoy our first family sunset dinner on the flybridge, sail through the Gulf Stream, and watch the boys catch a beautiful bonita—and then hook into the biggest fish they’ve ever fought! We finish the adventure back in Miami, where we dress up for one final night with Malia and Hayden before their early flight to Boise. Saying goodbye to our daughter was harder than we expected. It’s one thing for her to leave for college. It’s another knowing that we’re the ones sailing away and will soon be in another country. This episode captures everything about full-time family sailing: incredible beauty, complete chaos, broken boat systems, deep-sea fishing, terrifying weather, and the family moments that make every struggle worth it. If you enjoy family sailing adventures, catamaran living, offshore fishing, Florida Keys travel, and the honest reality of living aboard a sailboat, subscribe and join the Sailing Banana Pancakes crew! Next week, we begin making our way north along the East Coast—but as usual, nothing goes according to plan. ⚓ Subscribe and follow our family as we sail the world 👍 Like this video if you would have paddled through the storm for key lime pie 💬 Tell us below: What would you have done when the dinghy stopped working? #FamilySailing #BoatLife #SailingAdventure

in this episode of Sailing EV, we sail Copernicus into the beautiful historic city of Angra do Heroísmo on the island of Terceira, Azores. After making our way across the Atlantic, we finally get the chance to bring the Fountaine Pajot 42 into this incredible part of the world. This is our first time anchoring Copernicus in the Azores, so there’s a little bit of excitement — and a lot of checking charts, depths and anchorages — as we find our spot. Once the anchor is finally set, it’s time to leave the boat behind and explore Angra do Heroísmo. This UNESCO World Heritage city is packed with history, beautiful old streets, colourful buildings and, of course, some very welcome cold beers! We wander through the city, soak up the atmosphere and discover. Join my Patreon here: patreon.com/u76484957
1965 Pearson Triton 28 — Classic Pocket Cruiser Project PRICE: Free | Optional Outboard Motor $1,000 and Custom Trailer $5,000 | Location: Brunswick, GA After selling my Pearson Triton Atom, that had carried me through two circumnavigations, a trade-in deal left me with another 1965 Triton sitting in my driveway. Upon delivery I discovered this boat needs a lot of work and upgrades, so we’re offering it basically for free with the option to buy the almost new outboard motor for $1,000 and the custom trailer it’s sitting on for $5,000. In this video, I walk through the possibilities of refitting a classic Alberg designed pocket cruiser that is in mostly bare-bones condition—and what it takes to get an offshore-capable hull back on the water. It might be a good opportunity for someone willing to put in the sweat equity to finish fitting out this potential classic cruiser to their own requirements. Boat details: 1965 Pearson Triton 28 hull number 624, internal lead ballast, newer fiberglass over wood rudder. Reinforced mast step beam. Custom outboard well mostly finished. Includes Atomic 4 inboard engine in unknown condition. Optional 2025 Tohatsu 6 HP SAIL PRO Outboard Motor Model SPROUL, that can be purchased separately. Included equipment (some not installed): Full batten mainsail in good condition and three jibs in poor condition. Older standing and running rigging. Harken roller furler is damaged, three small anchors and two rodes, bimini, two Lewmar self-tailing sheet winches with winch handles, new depth sounder, new VHF radio and antenna, ST2000 tillerpilot in unknown condition, flexible boarding ladder, fenders and mooring lines, spare portlight, Bomar aluminum footwell access hatch, movable cockpit compass, spare switch panel, four 10-inch mooring cleats, Portable camp stove, electric bilge pump, choice of new 12 volt lead acid battery or older lithium battery, solar charge controller. Unfinished projects or repairs needed: Harken roller furler is broken and furling jib has two small tears. Wood cockpit coamings have some rot and need replacing. Some wood needs revarnishing. Needs exterior paint, antifouling and some interior paint. Three replacement portlights have been dry-fit but require installation with sealant and three other need new rubber gaskets. Atomic 4 gas inboard engine needs removal. Needs one new lifeline turnbuckle. Needs new running lights and general rewiring and upgrading of 12-volt system. Some outboard well panels need to be fiberglassed in place. Galley foot pump and water hose need installation. Tillerpilot needs testing and plug wired to power. Needs new mast wiring including VHF antenna wire. Wood cabin sole is water damaged and delaminated and should be replaced. Sheet blocks are old style and should be upgraded. Two light fixtures have missing bulbs. Toilet does not have holding tank but a toilet bucket is included. Door between salon and head is missing but there is a door included that needs resizing. I did not see any deck fittings leaking but there likely are some leaks. Trailer Specs: Dual-axle heavy-duty 2021 transport trailer configured for boats up to about 31 feet and 10,000 lb displacement. Includes spare tire and boat straps. Allows you to skip yard fees, haul her directly to your driveway, work on your own schedule, or transport her overland to new cruising grounds. Six months ago, he was sleeping in his car with almost nothing left. Today, he wakes up on his own sailboat in the Caribbean. This emotional sailing documentary follows one man’s journey from losing his job and apartment to finding deckhand work, learning to sail, restoring an old boat, and taking his first solo voyage. It is not a story about an easy life. It is a story about starting again when everything feels lost. If you are going through a difficult time, remember: rock bottom does not have to be the end of your story. What would you do if you had to rebuild your life from nothing? Share your thoughts in the comments, and comment “STRONG” if you have ever had to start over. #LifeTransformation #InspirationalStory #SailingDocumentary #CaribbeanSailing #FromHomelessToSailing
I finally make the move into a larger shop where I can function more efficiently and stop tripping over myself!
This Saturday morning at approximately 04:30 UTC, while racing at night at around 25 knots in 16 knots of wind at approximately 40°N, 54°W in the North Atlantic on Day 3 of The Ocean Race Atlantic, Team Malizia’s crew, skippered by Boris Herrmann, informed its shore team that an impact to the port foil of Malizia 4 likely involving a small marine mammal or large fish had resulted in a technical issue with the foil ram. All crew members are safe, and there seems to be no structural damage to either the foil or the yacht. The crew had stopped the boat to assess the situation and determine whether a full, potentially long and complex repair was required or whether a temporary fix could be carried out on board. The crew has now managed to find a solution and has successfully secured the foil ram in place. Two fasteners were installed from the sail locker side to lock the ram in position, and the ram was additionally lashed to prevent any movement. The foil is safely resting on its bumpers and is no longer moving. While saddened by the encounter, both the crew on board and the shore team are relieved to have found a solution allowing Malizia 4 to race at full speed again. They will carry out additional checks in daylight to confirm the structural condition of the foil and will continue to monitor the situation closely. Can you do the Great Loop for $20,000? In this episode of Practical Sailor, we build a complete budget Great Loop boat plan and ask how cheaply you could buy a used boat, prepare it, equip it, and actually complete the roughly 6,000-mile Great Loop route. We look at the best boats for the Great Loop, how small a Great Loop boat can safely be, sailboats vs. powerboats, inboard diesel engines, shallow draft, bridge clearance, mast height, fuel range, locks, motoring speed, safety equipment, repairs, navigation and the real cost of getting an older boat ready for long-distance cruising. If you’re researching how much the Great Loop costs, the cheapest way to do the Great Loop, what size boat you need for the Great Loop, the best used boat for the Great Loop, Great Loop sailboats, Great Loop powerboats, Great Loop routes, Great Loop bridge and draft restrictions, or how to buy a boat for the Great Loop, this episode is for you. We’ll also explain why buying a freshwater boat around the Great Lakes may be one of the smartest ways to start, what to look for in a reliable marine diesel, and how we’d choose an affordable Catalina, Hunter, Pearson, O’Day, Cape Dory, Albin or similar cruising boat that could make the trip and still have resale value when the adventure is over. #greatloop #GreatLoopBoats #BoatBuying #UsedBoats #Sailboat #Boating #Liveaboard #Cruising #PracticalSailor Practical Sailor is your trusted resource for reviews of sailboats and sailing gear. https://www.practical-sailor.com Chat with us on Facebook! https://www.facebook.com/PracticalSailor/

In this episode, we have just one day to explore the incredible island of Niue before a forecast westerly turns our plans upside down. Ordered off the moorings and sent to shelter on the island's eastern side, we set off on a challenging passage to nowhere—a club no sailor wants to join, but one the weather chooses for you. #sailing #sailinglife #cruisinglife #liveaboard #boatlife #sailboat #catamaran #niue #southpacific #oceanlife #adventuretravel #worldcruising #sailingaroundtheworld #offgridliving #boatyard #anchorage #paradise #travelvlog #yachtlife #sailingyoutube NEW TO OUR CHANNEL? We are Eileen and Brown Councill. Welcome to our channel and a glimpse into our life adventure! 2020 was a year of uncertainty and change (for all of us, right?), but we overcame the challenges and decided it was time to chase our dream, to sail around the world! Did I mention that we had very NO sailing experience? Before leaving Qingdao, China, our home of 4 years, we sold almost all of our earthly possessions and started our international search to find the right sailboat that we would call "home." After 5 months of unanticipated twists and turns, we found what we were looking for, a used Leopard 44' Catamaran located in St. Lucia. So, here begins our journey, filled with unmatched excitement and honestly, a bit of trepidation as well. We have much to learn as we travel the world on our floating home and we intend to document that journey and share it with you. We are so glad you have decided to join us, and we hope that you will find our story so compelling that it will inspire you to chase your dreams too! We will do our best to answer every correspondence! All we ask is that you have patience with us as we work really hard to improve our camera/video techniques and ability to tell a story. Could I really live in another country? After everything that has happened, I find myself asking that question while spending a beautiful, peaceful day at Dauin Beach in the Philippines. The water is warm. The snorkeling is incredible. Life feels remarkably simple. For a little while, there is no crisis to solve and no place I need to be. Just the ocean, the beach, and the thought that maybe a life like this could actually become my life. Is this what starting over looks like? But at my age? At 68 is it too late to start over again? This is another chapter of my journey — one man trying to figure out what comes next, where he belongs, and whether it is possible to build a completely different life. Welcome to *Starting Over*.
What will actually decide winners and losers in America's Cup design? A technical deep dive with a designer who's free to say what the teams can't. Juan Kouyoumdjian is one of the world's top authorities on yacht design. He's spent 30 years designing winning round-the-world boats and working on America's Cup projects. Right now he isn't attached to a Cup team, so for once there's nothing stopping him talking. Niall Myant-Best asks him: • Which of the reused AC75 hulls has a head start, and which team faces an uphill battle? • Why the hull isn't a hull any more, but a fuselage built to make the sails work harder? • Where the real gains sit in foil deformation, and the new wording in the rule that more than one team will be trying to exploit? • How far you can push automated sail trim before the human in the loop becomes the limit? • The piece of technology he thinks would be decisive in Naples, that nobody appears to have built yet. Highlights from the 50th-anniversary RORC Round Britain and Ireland Race 2026—1,805 nautical miles around Britain and Ireland and one of offshore sailing’s greatest challenges. Featuring spectacular onboard footage, drone images from the start in Cowes, interviews with competitors before and after the race, and the story of overall winner Pace, this film captures the winners, the survivors and some of the extraordinary moments from the 2026 race. 32 boats. 182 sailors from five continents. 1,805 nautical miles. One epic race, held every four years. For more than two weeks, the fleet raced around one of offshore sailing’s most demanding courses: Land’s End, the wild west coast of Ireland, St Kilda and Muckle Flugga, before turning south into the navigational challenge of the North Sea and English Channel. The competitors faced Atlantic lows, wind holes, big seas and glassy calms. Boats surfed at more than 25 knots and, at other times, crews were forced to kedge at anchor against the tide. Sails were repaired, a boom shattered and sailors were pushed mentally and physically by fatigue. There were also unforgettable encounters with wildlife—including an owl that became one of the unexpected stars of the race. From Monohull Line Honours and the overall IRC victory for Johnny Vincent’s Volvo 70 Pace, to battles throughout the IRC classes and extraordinary stories from across the fleet, this is a taste of what it takes to race non-stop around Britain and Ireland. #SailingOffline #Segeln #Mallorca #Ibiza #Torrevieja #Sailing #Segelboot #Balearen #Spanien
These are common problems we spot on boats all over the world. In this case, the pump was installed the wrong way around, causing it to pump air into the boat. A hand pump is also crucial in the event of a gas leak. We prefer using it to pump fuel out because it eliminates the risk of sparks, which could otherwise ignite the gas and cause an explosion
⛵ Topaz Magno | 3,94 m | 7 Beaufort | Ostsee #Shorts #Segeln #TopazMagno #Kenterung #Kentern #Jollensegeln #Ostsee #7Beaufort #KielSchilksee #KielerFörde #KielerBucht #Gleitjolle #Sailing #DinghySailing
Naviguer. Bouger. Visiter.

We depart Nunucan for Maratua, a remote Indonesian island in the Celebes Sea. I navigate through miles of netting and some choppy seas and currents. We heave-too overnight offshore in order to sail through a difficult pass in daylight. We scuba dive at some amazing reefs and encounter sharks, eagle rays, a turtle and barracuda tornado! I beach the catamaran on a sandbar to clean the marine growth off the bottom. Ann-Elin tries making pickles for the first time. A small detail that makes a big difference on the water. At the Perth Boat Show, PG takes us aboard the new Saxdor 400 GTS to demonstrate the telescopic swim ladder fitted by Saxdor at factory level. What sets this ladder apart is the integrated pop-up handrail system. As the ladder is deployed, the handles rise into position, giving you a secure point to hold as you climb out of the water. It is a simple design feature, but an important one for both ease of use and safety, whether you are swimming, diving or need to reboard unexpectedly. Available in a range of lengths, widths and mounting configurations, including under-platform, in-platform and top-mounted options, the system can be specified to suit a wide variety of vessels. Beautifully engineered and made in Italy, it is marine hardware designed to make life onboard safer and easier. Come and see PG and the Gineico Marine team at the Perth Boat Show to take a closer look. @perthboatshow @bia__wa @saxdoryachts https://zurl.co/NPMDV #GineicoMarine #PerthBoatShow #Saxdor #Saxdor400GTS #MarineHardware #SwimLadder #MarineEquipment #ItalianMade #BoatDesign #MarineSafety #BoatingAustralia #AustralianMarineIndustry

— Over the past few years, I sailed 7,150 km through the Mediterranean. Only after revisiting Homer’s Odyssey and comparing its legendary route with my own did I realize that I had sailed past many places associated with the epic. The exact locations of the Sirens, the Cyclops and Calypso are still debated. But approaching these islands, cliffs and straits from the sea helped me understand why ancient sailors imagined monsters, gods and giants here. This is Episode 1 of Sailing Into The Odyssey—a series exploring the real Mediterranean landscapes behind the myth.
