► This week, we’re taking you to the British Virgin Islands for seven days of family sailing aboard a Moorings 5000 (Leopard 50). ► On the itinerary: Tortola, Cooper Island, Saba Rock, Virgin Gorda, Jost Van Dyke, and Anegada… Exploring these islands and anchorages means short sails of one to three hours per day, except for a beautiful longer crossing to Anegada, a flat coral island set slightly apart from the rest of the archipelago. As for the crew, while Charlotte is already an experienced young sailor, it’s a first for Mahé and Marceau! Also on board: Aude, Joffrey, Laurie, Quentin, Pierre-Yves… and me, Maria. A true nine-person adventure, filled with time under sail, laughter at anchor, and the logistics of life as a floating tribe. ► We’ll also be sharing our sailing experience aboard the Moorings 5000: seaworthiness, cabin comfort, the layout of the convivial galley, how the outdoor spaces work for children… We’ll tell you whether this catamaran is truly well designed for family cruising. ► Sign up for our newsletter and win a free two-month subscription to Multihulls World by clicking here: https://bit.ly/48JP1Vk ► Become a FREE SUBSCRIBER to Multihulls World's YouTube page now - https://www.youtube.com/c/MultihullsWorld ► Log on to our website to discover over 600 multihulls tests! 24 hours before we were supposed to leave for Antigua… everything changed. What started as a concern turned into a hospital admission and suddenly we weren’t sure if this trip was happening at all. With one of us in a hospital room and the rest of us facing a decision, we had to choose:Cancel everything… or keep moving forward. This week’s episode takes us from uncertainty and concern to volcano views, cobblestone streets, and early mornings. Sometimes travel doesn’t go as planned.

► With nearly 20 knots of easterly breeze and a short, choppy sea, conditions were perfect to put Aquila’s very first sailing catamaran through its paces. At the helm, our journalist Brieuc Maisonneuve comfortably pushed the boat beyond 8 knots. ► The 50 Sail is unmistakably an Aquila. The brand’s signature bar, seamlessly linking the aft cockpit to the saloon, stands out as a defining feature. Beyond its soft, rounded lines and elongated hull windows, the model also borrows an innovative concept from Aquila’s powercat range: direct access to the flybridge from the foredeck. Elegantly integrated steps, complemented by a refined handrail, create a fluid and natural connection between these two living areas. Several elements reveal the brand’s powerboat heritage: a dedicated tender crane system, an impressively spacious owner’s suite, generously appointed heads, and private access to each cabin. The interior styling enhances the sense of luxury, with carefully selected materials such as sophisticated curtains, leather detailing, and rug in the saloon. Notably, traditional side walkways have been replaced by predominantly open living spaces, reinforcing the boat’s contemporary feel. Yet the true revelation lies in the Aquila 50 Sail’s performance under sail. The builder has equipped the boat with a genuine interior chart table - standard across the sailing range - and an outstanding flybridge helm station. The centrally positioned wheel, flanked by winches with control lines led to either side, offers excellent ergonomics and exceptional visibility, ensuring confident and enjoyable sailing. ► Technical specifications Builder: Aquila Boats Length: 49’1” (14.97 m) Beam: 25’9” (7.86 m) Draft: 3’4” (1.7 m) Air draft: 82’6” (25.15 m) Light displacement: 50,600 lbs (24 t) Mainsail: 968/1,037 sq ft (90/96.4 m²) Motors: 2 x 50 kW or 2 x 50/60/75 HP Fuel: 222 US gal (865 l) Water: 232 US gal (880 l) CE Certification: A12/B12/C20/D30 Base price: US$ 1,391,000 ex-tax Boat Show special price: US$ 1,900,000 ex-tax ► Sign up for our newsletter and win a free two-month subscription to Multihulls World by clicking here: https://bit.ly/48JP1Vk ► Become a FREE SUBSCRIBER to Multihulls World's YouTube page now - https://www.youtube.com/c/MultihullsWorld ► Log on to our website to discover over 600 multihulls tests! Step aboard MANA, a 2024 Excess 14 that’s been set up the right way for owners who actually want to sail and cruise off grid. The Excess platform (VPLP design) is known for delivering more helm feel and sailing efficiency than most production cats in this size range, and this boat leans into that with the Tall Rig “Pulse Line” package, a clean deck layout, and serious short handed capability. Where MANA really separates herself is the energy and autonomy package. A 990Ah Victron lithium bank, Victron inverter and management, and over 2000W of solar make this a true no generator cruising setup by design. Add Starlink Gen 2, a 50 LPH watermaker, washer dryer, and full boat air conditioning (3 units, 5 zones), and you’ve got a late model performance cruising cat that’s properly equipped to live aboard and roam. She’s currently in Sint Maarten, which is a perfect launch point for immediate Caribbean cruising, or a proven staging base if you’re thinking bigger passages. In this episode hired a car, drove from Katakolon to Olympia, we explored the birthplace of the Olympic Games, stood before Hermes and the Infant Dionysus, and raced the original 192.27m Olympic stadium track where ancient athletes once competed for nothing but an olive wreath. We dived into Olympic history (sacred truces, cheeky cheaters, and the famous Zanes of Zeus), then discovered the brilliant Archimedes Museum — home to wild inventions and genius ideas ahead of their time. Back at sea, we sailed to Zakynthos, spotted a shy turtle in “Turtle Bay,” passed beneath the mighty Rio–Antirrio Bridge, explored beautiful Nafpaktos, and finally dropped anchor in stunning Trizonia to ride out the weather and reunite with friends. https://www.facebook.com/fivegosailing https://www.instagram.com/fivegosailing If you are able and would like to support us we have a 'buy us an ice-cream' page here is the link: https://ko-fi.com/fivegosailing

It's been the most stormy winter in Portugal for a very long time. We are at anchor in a flooded muddy river hunkering down and trying to get some rigging done in the lulls between the storms. These are just some of the challenges of the cruising lifestyle. We have a lot of running rigging to replace before we can go sailing and we can't make water in the muddy river so have to go to a marina for water. So, how will the new Bruntons prop do with the manoeuvring in the marina especially as I completely miss read the conditions and mess up the approach? Forbidden Knowledge? How to Survive Anywhere Using Only Plants 🌿 What if the pharmacy and the grocery store were replaced by the forest floor? Inspired by the book "The Last Wild Island," we journeyed to Tetepare—the largest uninhabited island in the South Pacific—to document a vanishing way of life. Under the guidance of our local expert, Towomy, we went deep into the primary rainforest to learn the ancient secrets of the Solomon Islands. From "Natural Wound Glue" that can close a deep cut, to a plant so powerful it is used to help regrow broken bones, the biodiversity here is a living medical journal. But it’s not just about healing; it’s about survival. We discover how to find water in a pinch, how to forage for wild food, and the traditional customs that have protected these people for centuries—including the eerie "Sea Spirit Deterrents" and the history of the headhunting spears. This isn't just a travel vlog; it’s a tribute to the conservation battle to keep this virgin rainforest standing and a look at the wisdom we lose when these forests disappear. Another day of incredibly tough racing conditions during the 2025-26 season couldn’t stop the reigning world 18ft skiff champion Yandoo team of John Winning Jr, Fang Warren and Lewis Brake from scoring a hard-fought victory in the Australian 18 Footers League’s Season Point Score Race 19 on Sydney Harbour today. In light SE winds which dropped to near zero for a good section of the long course, Yandoo outlasted the gallant crew (Joel Beashel, Trent Barnabas and Andy Martin) of the German Black Knight skiff to cross the finish line with a winning margin of 28s. The youngest crew in the fleet (Ben Crafoord, Ryan Ewings and Max Nearn) produced probably their best race since joining the 18s this season to bring Rag & Famish Hotel home in third place 2m6s behind Black Knight. Australian champion Balmain (Henry Larkings) finished in fourth place, ahead of Brisbane’s Big Foot Bags & Covers (Dave Hayter) and fast-finishing Lazarus Capital Partners (Tom Cunich). The race began in just 5knots of breeze with the leaders in the fleet splitting into two separate groups, each side of Shark Island, as they headed for the weather mark off the southern end of the island. Yandoo’s crew, which went to the LHS grabbed a 20s break over Rag & Famish Hotel and Black Knght, which both went to the RHS, and the trio set up what would become a great three-way battle for more than half the course. The Yandoo crew did some running repairs on the long spinnaker run across the harbour to Robertson Point but managed to retain a 20s break over their nearest rival, which was now Black Knight. Rag & Famish was thirs ahead Of Big Foot, Balmain, The Kitchen Maker (Lachlan Steel), and Shaw and Partners Financial Services (Keagan York). A slight change of wind direction on the beat to Clark Island allowed Black Knight to take advantage of the RHS of the course and grab a 40s break over Yandoo and Rag & Famish Hotel as spinnakers were set for the run to Chowder Bay. The first part of the run produced a good, close spinnaker battle between the two leaders before the wind dropped and created massive problems to the leaders as well as half the which were left spread across the harbour. In little breeze, Black Knight finally rounded the Chowder Bay mark with a 30s advantage over Yandoo with Rag & Famish just 15s further back in third place. The following leg into the weather mark south of Shark Island was slow as the leaders struggled to find breeze until they cleared Steel Point. The Black Knight crew were first to pick up the breeze but the experienced Yandoo team elected to go futher to the LHS of the course and reduced the margin back to 20s and the challenge was back on. Unfortunately for the young Rag team, they went closer to Shark Island and didn’t get the ‘lift’ and dropped off the three-way battle after a great effort to match their more experienced opponents. On the loop across to Taylor’s Bay (under spinnaker) and back to the weather mark off Shark Island, Black Knight held a 7s lead over Yandoo and the pair of champion crews produced an exciting race in ‘ordinary’ conditions. The final spinnaker to Robertson Point was going to be critical to both teams as they raced alongside each other for most of the run before Yandoo finally ‘rolled over’ Black Knight and headed for the finish line off Clark Island with a narrow lead of just 4s. With more breeze, now around 10-knots, Yandoo’s crew revelled in the conditions and eased away from the Black Knight to record their 28s victory in the race which took 1hr27m35s to complete. A peaceful but powerful sail along Long Island, Bahamas. In this episode, I leave Clarence Town and sail north along the entire length of Long Island to Calabash Bay — about 45 nautical miles of changing winds, currents, and open water. With steady following winds reaching 25–27 knots, the boat settles into her rhythm. Autopilot locked on waypoints, sails trimmed, generator running, water being made — sometimes it’s best to just let the boat work and enjoy the journey. The weather is shifting. Cooler air from the north, darker skies, and a stronger system coming in a couple of days. Choosing the right anchorage becomes important — protection matters out here. Along the way, I reflect on: Route planning and navigation Wind and sail decisions Life aboard during longer passages Upcoming plans for the Exumas and George Town No rush. No drama. Just honest sailing in the Bahamas. If you enjoy real sailing, thoughtful navigation, and life at sea — you’re in the right place. 🌊⛵

Copyright The Art of Noise „ Moments in Love“ The Tōdai-ji (Eastern Great Temple), located in Nara, Japan, is a UNESCO World Heritage site and home to the world's largest bronze statue of the Buddha Vairocana, known as the Daibutsu. Completed in 752, this massive complex and its Great Buddha Hall (Daibutsuden)—one of the world's largest wooden buildings—symbolized a massive national effort to promote Buddhism. Interesting Curiosities and Facts: * Massive Construction Effort:Building the Daibutsu nearly bankrupted Japan in the 8th century, requiring approximately 2.6 million people to contribute to its creation. * The Daibutsu's Size: The seated Buddha is nearly 15 meters (49 feet) tall, with ears 2.54 meters in length. * Rebuilt Smaller: Although the Daibutsuden is still immense, the current building (rebuilt in 1709) is only about two-thirds the size of the original 8th-century structure. * Symbolic Pillars: Inside the hall, there is a wooden pillar with a hole through its base, which is said to be the same size as the Daibutsu's nostril. Visitors believe passing through this hole brings enlightenment. * Sacred Deer: The temple grounds are filled with free-roaming, semi-wild deer considered messengers of the gods in the Shinto religion. * Unique Artifacts: In front of the hall stands an octagonal bronze lantern from the 8th century, which features rare, ancient carvings. * Government Influence: The temple was so powerful in the 8th century that the Japanese capital was moved from Nara to Nagaoka to reduce the monks' influence over government

We spent a cozy rainy weekend at the marina cooking a romantic Valentine’s dinner on our sailboat. Duck, octopus, escargot, wine and candlelight — this is the sailboat lifestyle we dreamed about. There’s something special about rain on deck and warm lights in the galley. Instead of going out for Valentine’s Day, we stayed aboard and made honey balsamic glazed duck, sautéed octopus and escargot with Brussels sprouts, and baked brie with raspberry pecan topping. This is what cozy sailboat living looks like — even on a lake. If you dream about liveaboard life, marina living, cooking on a boat, or creating a romantic boat lifestyle without living on the ocean, you’re in the right place.
