Is this the ultimate owner-operator yacht for the Pacific Northwest? In this episode of YachtLens, we are in Seattle aboard the Horizon V68—a 70-foot skylounge motoryacht that feels closer to a 100-foot superyacht. I’m joined by Eli Arvidson from Horizon Yachts to break down why this vessel is specifically spec'd for serious cruising in the PNW. From the massive glass sections that bring the outside in, to the fully enclosed skylounge that acts as a second salon, we explore how this boat balances luxury with the practical realities of running a boat yourself. We also dive deep into the engine room to check out the twin CAT C18 ACERTs and ask the hard questions about range, build quality, and system redundancy. If you are looking for a yacht that a couple can handle comfortably from Seattle to Alaska, this walkthrough is for you. ⚓ Horizon V68 Specs & Info: https://horizonyacht.com/models/v/v68 ⚓ Horizon Yachts: https://horizonyacht.com CONTACT ELI ARVIDSON: For inquiries about the V68 or Horizon Yachts in the PNW: 📧 Email: eli@horizonyachtusa.com 📞 Horizon Yacht USA: +1 206-649-0253 SUBSCRIBE TO YACHTLENS: Don't miss our next honest yacht tour. Discovery lives in every scale. Some treasures are found by looking closer, in the quiet patience of muck dives where rare critters reveal themselves grain by grain. Others appear when you step back, as reefs rise wide and alive with colour and motion. Within the heart of the Coral Triangle, this is diving as it truly is layered, surprising and endlessly rewarding, inviting you to slow down, look closer and rediscover just how much there is to see. https://solitude.world/solitude-lembeh-resort/
Anchor Swivels: Caution Required: http://practical-sailor.com/sails-rigging-deckgear/anchor-swivels-caution-required Anchor swivels are everywhere. They’re shiny, expensive, and sold as a “must-have” upgrade for your anchoring system. But do they actually solve a real problem… or do they quietly introduce a dangerous new failure point? In this video, we dig into what reputable marine testing and real-world failures reveal about anchor swivels. We look at how and why swivels fail, what problems they’re supposed to fix, and whether most sailors actually need one at all. We’ll break down common swivel failure modes, side-loading issues, corrosion risks, and why many chain-twist problems are caused by retrieval technique, not missing hardware. You’ll also learn when a swivel might make sense, when it probably doesn’t, and what safer alternatives exist. If you anchor regularly, rely on your ground tackle for safety, or are considering adding an anchor swivel to your boat, this is one piece of gear you’ll want to understand before it fails. I showed up thinking I had a decent handle on how this phase of the build would go. By the end of the day, I realized how much I didn’t know—and how fast a good crew can move when they know exactly what they’re doing. This episode is mostly me trying to keep up, asking a lot of questions, and learning more in one day than I ever have about how a building actually comes together. The guys were patient, funny, and incredibly skilled, and watching the load-bearing walls of the first floor go up this fast made the project feel real in a way it hadn’t yet. Huge thanks to the crew who helped make this happen — links to everyone involved below. A continuation of the journey from Anacortes in October/November 2025. We depart Ensenada and still off for a few days in Magdelena Bay to experience a cornucopia of sea life experiences. We repair some electrical issues and meet up with a number of other Nordhavns for the 2025 Taco Run. Only we choose our own weather window. We left 2 days after the fleet and also stayed longer in Magdalena Bay to enjoy the area. Don't follow the crowd, follow your dreams. While cruising together is fun, it just did not fit our plan and read on the weather at the time.
We’ve been anchored in South Huahine for over a month and explored nearly every corner of the bay by snorkel—from Motu Vaiorea in the northwest to the reef at the Southern tip of the island. In this video, we share every snorkel spot we visited, what marine life we saw, and which ones became our favorites. #SouthHuahine #Snorkeling #FrenchPolynesia #UnderwaterAdventure #LagoonSnorkel #TropicalFish #CoralReef #SailingLife #OceanExploration #MarineLife #TravelVlog #SnorkelGuide #IslandAdventure #BlownAwaySailing #adventuretravel NEW TO OUR CHANNEL? We are Eileen and Brown Councill. Welcome to our channel and a glimpse into our life adventure! 2020 was a year of uncertainty and change (for all of us, right?), but we overcame the challenges and decided it was time to chase our dream, to sail around the world! Did I mention that we had very NO sailing experience? Before leaving Qingdao, China, our home of 4 years, we sold almost all of our earthly possessions and started our international search to find the right sailboat that we would call "home." After 5 months of unanticipated twists and turns, we found what we were looking for, a used Leopard 44' Catamaran located in St. Lucia. So, here begins our journey, filled with unmatched excitement and honestly, a bit of trepidation as well. We have much to learn as we travel the world on our floating home and we intend to document that journey and share it with you. We are so glad you have decided to join us, and we hope that you will find our story so compelling that it will inspire you to chase your dreams too! As a viewer, we consider you to be part of our family and look forward to getting to know you. Don't hesitate to comment on our videos and ask questions. We will do our best to answer every correspondence! All we ask is that you have patience with us as we work really hard to improve our camera/video techniques and ability to tell a story. Hopefully, you will be as BLOWN AWAY from watching, as we are in experiencing and producing our adventures! HOW CAN YOU SUPPORT US? ► We featured the Gunboat 72 in our test in Multihulls World #193; we find hull #2 here in Saint Martin: it's the largest multihull entered in the 2026 Caribbean Multihull Challenge. ► Layla, as she's called, is now a regular at the event… and so is her skipper. Our man is none other than Brian Thompson – the only British sailor to have completed four non-stop circumnavigations of the globe. ► The skipper, who warmed up by crossing the Atlantic in just 5 days aboard the MOD70 Argo, finds himself at the helm of a much heavier multihull, of course… Nevertheless, he positions his 72-foot vessel like a Hobie Cat, not hesitating to tack at the starting line. ► While the lighter multihulls managed to regain the lead in real time, it was still Layla that emerged victorious in corrected time at the awards ceremony that evening. We continue west towards the coast. We end up at Fort Kochi, which is a very famous place. We take a good look around and stay in a wonderful little hotel. We find a great place to eat and have a pizza! We’ve had quite a few weeks of eating India food and it’s time for a break. We take a ride on a country boat but it fails in the middle of the massive channel, with ferries and large boats passing us. We end up on one of the ferries to get back to where we started! It’s quite an experience! Then it’s of to pick up our beautiful Kerala houseboat and spend a night out on the water. It’s wonderful. We also manage to get on another country boat and have a chance to see the smaller waterways of this beautiful place. That wraps up our drive across India. It’s then a quick flight to New Delhi for a day or to and onto London for new adventures… Thanks for watching.
Sailing to Darwin, finally! We've been waiting for this for a while now. Dont get me wrong, we've really enjoyed our last few months exploring the Papuan coast and all its wonderful hidden treasures. It is truly a gem and so surprising to us the with its near proximity to Australia its not visited by more cruisers. We had decided 6 months before that we'd had enough of Indonesia and would sail to Darwin and discovered that its pretty hard to enjoy today while yearning for tomorrow. The passage from Saumlaki south to Darwin is only around 350nm and we covered that in 44hrs. One of our most relaxed passages really. Enjoy. Is sailing really dying? The numbers don't lie. Sailboat sales are plummeting, marinas are prioritizing powerboats, and new sailors are quitting faster than ever before. But why? Is it just a shift in trends, or is modern life incompatible with the slow art of sailing? In this video, we investigate the 5 Brutal Reasons why nobody wants sailboats in 2026: The Need for Speed: Why modern boaters refuse to sail at 5 knots. The Convenience Trap: How powerboats offer instant gratification. The Lost Romance: Why adventure isn't enough to sell boats anymore. The "Quit" Factor: Why the learning curve is driving new sailors away. Marina Evictions: How sailboats are being pushed out of slips for profit. We finally did it — our major solar upgrade on our liveaboard sailboat is complete, and it’s time for the real test. In this episode of our liveaboard sailing journey around the world, we leave the marina behind for an overnighter at anchor to see how our new off-grid solar power system performs in real cruising conditions. No shore power, no marina hookups — just renewable energy, the open water, and life on a cruising sailboat. This is a huge milestone for us as liveaboard sailors preparing to sail the world, because this solar installation was the last major boat upgrade before we begin longer passages and remote anchoring. If you're into sailing, sailboats, cruising life, boat projects, marine solar, or off-grid living, this episode shows what modern cruising sailboat life really looks like — the work behind the scenes and the freedom it creates. After weeks of boat jobs and upgrades, we finally get to enjoy the reward: dropping anchor, swimming off the boat, exploring, and spending quality time with friends. This is the lifestyle so many dream about — full-time sailing, living on a boat, slow travel by sailboat, and ocean adventure — balanced with the practical side of maintaining and upgrading a cruising yacht. Whether you're a beginner sailor, experienced cruiser, future liveaboard, or just love watching boat life and sailing adventures, this video gives a real look at testing a solar-powered sailboat system while enjoying the simple moments that make this lifestyle worth it. We share the reality of liveaboard life, anchoring out, managing power usage, and building confidence in our systems before bigger voyages. Follow along as we move closer to sailing around the world, becoming more self-sufficient, and embracing off-grid cruising. Expect sailing, anchoring, ocean swims, boat life with friends, and the kind of peaceful moments you only get when you choose travel by sailboat. If you love sailing adventures, liveaboard cruising, sailboat life, marine upgrades, and world travel by boat, you’re in the right place. It's been two years since our first sail in @SailingAstridTheWombat actually that means it's been two years since our first sail ever. That's right two years ago we bought this Beneteau Oceanis 430 and pulled the sails up for the first time ever when we brought her home. A sail that stretched 700 nautical miles from Townsville in Far North Queensland Australia to Moreton Bay in Brisbane Queensland. Each experience we have and each new sailing skill learnt just keeps bringing us closer to taking off to sail around the world in our Beneteau Oceanis 430 @SailingAstridTheWombat living our boat life dream. We are Gav and Shezz an Aussie couple with a dream to sail and scuba dive around the world. We bought our Beneteau Oceanis 430 in October 2023 with zero sailing experience but the belief that we can do this. We have filmed our journey from looking for boats, buying the boat and downsizing our house so we can liveaboard and all the messy wonderful life stuff in between. Join us now as we settle into liveaboard life and get our boat ready to take off and sail around the world. As new sailors we want to share all of our learnings and keep it real in our videos. We want to show step by step what it takes to choose a boat, buy the boat and learn how to sail. Our sailing learning curve is steep so come along with us as we learn and grow as liveaboard sailors. We promise you will have a laugh! Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Canon R50 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Back up is a Canon 200d. Action scenes and small blogging is done with an Insta 360 Ace2. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera. I also use an Insta 360 and have two drones, a Magic mini2 and Mavic pro Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over several days. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have limited communications with the outside World. A stable boat does not mean a safe boat. If you’re a beginner sailor, future cruiser, or deciding between a catamaran and monohull, this is a video you need to hear before you buy. Stability is comfort. Skill is survival. 👍 Like & subscribe if you want honest sailing content without the marketing fluff. ⛵ I’m documenting my journey to get on the water and helping beginners avoid expensive and dangerous mistakes along the way. ⏱️ Timestamps 00:00 – Intro 00:12 – What stability actually is (and isn’t) 01:26 – Stability doesn’t fix bad decisions 04:21 – What stability does NOT protect you from 07:46 – What actually keeps you alive at sea 11:00 – The dark side of stability and false invincibility 13:02 – Final thoughts + next video recommendation

That was a very close call from the Catamaran that tried to take our line during the entrance back to Alimos Marina Friday afternoon. Thanks to my Insta360 Camera I managed to review the video afterwards and to share it with you. Enjoy!!

Buon vento, Elena e Filippo
