In this week's episode, I go back to my first sail with my new custom sails from Point Sails of San Diego. In 2022, Point Sails built a custom severe weather (80%) jib for my Precision 18. So with my OEM sails getting baggy, I decided to have them build a new custom mainsail and 100% working jib as well. My new sails are made from a heavier 6oz Dacron for the heavy mountain winds I sail in. The mainsail has 2 reefing points, 4 battens, a custom logo and custom blue and white colors. The working jib is a crimson color and includes leech lines and foot lines. Throughout the video I share thoughts and observations about my new sails and sailing in mountain winds in general. The winds on this day were gusting up to 16 mph. Subscribe and follow @ColoradoSailing on YouTube for more original sailing videos, gear, boat maintenance, sailing tips and travel content as I sail my Precision 18 trailer sailer and Precision 16 sailing dinghy in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming and South Dakota. #sailingchannel #coloradosailing #sailing #mountainsailing #extremesports
► Making its world premiere at boot Düsseldorf, the Lasai 32KS is an electric weekender developed by a solar-electric engineering company based in Spain’s Basque Country region. The word “Lasai” means calm and peaceful in the Basque language, and that covers a program that this powercat clearly embodies... without compromising on architectural choices aimed at optimizing overall efficiency. ► Designer Gonzalo Redondo opted for particularly fine hulls, specific propellers, and careful aerodynamics - everything has been conceived to optimize every available kilowatt and ensure smooth and quiet sailing. The carbon coachroof incorporates ultra-flush solar panels. ► The Lasai 32KS is capable of reaching 18 knots thanks to its twin 50 kW pods. And thanks to the high power of its battery bank, the powercat is capable of a range of 80 nautical miles at 10 knots. ► At the stern, there is a large sun-lounging area. Optionally, a small galley can be included underneath. In the center, a space dedicated to socializing is organized around a table that can easily seat six. The helm station incorporates the proprietary energy management interface developed by Lasai. Forward, there is a second sunbathing area. Circulation is provided by just one side-deck, on the starboard side. ► The cabin offers good living space considering the available width (not quite 10 feet/ 3 meters), and this is complemented by a head and shower compartment. The boat is finished to a high standard. ► At the boat show, the Lasai booth was constantly busy and four units have already been pre-ordered. We exchanged contact details so we can organize a sea trial in the very near future. Watch this space... ► Technical Specifications: Builder: Lasai Length overall: 31’8” (9.65 m) Hull length: 29’6” (8.99 m) Beam: 9’10” (2.99 m) Displacement: 5,950 lbs (2.7 t) Motors: 2 x 50 kW Batteries: 126 kWh Solar panels: 1.3 kWp Maximum speed: 18 knots Cruising speed: 10 knots Maximum number of people on board: 12 ► Sign up for our newsletter and win a free two-month subscription to Multihulls World by clicking here: https://bit.ly/48JP1Vk ► Become a FREE SUBSCRIBER to Multihulls World's YouTube page now - https://www.youtube.com/c/MultihullsWorld ► Log on to our website to discover over 600 multihulls tests! If you mostly cruise but you like Wednesday night racing and occasional round-the-buoys competition, this video covers the “sweet spot” in sailing line: rope that gives less stretch and better performance than basic polyester double braid, without the cost of top-end grand-prix lines. We explain what changes in this mid-tier category—typically multi-fiber or performance cores paired with polyester covers designed to handle friction and heat through blocks, winches, and hardware—then we walk through solid examples like Marlow D2 Club, New England Ropes VPC (Vectran core), and Novabraid Polyspec. The new Pardo 43 model looks different from its predecessor. Her lines are softer and fresher, while no fewer than 50 major and minor changes confirm that this is a new generation of the boat. This is a subtly luxurious yacht. She provokes no envy, yet turns heads wherever she goes. The Design Innovation Award 2025 in its category confirms this. We tested the first built unit, powered by twin Volvo IPS 650 engines, last autumn in Saint-Tropez. Pardo 43 is built by the renowned Italian shipyard Cantiere del Pardo. https://more.hr/blog/test-prvog-primjerka-pardo-43/

Is the golden age of cruising over? For decades, the cruising lifestyle meant freedom, cheap living, and beautiful anchorages. But in 2026, that dream is turning into a nightmare for thousands of sailors. From rising crime in "paradise" to aggressive anchoring bans and storms that form overnight, the reality of living on a boat has changed. In this video, we investigate the 5 Massive Factors pushing full-time cruisers to sell their boats and return to land: The Crime Wave: Why dinghy theft and boardings are making anchorages unsafe. The Weather Threat: How unpredictable hurricane seasons are shrinking cruising windows. The War on Anchoring: Why Florida and Caribbean islands are banning cruisers. The Cost Crisis: Why "cheap" liveaboard life is now a myth. The Reality Check: The gap between YouTube cruising and the harsh truth. Is it still worth it? The newly-crowned Australian 18ft skiff champion Balmain team of Henry Larkings, Tom Grimes and Lachlan Pryor continued the winning form from last weekend when they produced an awesome performance in a 10-14-knot North East breeze to win the President’s Trophy Australian 18 Footers League Season Pointscore race on Sydney Harbour today. With their big #1 rig working perfectly, the team grabbed a narrow lead at the weather mark on the second lap of the course and powered away from the fleet on the following spinnaker run down the centre of the course to the bottom mark. From that point the team had total control of the race and went on to score a comfortable victory. At the finish, Balmain defeated Club Marine (Emma Rankin, Brandon Buyink and Jed Cruikshank) by one minute, with Yandoo (Tom Needham, Miles Davey and Lewis Brake) a further 14s back in third place. In a closely-bunched group, Vaikobi (Kirk Mitchell) finished fourth ahead of Killer Coffee Co (Cam McDonald). A gallant Lazarus Capital Partners (Tom Cunich) was next with her smaller #2 rig followed by Shaw and Partners Financial Services (Jordan Girdis), also with the smaller rig. Uncertainty in the rigging area about the likely wind strength of the Nor’Easter sent several crews to their smaller #2 rigs before the start. When the breeze failed to strengthen throughout most of the race, it was a move which proved too costly to overcome. The current Giltinan world champion Yandoo team got off to a poor start and tacked away shortly after the start while the Shaw and Partners team led narrowly from a group which included Vaikobi and Balmain. At the first set of weather marks, Lazarus took advantage of sailing to the blue (shortest) buoy and grabbed the lead from Shaw and Partners and Vaikobi, while Sixt (Jacob Marks) also took advantage of the blue buoy to move into fourth place ahead of Balmain. Despite the disadvantage of running downwind with her #2 rig, Lazarus retained her lead at the wing mark off Shark Island and also overcame a slow spinnaker drop at the bottom mark at Clark Island to still lead the fleet by 10s from Balmain, but with the breeze remaining light it was obvious that Balmain was going to over-power the leader on the following beat to the weather mark. Vaikobi was in third place just ahead of Sixt. Shaw and Partners led the next group which included The Oak Double Bay-4 Pines (Hugo Stoner), Club Marine and Yandoo. Lazarus was impressive in the unfavourable conditions and managed to hold off the strong challenge from the bigger rigged Balmain team, but finally succumbed to the pressure as the pair approached the weather marks where Balmain held a 15s advantage. Balmain has been strong downwind in similar conditions this season and she never looked more impressive than on the following run directly to the Clark Island mark where she had extended her lead to 1m25s. From that point the Australian champion team was in total control and held a 1m15s lead at the final weather mark before cruising home a one minute victor Today’s result sheet and current point scores in the series, along with SailMedia images from today’s racing, are attached. Race 1 next Sunday will be the traditional Queen of the Waves race which will be followed by another 3-buoys pointscore race. The League’s usual spectator ferry will follow the races and SailMedia will live stream all the action with expert commentary from the course. For the first time we hoist our parasail-- a moment that changes how we sail and reminds us why we chose this life. No schedule, no shore power, just wind, water, and aa boat carrying our family forward. Before turning south toward the Windward Passage, we make one last stop at one of our all-time favorite places in The Bahamas. For our family of seven living aboard full-time, this spot has always been special--clear water, incredible spearfishing, quiet beaches, and memories we're not sure we'll ever ex[erience this the same way again. In this episode we spend our days in the water, spearfishing to stock our freezer for the long passage ahead. with freezers full it's time to prepare for the next leg of our journey south to Matthew Town and South to the Windward passage. Thomas Coville and his team aboard the foiling Ultim trimaran Sodebo-3 have set a new non-stop record around the world and in doing so has taken the Jules Verne Trophy. The team's new record pace takes over 12 hours off the previous record and yet impressive though it is, the achievement represents a great deal more. In the closing stages severe weather came close to derailing the campaign and put huge amounts of pressure on the team. Since the record was set in 2017 there have been 13 unsuccessful attempts at beating it, Coville accounted for three of them, that's how hard this record is to achieve and why Coville's success is seen as such a major achievement. But still there is more to this Jules Verne season - This is a story of not one but two campaigns. The second trimaran, IDEC Sport had set the previous record and now known as The Famous Project, was attempting its own non-stop lap. If successful they too would enter the record books as the first ever all women crew to complete a non-stop lap pf the planet. But they too were facing a serious dilemma as to how best to handle the weather that was threatening to block their path at best and derail their entire campaign at worst. So, in part 3 of our Jules Verne coverage we look at how the final stages of the two Jules Verne attempts played out. Sodebo 3 - Crew Thomas Coville - skipper Benjamin Schwartz - co skipper Frédéric Denis Pierre Leboucher Léonard Legrand Guillaume Pirouelle Nicolas Troussel New Record time: 40 days, 10 hours, 45 minutes and 50 seconds

There was both celebration and relief for skipper Alexia Barrier and her crew as they crossed the finish line near Ushant after completing their lap of the globe on Monday 26th January in 57 days, 21 hours and 20 minutes. There were signs of the damage everywhere, with the starboard daggerboard strapped heavily, and the port helm position spray screen missing. The team have been through the wars, and the problems with the mainsail hook, which so almost stopped their voyage as they approached the Cape of Good Hope, being the most major in terms of performance. The mainsail eventually gave out in the North Atlantic, leaving them to sail the final 1000 miles with just the head of that sail hoisted on the boom and then their range of headsails. The conditions off Ushant were still horrendous for their arrival, with high seas left over from Storm Ingrid, and the team came in at pace, even with the reduced sail area. The team have proved incredibly resilient, despite all of the technical setbacks they’ve endured, and completing this first all-female non-stop circumnavigation sets the benchmark for challenges to come. The IDEC Sport trimaran they were on was the same on which Francis Joyon set the previous Jules Verne Trophy record, but that was nine years ago, and the legendary yacht is showing its age, and the team’s decision to slow down at the Azores to miss the worst of Storm Ingrid was, without doubt, the only sensible choice to achieve their goal of reaching the finish line. We take a look at the route they took, and also hear from Dee Caffari as to what their circumnavigation means. #sailing #roundtheworld #worldfirst

Stop trying to buy a "circumnavigation boat." Buy an "education" boat. I recently received an email from Simon, an 18-year-old sailor with a tight budget and a big dream. He said something that most beginners miss: "Ugly is fine. Stuck in a boatyard is not." Buying your first sailboat is where most sailors make their most expensive mistakes. They buy the boat that looks good on Instagram, not the boat that teaches them how to be a Captain. In this video, I’m sharing the advice I wish I had when I started. We’ll talk about: * Why your first boat shouldn't be your "forever" boat. * The trap of the "Perfect Boat" vs. the "Right Boat." * How to build "Dangerous Competence" before you ever cross an ocean. This philosophy is the core of my book, Be The Captain. It’s a field manual for sailors who want to move beyond internet checklists and build real offshore confidence.
