Le lancement du First 60 a eu lieu au Boot de Düsseldorf 2026. L’architecte naval n’est autre que Roberto Biscontini, déjà à l’origine des First 53 et 44. Pour le design intérieur et extérieur, c’est Lorenzo Argento qui s’en charge. Comme c’est désormais la norme chez Beneteau, il est possible de commander ce bateau avec un tirant d’eau et d’air augmenté par un mât plus haut et une quille plus profonde permettant de faire bondir la surface vélique de ce course-croisière. Côté innovation, on retrouve un winch de grand-voile placé sous le cockpit. Si ce système est connu dans le monde des Mini Maxi, c’est du jamais vu sur un 60 pieds. L’avantage principal de ce système est de libérer les winchs du cockpit et que le mou de l’écoute de grand-voile ne vient pas encombrer le pont lorsque celle-ci est bordée. When Alexia Barrier's giant trimaran, The Famous Project crossed the Ushant finishing line off the Brittany coast after 57 days at sea, she and her crew entered the record books. The eight strong crew were now the first all female crew to complete a non-stop circumnavigation. Their initial target was to make an assault on the Jules Verne Trophy for the fastest fully crewed lap of the planet in the trimaran that had set the record that has only just fallen back in 2017. And while they knew this target was ambitious, they were also aiming to set a new reference time for an all female crew. And that is now done. The only previous all female campaign was by Tracy Edwards aboard Royal & Sun Alliance back in 1998 which ended in the Southern Ocean after the cat was dismasted. And when you look at the overall stats for the race it's easy to see what a challenge this has been for anyone that has taken it on. Until 2025 there had been 30 Jules Verne attempts in total and only 14 had successfully circumnavigated the globe. Of these, only 9 had achieved a record. So, as The Famous Project became the 16th to complete the course they entered the record book too. Having followed their progress in our three previous Jules Verne reports, in this episode we look at how their race around the world played out.

An extended camera pan unveiling the hull of MALABAR IV opens this episode– it’s fantastic to note this project commenced one year ago! The team’s hard work and Ben Harris' courageous vision have produced a beautiful shape that is also a credit to American yacht designer John Alden's work. As the video illustrates, this project is presented FOR SALE – now is the perfect opportunity for a buyer to design and build the interior and rig to their specifications. Starting with offering up a spiling batten below the plank above and marking the angle and position of the stem, then marking every station frame (which is every three foot throughout the hull) – transferring that information to a length of yellow cedar (in this case) where he then references a table of data which becomes crucial to the process of starting to shape the timber into a plank. The table of data he references provides the width(s) of each plank at each station (station frames in the hull), data that needs to be marked onto the length of timber that will become a plank. With the data transferred, Ben then ‘springs’ a batten through those data points to provide a fair curve which can then be shaped. He then measures the bevel angle between the frame and the plank at each station - learn more about the bevel strip in the video. With real-world stops-and-starts, including pauses for issues that crop up along the way, we hope this is both relaxing and an informative episode showing more of the process of traditional boatbuilding, and to see John Alden’s MALABAR IV - a 47-foot schooner - come to life. At boot this year I was very much looking for things which brighten up a cold and wet January. The Boards hall was vibrant with plenty of activity going on the pool, including wing foil competition, and here pump foil racing. I loved the bright colours of everything and the energy, which was attracting a young audience into life on the water. The Sailing Yacht halls were dominated by white gelcoat, and looking at the bottom of hulls for the majority of the time didn't seem the best way to show them off. The Woy 26 daysailer really caught my eye. This beautiful wooden planing open dayboat looks like a lot of fun and received a Special Mention from the judges in the Best Specialist Yacht category of the European Yacht of the Year Awards. The boat combines a modern hull with traditional materials and had a striking finish, including a long carbon bowsprit for the asymmetric spinnaker. The combination of old and new here was stunning. The Allen range of fittings is colourful, and they're moving up the sizes, so we took a look at some of their new fittings, while the Baltic Safety Products in the clothing hall were also nice and bright. If you’re looking to race offshore on a budget, then the ALMA Class Globe 580 could be for you. Billed as a ‘one design’ ocean racing mini yacht, you can build the 5.8 metre long boat at home from a pre-cut CNC kit. 15 sailors chose to do exactly that and, racing solo, have completed 24,000 miles of the total 28,000 in the McIntyre Mini Globe Race. Barton had their nifty boom strut on a beautiful Tofinou 9.7 yacht, so I took a closer look at that, and the Clipper stand was nice and busy with people enquiring about the new RX 72 foot yacht, and Sir Robin Knox-Johnston delivered a great talk to a packed audience. The Bundeswehr had a camouflaged windsurfer, wing foil and yacht on show, while Sea Sure's new Rig Gauge Pro has been flying off the shelves, and they've also decided to go up the wire size range to cater for bigger yachts. Finally Birdyfish have brought out the IODA, which is a smaller version of their colourful foiling dinghy.
