► We didn’t manage to catch up with Honda at Metstrade, due to conflicting schedules, but their major new product, a new V6 engine, was unveiled at the show. We finally got to see this new outboard at the Paris Nautic Show with Thomas Delavenne, regional manager of Honda Marine France. ► The engine, available in 200, 225, and 250 horsepower versions, features a completely redesigned look. Understated, more contemporary, and now consistent with the more powerful BF350, the new V6 significantly modernizes the range. While the engine is very attractive, it’s the internal evolution that really makes an impression. Honda has reworked the injection system, which historically could have been improved in certain generations. The result is enhanced acceleration, smoother power and, according to the brand, up to 20% less fuel consumption in certain speed ranges. The exhaust has also been optimized, significantly reducing noise, a sensitive issue on family boats and outboard-powered multihulls. ► Another notable advance is full compatibility with the BF350’s rigging. Controls, wiring harnesses, and electronic logic are harmonized, simplifying original equipment installation and refining twin-engine setups. ► Honda also emphasizes accessories, a feature that Thomas is keen to highlight. The new electronic controls offer a more precise and fluid feel. The electronics now include useful features such as trim support, which automatically adjusts the trim according to speed, and auto-tilt, which raises the engine with a double click without remaining pressed. Inspecting a previous repair on my 2010 Precision 18 sailboat after finishing the sailing season in Colorado. Last year, I noticed my stern horn cleats were loose, the sealant at the deck had been broken, and they needed to be re-bedded. All boats require regular maintenance and re-bedding horn cleats, chain plates and other deck hardware is just a normal part of sailboat maintenance and ownership. Since the factory installation of the horn cleats only used stainless steel washers as backing, I decided to add a 1/2" HDPE board as a backing block to help strengthen the mounting location. I used JB Marine Weld epoxy and 3M 5200 sealant along with new stainless bolts, washers and lock nuts for this project. Winter prep continues aboard Arabella in Corner Brook, Newfoundland—and this week it’s time to build a proper tent over the housetop before shrink wrap goes on. With help from fellow adventurers Lina Chu (a Vietnamese-Ukrainian photographer) and her partner Peter, Steve frames a structure designed to keep out snow while still letting light in all winter—using a clear tarp section in the middle and blue shrink wrap on the ends. After the framing is up and the plan is set, the crew takes a break for an off-the-beaten-path adventure: a windy hike to check out a nearby shipwreck—the MSC Baltic III— where an enormous cable-and-winch system has been rigged to move gear back and forth to the wreck. From sawdust and screw guns to massive chains and stormy coastal views, this episode is equal parts practical boat life and Newfoundland exploration—with the final stretch of the 2025 season coming fast. In this video, I spend a second day sailing beautiful Angostura Reservoir near Hot Springs, South Dakota. Angostura is a state recreation area in the southwest corner of the state about 6 hours from Colorado Springs. They have a great group of local Precision sailboat owners with several P-18s, P-21s and a P-23 among the fleet. The reservoir boasts 4,700 surface acres, sandy beaches, a well-protected marina, public restrooms and much steadier sailing winds than where I normally sail in the Rocky Mountains.
