Dometic RM1270 Caravan Fridge Repair – Tripping Electric & Won’t Light on Gas! D-Log 310

In D-Log 310, I tackle two problems with our caravan: a Dometic RM1270 fridge that had stopped working and an external fresh-water pump that appears to have been damaged after running dry. The Dometic caravan fridge had developed a couple of faults. When switched to 230V electric, it would trip the shore-power supply at the house, and when I tried running it on LPG gas, it wouldn't light. After ringing around caravan repair companies, the cheapest quote I received was around £240. So before booking it in, I did some research and decided to carry out some fault finding myself. In the video I explain how I diagnosed the electrical problem, including resistance checks with a multimeter, before removing the Dometic RM1270 fridge from the caravan and replacing the 230V heating element. While the fridge was out, I also cleaned the gas burner and burner area, which sorted the gas problem. The result? The fridge is now working again on both 230V electric and gas. ⚡ IMPORTANT: Caravan mains electricity and LPG gas can be dangerous. This video shows what I did to my own caravan and isn't a substitute for professional advice. If you're not competent and confident working with 230V electrical systems or LPG appliances, use a suitably qualified technician. Always isolate electrical supplies before carrying out resistance tests. There was also another caravan problem to sort out – no fresh water. The external water pump appears to have been allowed to run dry and damaged internally. As a temporary fix, I removed the working water pump from our camper van/motorhome and fitted it to the caravan, getting the water system working again. So that's two caravan repairs in one day – a Dometic fridge repair and a caravan fresh-water pump replacement. If you're having problems with a Dometic RM1270 caravan fridge, your caravan fridge is tripping the electric, it works on neither electric nor gas, or your caravan water pump has stopped working, hopefully my experience gives you some useful pointers for diagnosing the problem.
