For brush or roller application apply without thinning, although in hot weather 5 -10% Pettit 120 Brushing Thinner may be added to maintain a wet edge. For best results on large smooth surfaces roll out using a short nap or foam roller followed immediately by leveling off with the tip of a brush. For conventional air spray application, thin 5-10% with Pettit 121 Spraying Thinner to ensure a smooth finish with minimal orange peel. For airless spray application, thin up to 5% with Pettit 121 Spraying Thinner. Utilize a .017-.019-inch diameter tip for application. Do not apply when rain is threatening or in the late afternoon when working outdoors as the wet film may be adversely affected by dew. Topcoat Application: To extended the service life of Prop Coat Barnacle Barrier in order to achieve multi-season performance, Prop Coat Barnacle Barrier may be top-coated with any Pettit Antifouling Paint. When top-coating Prop Coat Barnacle Barrier which has been applied to aluminum surfaces, always use a non-cuprous oxide antifouling paint such as Vivid, Black Widow, ECO HRT, or Hydrocoat ECO to prevent the possibility of galvanic corrosion from occurring. Bottom Sq Ft Formula: ( Boat Length x (Beam + Draft) ) x 0.6 -You can put ablative over hard paint but you don’t want to put hard paint over ablative I highly recommend using ablative paint as hard paint doesn’t wear off overtime like ablative and will build up with every coat you paint making the boat heavier in the water and having to blast the coats off every time can be extremely tedious and expensive. Also, if the boat is out of the water , after a just few days hard paint will oxidize and be useless. Ablative can be taken out of the water for a long period of time and splashed back in and it will still be effective. Taping - pull off the tape shortly after you are finished painting as it can be difficult to get off if left on for too long and stuck to dried paint, and of course, this is a very satisfying part of the job. ; ) You want to Wear gloves and glasses during the whole process and a respirator and coveralls as well while sanding and painting toxic anti fouling paint. *** Make sure you leave yourself some paint for the stand squares and any other areas the boat has been resting on , i.e. bottom of keel Make sure you tape off your metallic running gear / out drives / etc when using any copper based paint as it can cause corrosion. If you've got some gelcoat that needs buffing, whether it's heavy oxidation or just needs a little love; the same process I use will work great. I highly recommend all of the products I used, and I wouldn't steer you wrong like others did to me. I learned the hard way, and if you use all these things combined, you won't need anything more. For instance, I used a different wool pad at first and it didn't have the arbor in the middle, and the core of the buffer cracked some of my gelcoat as I couldn't lay the pad flat. The list above works in tandem perfectly. I researched, and researched, and researched to bring you this video and products, in order to help get the job done with minimal costs, and at or close to a professional level.
