Hi and welcome aboard @SailingAstridTheWombat We are Gav and Shezz and two and a half years ago we bought our Beneteau Oceanis 430 sailboat with absolutely no sailing experience and jumped straight into the deep end of liveaboard sailing. Our very first passage was just over 700 nautical miles, launching us headfirst into the world of bluewater cruising, learning to sail, and real life at sea. Since that moment, we’ve been fully immersed in boat life, documenting the journey of turning a production cruising sailboat into a capable, self-sufficient home for full-time liveaboard life. From major sailboat upgrades and off-grid power systems to everyday maintenance and skills building, we have been learning what it truly takes to own, sail, and live on a boat while preparing to sail around the world. After one of the roughest and most challenging weeks of our liveaboard sailing journey so far, we finally leave Island Head Creek and continue our journey north along the Queensland coast. In this episode, we leave Island Head Creek behind after a difficult week of sailing, rough conditions and plenty of challenges on board. What started as one of the toughest stretches of our sailing adventure quickly becomes a reminder of why we choose this lifestyle — because after the hard days come the incredible places that make it all worthwhile. We set sail for Marble Island, a remote and beautiful destination along the Queensland coast, before continuing north towards one of the biggest bucket-list destinations of our journey so far — Middle Percy Island and the famous A-Frame Yacht Club. Living aboard our sailboat and travelling by sea isn't always sunshine, calm water and perfect sailing conditions. There are days when the ocean is rough, the boat is uncomfortable and you question why you decided to live on a sailboat in the first place! But then the weather settles, the sun comes out and you're sailing towards another incredible island — and suddenly it all makes sense. Our journey is taking us north through Queensland, Australia, exploring remote islands, anchorages and some of the most spectacular cruising grounds in the world.
