We took the girls on a tour of Caddo Lake in East Texas on one of our road trips from Texas to Louisiana. It was a good time, and I am just getting around to posting the video from a couple of months ago. Join us on our journey as we continue to rebuild, refit and prepare our Formosa 51 Sailboat for our continued cruising journey. We have always loved the Formosa, bought one (on a bit of a whim) late in 2014, moved aboard this one right away and started to do our refit while living board. We are avid fans of Cruising Outpost and Good Ole Boat (Good Old Boat) magazines and love the ideas we get from them. The High Modulus sailcloth styles are designed by the Challenge Engineering team to be high performing, strong and durable. The tight weave, exclusive Fiber 104 and proprietary finishing techniques lead to a cloth that makes great sails. Fiber 104 is the highest shrinkage polyester yarn used in sailcloth. The Challenge R&D engineering team conducted a collaborative search with leading fiber manufacturers and textile engineers. The purpose of the search was to find the highest shrinkage, highest tenacity yarn in the world. The search resulted in Fiber 104. The high shrinkage makes very tight woven fabrics, with the greatest quantity of fiber Interlockings™. It is much more expensive than the other fibers used in Europe and the United states, and is exclusive to Challenge Sailcloth. http://www.precisionsailloft.com/sails/upwind/h/hunter/hunter-37-5-legend/headsails/product/hunter-37-5-legend-cruising-headsail/

Catalina sailboats are very popular cruising boats. A quality designed replacement Catalina Mainsail will give you years of improved performance and safe sailing. Catalina replacement sails are offered by many new sail brokers online, however make sure when choosing a sail maker you are getting a custom sail designed and manufactured for you, your sailboat and the type of sailing that you are doing. Standard Catalina Sails do not exist! In order to produce a sail that fits many boats the quality of the sail design will be reduced. Custom sails are required to ensure a perfect fit and a safe sailing experience. http://www.precisionsailloft.com/sails/upwind/c/catalina/catalina-36-tm/mainsails/product/catalina-36-tm-cruising-mainsail/
Harpoon 17.1(5.2) sailboat's replacement sails don't need to be Dacron. This is an excellent example of Dimension-Polyant Flex Polyester Laminate being used in a smaller boat application. If you like to get out on the water in your Harpoon Sailboat and really push the limits of you and your boat try this Flex Polyester in your next replacement set of sails. DIMENSION-POLYANT’s FLEX® line stands for “Fill Laminate Extra X”. FLEX® is especially suited to racing sails. Foundations of all FLEX® laminate constructions are strong fill and warp yarns. Additional 20° and 30° “double X” patterns from the fill absorb multiple load situations. Thanks to its novel construction, FLEX® handles strain in six different directions, resulting in unprecedented shape retention characteristics. In addition to primary loads, off-angle loads in clew, head and tack areas, mid leech and luff are catered for. FLEX® will also absorb those dynamic loads that occur during sailing and enables excellent shape control. FLEX® styles are crosscut fabrics and available with several fibre densities which can be combined in a sail in accordance with the expected load situation. FLEX’s® tight-knit fibre matrix guarantees long performance life and superior durability. http://www.precisionsailloft.com/sails/upwind/b/boston-whaler/harpoon-17-1-5-2/headsails/product/harpoon-17-1-5-2-cruising-headsail/

How is life aboard a sailboat during an offshore passage? In episode 14 you get to follow us along as we leave Lisbon for a 490 Nm downwind sail to the Madeira archipelago in the Atlantic. The voyage takes us 75 hours and we arrive to the wonderful island of Porto Santo. We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved in to our sailboat RAN, a one-off aluminium built Beason 40, and untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter and started sailing south along the coast of Europe. There is no set route and we will go where the wind and our minds takes us. Weitere Info's: Segler-Club Oberspree e.V. Catalina is a very popular sailboat and because of that many sailmakers offer "Standard Catalina Sails". The problem with Standard Sails for Catalinas or any other type of sailboat is that modifications to the boat happen over time. If you want a sail that fits you, your boat and is designed for the area and type of sailing you like to do, you need to have the sail custom made. http://www.precisionsailloft.com/sails/upwind/c/catalina/catalina-36/headsails/product/catalina-36-cruising-headsail/

Watch as we re-bed the bow pulpit not once, but twice (because it was so much fun the first time) for your viewing pleasure. Hint, watch the feed of wires through inlet holes, check for faults or continuity before permanently mounting and be sure to use lots of butyl. Raw footage from aboard HH6601 'R-SIX', the first in the new line of performance cruising cats by HH Catamarans. A great day of sea trials saw max speeds of 20.3kts and near hull flying with the windward hull barely kissing the surface in 18kts of breeze.
More about the pirate scare! Please comment and let us know what you would do in the case of a pirate attack out at sea. The next 150nm of ocean until we reached the Galapagos Islands was quite enjoyable. We saw the most incredible things in the water, I started hearing things and Riley got a tiny little crab in his ear after scraping the hull. Each day we spend on the water these days seems to be full of surprises. As the sun was rising, I spotted the island of San Cristobal. Seals galore. They stuffed up my salad (A SALAD) and the world gets to see grumpy Elayna. Muddy shoe walkers leaving muddy tracks onboard. Surrounded by bird watching/explorer humans in cargo gear. I wonder what adventures tomorrow may bring. Thanks for watching, and for those on Patreon supporting my art.
