La première sortie en mer, hier après-midi, restera longtemps dans la mémoire de ceux qui y étaient. Le RM970 est étonnant: très véloce, même dans les petits airs, très vivant à la barre, et en même temps d'un calme et d'une stabilité incroyables. Au près, le bateau s'approche de la vitesse du vent avec une grande facilité : 6/7 noeuds de vitesse pour 7/8 noeuds de vent. Le vent est monté progressivement (10/12 noeuds), les 9 noeuds ont été atteints. Pour une première sortie, ce fut une très belle sortie...

Au départ de Lorient, l’épreuve était l’occasion d’une rencontre au plus haut niveau entre certains des protagonistes du prochain Vendée Globe. M.O.B. or Man Over Board is an exercise every sailor should practice and master. It's also something one hopes to never have to do. Our skipper Nico was adamant we get it right. It took several tries until we got right, and finally we did. It was our last chapter in our 1000M journey and the final step to get my license. I had to bring all my paperwork to the Cruising Club Suisse in Bern and got to discover the city, The capital of Switzerland. Even though it's landlocked, it was here that I would get the right to sail the oceans. A beautiful town that was hosting a street music festival. Another example that sailing is about discoveries and new experiences. This is the final chapter of Winded Voyage Season 1 and the beginning of Season 2 which will be coming soon. What happens when your boat is broken and in the boatyard, and two sailors become land-bound? Land cruising of course! As Varuna gets worked on by the boatyard, replacing her bowsprit, we hit the road driving back and forth across California and Nevada for Ty to do some work and make some money to help pay for the repairs. Along the way, we stop and check out quite a few cool sites! We see tons of old aircraft at the Mojave Air and Space Port and pass through Manzanar Japanese Internment Camp. It also happens to be Labor Day weekend, so we do some camping in the Sierra Nevadas near Mammoth Lakes. There, we get back to nature and explore Devil’s Postpile and Rainbow fall, amongst the beautiful landscape of the mountains. After that, it’s time to hit the road again and we head to Reno, where we are lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the Great Reno Hot Air Balloon Race! Check it out!
