Randall was able to find 2 giant coconuts, one of them being at least 15 pounds! The fizzy water inside one of them was refreshing for him to drink, but the other coconut had already gone bad. After having a successful morning coconut hunting we sailed back towards Pelican Cays to give exploring the area a second try. We were able to successfully anchor at Sandy Cay by dropping a stern anchor along with our regular anchor to keep us from wrapping the keel while we were away from the boat. We then took the dinghy around the island to a giant reef that we saw on the chart. There are several buoys along the reef to tie your dinghy up to while snorkeling, and the vibrant sea life was exciting to see. We were even lucky to swim with a spotted sea turtle! As we arrived back to Turtle later that day, Randall placed our dinghy anchor on the transom of the boat. Large swells were rolling in causing the anchor to slide off the back of the boat. Sadly the dinghy and the swim platform sandwiched the little anchor before it could fall into the water leaving a giant hole on the starboard tube of the dinghy, instantly deflating it. In this episode we leave Formentera and sail over to Ibiza, hoping to finally fill our water tanks again. We visit the old town of Ibiza before heading back to the west side. After a few rainy days we finally find a weather window to make our way to Valencia. Arrived there, we first visit a festival and go the next day to the supermarket for the first big purchase for our planned Atlantic crossing.

He gets a Carbuncle on his buttock, which is a large cluster of boils in one area, and after a trip to the hospital, is left with a hole in his cheek 1 inch wide and half an inch deep, which has to be stuffed with new gauze everyday, which Maria does on the boat every day. As no antibiotics are prescribed, they have to make sure there is no chance of infection, for such an open wound. Watch as he makes a slow but full recovery! Estávamos em um momento zona de conforto no mar: velejando pequenas distâncias, passeando e sem maiores desafios. Fomos conhecer outra praia, a Praia do Engenho, passeio que nos rendeu um mergulho agradável na parte da manhã, quando tivemos a praia só pra gente. De lá rumamos para Paraty Mirim, a parada em si não foi tão interessante, mas na saída uma novidade nos esperava, ventos de 21, 22 nós com rajadas de 25 nós em popa - o mais desconfortável para navegar. Quando saímos do "funil" ele começou a rondar e eu fiquei apreensiva com a possibilidade de um jibe. Capitão Barba Negra comandou sua tripulação com maestria, me colocando para caçar e soltar as escotas da mestra pra evitar, com minhas próprias mãos que a retranca jogasse - controle que me deixou 100% segura. Sei que não é possível fazer isso por 12 horas, foi um grande aprendizado que me deu muita confiança em mim e no Barba Negra (o capitão e o barco).

Welp, it’s about time we get moving south, eh? With all the boat dramas from the last few episodes now behind us, we’re finally making miles south down the Illinois River. And good thing, too, ‘cause winter is hot on our keel. We encounter all sorts of fun stuff on the river: huge locks, herds of sheep, free docks located in the heart of several downtowns, electric fish barriers, duck hunters hiding in elaborate blinds, pairs of pelicans, flocks of seagulls, and possibly some golden eagles (they were too far away and we’re not very confident in our birding skills). After a few stops in the towns of Joilet and Ottawa, and a marina to pick up some parts and supplies, we make it to Henry, IL, where we wake up to frost on our deck. It’s getting cold as, mate. Another Upwind passage competing with Currents and Ships, then a Scooter? https://www.sailingnandji.com This week on Sailing Nandji, After successfully clearing back into Indonesia, we head to sea on a upwind passage South to the island of Rote in search of some surf for Yosh. There is a strong opposing current which makes sailing upwind difficult in the light conditions, throw a few ships in the mix and everything becomes exciting! We visit the busy local market and load up on supplies. Walking through town resembles a free range farm as the goats, chickens, pigs and cows roam where they feel. Exploring the island by Indonesias favourite transport, the Scooter! We discover some beautiful white sandy beaches and return the following day so Yosh can have his first surf in 6 months! Not wasting time though, it is back to sea we go heading West to Malaysia where we plan to install our new engine! We are a young couple with a dog, who with no sailing experience, bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing around the Pacific! We have been in Indonesia for a couple of months cruising and are now high tailing to Malaysia for boat work. We departed Australia 18 months ago and have since explored some amazing countries, met some amazing people and experienced cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our life doing it!
