An episode with the Ocean Gem crew, who recount their epic 1,000nm trip from Southport to Pittwater via Middleton Reef, Elizabeth Reef, Lord Howe Island and Balls Pyramid. These unique reefs and islands are 300nm off Australia's Coast and are steeped in a history of untouched reefs, shipwrecks, incredible sea and bird life and the chance to stand knee deep in water, in the southern most coral reef in the world, surrounded by a 5,000m deep ocean in every direction. This 9-day ocean passage initially took us 300nm upwind to Middleton Reef, a stopover at Elizabeth Reef and 2 days ashore at Lord Howe Island before sailing around the 'jurassic like' Balls Pyramid, en-route to Pittwater, NSW on a 10-25 knot, 3-day, downwind sleigh ride, in preparation for the Pittwater to Southport race in January. I have for years wondered how to get up my mast alone, without bathering anyone winching me. It is important when you do solo sailing, to have access to all parts of the boat, especially the mast if something gets loose or need fixing up there. I finnaly caught up with a methode called "sit-climbing", using professional climbing gear to get up the boats own halyard. It was incredibly easy, even for me with my 110 kg bodyweight! All you need is a climbing harness, a couple of shackles, a grigri (first version), and a accender/jumar with a foot strap. For safety you also need to put up a security line to a second halyard. Hello Friends! This is a project throwback video of me installation a Blue Sea Battery Switch and Blue Sea SI-ACR Automatic Charging Relay. I had been having a problem with my started running my house battery dead. I was keeping my old battery switch on "BOTH" and had my shore side charger hooked up to my "common". During this installation I install the new battery switch, mount and hook up my ACR and rewire my battery charger so it goes directly to both of my batteries. The Blue Sea battery switch has a safety function that allows you to combine the battery isolated battery banks to start your engine if needed. Otherwise it just remains in the ON or OFF positions. The ACR detects when one battery is charged and automatically starts charging the other battery keeping them isolated from one another. I would get up on deck and have a look around and just slowly shake my head every half an hour or so. We decided to tie off the stern to a mooring ball so as to be held in place and were able to ride out the night without one of the Bahamian famous squalls. The next day the weather had picked up making our anchorage less and less comfortable so we decided to leave before the next high tide and so I decided to drag along beside the boat until the worst of the reef had been passed. Dernier trajet "salé" du voilier Musard 29 pour cette année 2018. Retour à Port la Forêt pour le grutage. Mais avant il faut récupérer la grande remorque sur le lieu de stockage et la convoyer par les petites routes bretonnes jusqu'à la zone de manutention du port. Puis démâter, ranger et sangler le bateau à sa remorque pour le préparer au trajet retour en Alsace.

What a disastrous end to the season! When we thought we had seen the back of our bad luck we manage to pick up a discarded fishing net, rope and line as we enter the marina for the last time this year. Knowing we shouldn’t even be leaving Kejstral in Greece makes it all the more frustrating, all because 2 customs officials in Didim can’t read the law correctly and have turned us away! We knew it was serious the way the engine stopped DEAD, so it was no surprise when after being lifted out, the gearbox would need to be dismantled and repaired, along with a new cutlass bearing. We love Leros so despite this latest turn of events we hire a scooter and explore more of the island. Sadly we have to leave Kejstral and return to the UK for a few weeks, so she is now in the capable hands of Leros Marina! The DJI Phantom 4 Pro+ won't let you install any apps not approved by DJI on the built in monitor. Sadly this means you can't use ANY mapping apps which is a real negative of this device. I wasn't happy with that, and fortunately I'm fairly obsessive when it comes to making the drones work how I want them to, so after quite some time I finally figured out how to make it work! Stick with a craft people will ACTUALLY want (no sense doing something they'll just end up throwing away). I bought these inexpensive beanie hats on ASOS. The yarn was from my personal yarn stash for knitting and then I also got a few different colors from Michael's and a store in Brooklyn called Woolyn since I wanted to offer options. 5. Keep the food simple with 2 make-ahead staples + snacks. I chose pigs-in-a-blanket (shaped like a wreath for Christmas) and vegetarian wrap sandwiches with sun dried tomato, basil and parmesan cheese. After another awesome sail in Ibiza, we look for a calm anchorage for the night. Except, the swell is weirdly coming from every direction! We think it might be due to some sort of storm off the coast of Africa. We try sailing to Majorca, but we have to turn back around. Total fail! The next day, we set off again in better conditions. On the way, we catch a tuna and get drenched thanks to the big swell from the side.
