Check out our SWEET Site: http://bit.ly/gwtw-home ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nobody wants to drink contaminated water and people think fresh water storage tanks are unsanitary. We've met people that live in RVs, Motorhomes, Vans, Tiny House, Off Grid Cabins, power boats and sailboats that simply won't use the water in their tanks for drinking. Instead they chose to go to the store and load up on gallons and gallons of plastic water bottles and jugs. We think that is absolutely crazy, but we also understand they don't want to get sick from drinking water. Today we’re sharing how we store fresh water aboard our sailing catamaran CURIOSITY, and how we turn that into water that's better than bottled...but most importantly it's water that's PURE and SAFE to drink straight out of the tap. These are tips from our Life on a Boat (and our 7 years of RV travel before that). If you want to skip to the specifics, here’s what we cover in the video: 00:36 A Marina is the most obvious place to get fresh, potable and safe water on a boat, but… 00:58 There are 3 main ways besides a marina where sailors can get fresh water onto their boat. 01:07 How to collect Rain Water on a sailboat (how we do it). 01:38 Reverse Osmosis (RO) Watermaker. 02:45 Our 120v RO watermaker makes 40 gallons of PURE and SAFE drinking water per hour. 04:06 Discount (or Free Stuff) code it your purchase a Cruise RO Watermaker. Use Discount Code WYNNS when you purchase your watermaker. 5:05 Public water source from land. 06:17 Is a public water source safe to drink or put into the fresh water storage tanks on a boat? 07:17 How much does purified drinking water cost in Tahiti, French Polynesia? 07:27 How much water does the average human need to drink in a day? 07:55 The conclusion. How we get water onto our catamaran. And what we think is the best way to get pure drinking water on any boat. 08:24 Next video we’ll cover how we store freshwater on our boat along with how we filter and purify it to make it safe to drink. There are a ton of ways sailors get drinking water on their boats, and some will drink the 'dock water' or 'rain water' without purifying or filtering it. We say it's risky, but that's totally cool if they want to use whatever water source as their fresh water. Remember, everything in this video is solely our opinions based on our research and experience of living off the grid for the past 9+ years. Even though the company ACUVA has offered up a discount code to our viewers, and hooked us up with this test unit, this is NOT a sponsored video. We chose to create this video because we get the questions all the time: How do you get pure and safe drinking water on your sailboat? or Do you only drink bottled water? or Do you really drink the water out of your storage tanks? So, if you want to filter and purify your drinking water, a system like ours is ideal for off grid living. Should you chose to buy an ACUVA UV Water purification system, make sure you enter the discount code WYNNS at checkout to get $100 off any model. If it's gear you plan to buy anyway, you get a discount and it helps us buy more filters (we get a small bonus if you purchase). This week we share our shake down cruise, but it was not the normal shakedown, it was proper. We sailed around Cape of Storms. We went to Saldanha, then Houtbay, then around Cape Point to Simons Town, then to Gordons Bay, Pringle Bay and then all the way back to Cape Town. We anchored and docked, we had no wind to 41 knots....from full Code D and main to fully reef 2 on both main and genoa in 30 minutes. The swells was between nothing and 3m high. #gotosea gototheocean Second and last part of our Atlantic crossing, we are having a very easy crossing with light winds and no problems. Apart from a blocked toilet again, and this time is a bit difficult as we are at sea. We arrive at beautiful Barbados. Checking in takes hours and we are very tired. We are really enjoying this life and share everything with you it's been wonderful . Thank you very much, you guys are amazing. Much love Carla & Simon A little bit about us... We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach on Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, fifteen months after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is! As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted. But for these people it's a dream, or may not even be a dream. We will look around and when the opportunity to help comes we will put our hands and hearts in to it. Much love Carla and Simon
Have you ever wondered what the difference between Epoxy and Polyester resin is ? and more importantly which resin you should select for with use case. We have created a video which compares the seven key differences between the two products to help you choose. Both Epoxy and Polyester resin will work for almost all boat repairs, you will see better results which will last longer if you select the right resin for the right repair. You will also remove the risk of creating other issues by selecting the wrong resin. For example selecting epoxy resin for job that require water proofing will protect your sailing boat against fiberglass osmosis. In the last half of the video we look at two uses cases for epoxy resin, repairing the loose stanchions on our Mumm 36, before water proofing the bottom of the hull with an epoxy top coat to prevent the onset of fiberglass osmosis. We choose epoxy over polyester for both cases, first for the bonding strength and secondly for the water proofing properties. Hopefully you are enjoying the Bottom Up Boats Mumm 36 rebuild project where we restore a 20 year old racing yacht. If you are don't forget to leave a like and to subscribe to ensure that you get notified when the latest updates are released.

Bello, no?

In this weeks episode, I get honest with myself (and in turn you) about the boat projects and not having lived aboard now for over a year during the refit. I will also show how we are insulating the boat to prevent or at least significantly reduce condensation in the boat. We start working in the V-berth this week and get the first layers of radiant barrier up and follow it up with the closed cell foam also. Next step in this cabin will be hull sides and the new ceilings and walls. I go over a simple tip and trick we use to keep the drains flowing on our boats. When you live aboard or use your boat often, you tend to get small food particles that get into the pipes. Over time these can reduce the flow of water out of the sinks and cause some unwanted smells. I also test out the strength of our Marquipt yacht steps angled platform. These steps are something that has been a long time coming, and Deb has wanted to install them for quite some time. It is now time to get moving on that. See how strong (and awkward) these are. Building a cruising sailboat Working all over the boat. The forward bulwarks are in place now, just waiting for finishing. The raised deck is trimmed. The boat utilises a hard-chined, plywood construction and this design of boat is a proven, capable, ocean-going vessel. Boat building with plywood is a relatively easy and cost-effective way to produce a strong, monocoque-style boat hull. These videos aim to show the way in which I go about it. Thank you! Tony

Whale Sharks in Cenderawasih Bay, West Papua, Indonesia Cenderawasih Bay has become a popular destination in Indonesia to dive/snorkel with Whale Sharks. The biggest fish on earth come to the traditional Indonesian fishing platforms, the "bagan", to feed on the small little fish (ikan puri) which the fishermen are catching during the night. For many generations, the fishermen believe that those gigantic fish bring them good luck. It definitely does! When visiting Cenderawasih Bay, remember good practices of diving/snorkeling with Whale Sharks and please do not touch, ride or chase them. September 2018 Enjoy!

February 4, 2019. Exiting the Old Bahama Channel we are beset by contrary currents and light winds which threaten to drag us back into the busy shipping channel, as well as toward the coast of Cuba. So I spend much of the evening on deck hand steering, trying to effect whatever headway I can make given the nearly non-existent winds. Around midnight the winds fill in from the northeast, and by morning we are skirting the south side of Cay Sal. The Gulf Stream is fairly benign despite the northeasterly winds, and we arrive in Marathon Key, Florida, just after noon on February 6, having thus completed the 1,000 mile passage, anchor up to anchor down, in just under eleven days. It's been a goal of ours (well mostly Rileys) to live off the land for as long as we can. It'd be nice if we could grow veggies onboard, but I'll have to stick to herbs for now. Veggie gardens and blue water ocean vessels apparently don't go well together ☹️. We are Eileen and Brown Councill. Welcome to our channel and a glimpse into our life adventure! 2020 was a year of uncertainty and change (for all of us, right?), but we overcame the challenges and decided it was time to chase our dream, to sail around the world! Did I mention that we had very NO sailing experience? Before leaving Qingdao, China, our home of 4 years, we sold almost all of our earthly possessions and started our international search to find the right sailboat that we would call "home." After 5 months of unanticipated twists and turns, we found what we were looking for, a used Leopard 44' Catamaran located in St. Lucia. So, here begins our journey, filled with unmatched excitement and honestly, a bit of trepidation as well. We have much to learn as we travel the world on our floating home and we intend to document that journey and share it with you. We are so glad you have decided to join us, and we hope that you will find our story so compelling that it will inspire you to chase your dreams too! As a viewer, we consider you to be part of our family and look forward to getting to know you. Don't hesitate to comment on our videos and ask questions. We will do our best to answer every correspondence! All we ask is that you have patience with us as we work really hard to improve our camera/video techniques and ability to tell a story. Hopefully, you will be as BLOWN AWAY from watching, as we are in experiencing and producing our adventures! HOW CAN YOU SUPPORT US? If you wish to support our video efforts, all we ask is that you SUBSCRIBE, give a THUMBS UP, SHARE our videos with your friends, AND COMMENT! WOULD YOU LIKE TO GET TO KNOW US MORE DEEPLY? WANT ME TO MAKE MORE VIDEOS? https://www.patreon.com/chrisbiasutti PLEASE SUBSCRIBE - https://bit.ly/2HPyDWB We've been living aboard Family Circus for a little over two years now and I still haven't done a tour of our home... until now! There's a lot less space living aboard a boat compared to living in a house and I'll show you how we make it work for us on board Family Circus. Plus I'm excited to share with you our 2019 sailing plans and what we need to do to make them a reality. The core of "Family Circus" is Chris (Dad / Captain), Sayo (Mom / Admiral), Aya (First Officer / Deckhand) and Miya (Baby / Stainless Polisher). After many years in business in Vancouver we were tired of life inside the box and wanted to make a change, we just weren't exactly sure what would be next. In July of 2016, when Sayo was six months pregnant, we decided (somewhat at the last minute) to fly to New Caledonia for one last holiday before the baby was born. On this trip we started an adventure that changed our lives. SUBSCRIBE TO OUR CHANNEL https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCe-5KWJ3eQ8QA3WTWnHuSLg CLICK THE BELL to know when new Videos are up! Best tricolor / anchor / strobe masthead light I could find out there! LED advantage for low electrical consumption , small & light so little windage, anodized machined aluminum and glass (not weak plastic that weathers quickly in the sun and rain) , very easy to install, certified USCG Colreg 72 – 2nm , waterproof mini connector makes it easy to put through small holes, threaded top to allow easy mount of Davis Windex. I can attest to great after-sales service of company. Thanks to Alejandro Burgos for support. Filmed in February 2019.
