I make a quick trip to a community in the Arctic Circle and we spend another day looking for Bison.
This is the second half of my 14 day solo sail from a North Carolina to Culebra. I encounter my second storm, reflect on life at sea, and finally see land!!
Re-powering our Sailboat with a brand NEW Yanmar. https://www.sailingnandji.com In this episode of Sailing Nandji, the day has finally arrived where we install our NEW Engine Fang. We had been waiting on a new stern tube to be made and sent from Australia, so have been occupying our time with other major refitting jobs on Nandji. With this now installed we could book in the crane and get our NEW Engine installed. Thank you to everyone who has watched our videos and contributed to our new engine. It is all because of you legends we have been able to install this brand new engine and re-power Nandji. With all this boat work being complete our vessel is becoming indestructible as we get her ready for our next big trip across the Indian Ocean. With no sailing experience, we bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing around the Pacific! We have just sailed 2000nm through Indonesia and have arrived to the boat yard in Malaysia to prepare for the next big adventure. Currently on the hard stand, we are re-powering and completing a major refit! We departed Australia 18 months ago and have since explored some amazing countries, met some beautiful people and experienced different cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our life doing it! The adventure is just beginning as we sail West with the trades! Indian Ocean here we come!! A fleet of cruising and racing multihulls come together regularly on Sydney Harbour for social racing as part of the Multihull Cruising Yacht Club sponsored by us, Multihull Central. This is such a great group of people racing on one of the most spectacular habours in the world and provides the perfect environment to learn your boat, trim and tweak sails, and get to know other multihull owners. All are welcome and you can register at www.multihullcruising.org.au under the "TAGS" tab. Crew also welcome.
Navigation Station build out part 2: Hello Friends, On this episode we are back onboard Triteia getting everything started on the big rewire and installation of the new Navigation Station. Last week we looked at certain aspects of building the custom panels and now its time to unwire the old switch panel, label everything and get all the wires out of the way. After the old chaos was dealt with we dry fit the panels and get everything fastened down. In the next episode we wire up the AC system from the shore power inlet to the switch, battery charger and 120v socket. Planning is one of the most important aspects of sailing around the world. We often spend days or weeks researching new countries and the Philippines was no exception. Most round-the-world cruisers pass through Indonesia. It's safe. There is lots of information from previous sailors. But that doesn't necessarily make it the best route. After reading all we could about the Philippines we made a map and plotted where all the recent pirate attacks happened. Turns out they are all in the southern Sulu Sea. The central Philippines hosts some of the most spectacular and safe cruising we have seen to date. Long sandy beaches. Sunny skies and funnelling winds excellent for Kitesurfing. Perhaps the point is boldness and Bravery combined with research and safety pays off in spades. We are so excited to share all the stories we have experienced here in the Philippines. It is hands down the best country we have visited to date. In this episode the Parlay Revival crew take on their longest and most dangerous passage to date, the infamous crossing from Aruba to Colombia. Here the winds and seas meet in an unpredictable manner, putting many sailors to the test. It is somewhat of a luck of the draw situation, slightly minimised by selecting the right time of year to do it, which we had going for us. This passage is rated in the top 5 worst sails you can do when circumnavigating along the milk run. Watch as we hit patches of absolutely zero wind, then get hit by squall after squall trying to get the last part of the passage done down to Cartagena, Colombia. SV Parlay is a hurricane damaged 2012 Lagoon 450 Catamaran bought in Tortola, BVI at the beginning of 2018. Colin and his friend spent 4 months getting her seaworthy, before setting sail across the Caribbean. Follow our journey as we continue to fix her and eventually circumnavigate the globe! The Tula Shop - http://tulasendlesssummer.com/shop-tula/ We replaced all our standing rigging on our sailing catamaran with a type of synthetic line called Dyneema Dux. Dux is dyneema that has been pre- heat stretched to take all of the initial stretch out of the line. 9mm Dux has less stretch than the 8mm SS wire it replaced and more than 2.5 times the breaking strength. #boatproblems #boatjobs We arrive in St Barts and for a walk in town. We finally discovered why our solar panels were not charging and fix the problem. More hurricane damage boats to look st in St Martin. We provision the boat as much as we can as in the BVIs it won’t be as easy and probably more expensive. Going to the Dutch side of St Martin give us a completely different perspective of the island. We set sail to the BVIs. Would you like to become our Patron and support us on this adventure? Thank you very much, you guys are amazing supporting us with your likes and comments, we really feel that we have a new family out there. Much love Carla & Simon A little bit about us... We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach on Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, fifteen months after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is! As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted. But for these people it's a dream, or may not even be a dream. We will look around and when the opportunity to help comes we will put our hands and hearts in to it. Much love Carla and Simon
Brilliant sunshine, solid trade winds and Caribbean surf made for the perfect start for the 52nd edition of Antigua Sailing Week. The cocktail of heaven-sent conditions was very apt for English Harbour Rum Race Day. The six CSA racing classes were on the Windward Course enjoying some epic downwind legs straight off the front of the brochure! Ker 46 Lady Mariposa won today’s race in CSA 2. British Lombard 46 Pata Negra, skippered by Adrian Fisk was second, and Vittorio Biscarini’s Italian Mylius 15E25 Ars Una was third. “We are a mixture of professionals and corinthian sailors, but everyone has an important role to play – there are no passengers,” commented two-time Olympic Gold Medallist, Jesper Bank, skipper of Lady Mariposa. “We had excellent conditions today and close competition and the last downwind leg was a big part of our race win. When you are going at full speed in a high performance boat, it is a fantastic feeling for everyone on board.” Sir Peter Harrison’s Farr 115 Sojana, holder of the Lord Nelson Trophy, started their campaign with a win in CSA 1. Fully powered-up, the British supermaxi completed the 20-nautical mile course in under two hours. TP52 Zingara (Conviction) with Canadian Richard Reid at the helm, was second. Lithuanian Volvo 65 Ambersail, skippered by Simonas Steponavicius was third. In CSA 3, Ondeck Antigua’s Farr 65 Spirit of Juno, skippered by Arran Chapman won today’s race and celebrated loud and proud at the English Harbour Rum Race Day prize giving! Adrian Lee’s Irish Swan 60 Lee Overlay Partners II was just 20 seconds behind Spirit of Juno after over two hours of racing. Mark Jagger’s British Bordeaux 60 Theia of London, skippered by James Richman was third. In CSA 4, British Oyster 48 Scarlet Oyster won today’s hotly contested race by just 16 seconds on corrected time from Pamala Baldwin’s Antiguan J/122 Liquid. Diego Aguirre’s J/122 Team Inka from Peru, was third by just 18 seconds from the Canadian Reflex 38 Touch2Play Racing, skippered by Rob Butler. (Portugues abaixo) This is it! After all this work, we think (and hope) Latitude is ready enough for the deep blue ocean, so we finally break the umbilical cord to Sydney and sail North on our summer holidays. First stop Port Stephens. Along the way, we have our first surf off the boat, Mari pretty much pats some Dolphins... and the apprentice fisherman goes head to head with the Troublesome Tuna of Terrigal.... Bons Ventos!
In this episode we finish our "shakedown" sailing trip in Kilada, the final destination for this time. ZOLIO have to stay on the hard until we will come back in mid June to continue our Greek odyssey with our fine Dufour 385 Grand Large.

In this video, BuzzFeed producer Erin Phraner uses comments from her followers to figure out a cookie fail. Follow along as she figures out why these loaded sprinkle cookies turned out flat & crispy when folks tried baking them, then get the REAL (fixed, amazing, chewy, delicious) recipe at the end. We'll share it below, as well. LOADED EASTER BASKET COOKIES 1 stick unsalted butter, softened 1/2 cup packed light-brown sugar 1/2 cup granulated sugar 1 large egg 1 teaspoon vanilla 1 1/4 cups flour 1 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon baking soda Sprinkles, as you wish! M&Ms, as you wish! 1. Preheat the oven to 350F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. 2. Beat the butter & sugars until fluffy. Beat in the egg & vanilla. 3. In a bowl, whisk the flour, salt and baking soda. Add to the butter mixture & beat until just combined. Stir in your sprinkles & MMs (like to go crazy, 1 cup each)! 4. Scoop the dough onto the baking sheet & bake 8-10 minutes or until golden

Full details: https://www.oceansailingpodcast.com/sailing-calendar This offshore passage departs from Southport in Queensland, Australia and takes us 310nm ESE to Middleton Reef, then south to Elizabeth Reef, onto Lord Howe Island for a 2 day stopover, then past Balls Pyramid and finally to the CYCA at Rushcutters Bay in Sydney. It’s a challenging and exciting 2 leg 800nm blue water ocean passage. This is an invitation for you to join our crew, for an iconic ocean passage to some of Australia’s most isolated reefs and islands, that many coastal sailors put on their bucket list and very few get to tick off. The 2-day stopover at Lord Howe Island in the middle of the passage, gives you the option of sailing both legs of the passage or joining or departing at Lord Howe Island with the option to fly in and out of the airport there. In leg 1 - we’ll depart Southport and head to the notorious Middleton Reef, one of the southernmost platform reefs in the world. This 6nm long and 3nm wide reef rises up from the 3,000 metre deep Tasman Sea floor. This reef has claimed more than 70 vessels in the past 100 years with some wrecks still visible. We’ll circumnavigate the reef and observe the wrecks before sailing 30nm south to Elizabeth Reef. Elizabeth Reef is the southernmost coral atoll in the world and one of the southernmost platform reefs in the world. It measures 4nm by 3nm. At low tide most of the reef flat is exposed. At high tide, both a cay and a sand spit known as Elizabeth Island, with a diameter of about 400 m sits just one metre above sea level. At Elizabeth Reef we’ll anchor outside the lagoon and head ashore. The depth of the lagoon enables us to take our RIB inside it and go ashore on Elizabeth Island. Its surreal to be standing on a tiny piece of sand more than 500km off Australia’s east coast. We’ll then sail 100nm south to Lord Howe Island, where we will tie up at a mooring in the lagoon on the western side, before heading ashore for a weekend of exploring, hiking the cliff top trails, swimming in water surrounded by fish and relaxing. Lord Howe Island has 300 residents and a fascinating maritime, aviation, horticulture and war history, that’s proudly on display at the local museum. Most of the island is virtually untouched forest, with many of the plants and animals found nowhere else in the world. Other natural attractions include the diversity of the landscapes, the world's southernmost barrier coral reef, nesting seabirds, and the rich historical and cultural heritage In Leg 2 we will depart Lord Howe Island, and sail 13nm SE to Balls Pyramid. Balls Pyramid is an erosional remnant of a shield volcano that formed about 6.4 million years ago. It is 562 metres high, while measuring only 1,100 metres in length and 300 metres across, making it the tallest volcanic stack in the world. Fantastic Catamaran for groups till 45 persons in Mallorca.
Come along with me on my solo delivery from Lorient to Les Sables-d'Olonne on the Ethical Power Figaro 3. 90 miles under spinnaker in up to 30 knots of wind makes for a spirited delivery, a great warm-up for the Solo Maitre Coq regatta next week.
This is a one owner boat with only 25 hours on it. A high end 23' bowrider, loaded up with all the options, filler cushions, cocktail table, top end stereo, dual batteries, snap out floor liners, trailer, tower, bimini top, wakeboard racks, bow and cockpit covers. The 6.2 Mercruiser and Bravo 3 drive was a factory order and it seriously hauls A$$! Nothing more to say, but this boat is nearly in factory condition at a fraction of the price! Check out www.shuswapmarina.com for more pics and a walkaround video!
This is a one owner boat with low hours. As always Bayliner's use of space is exceptional, and there is tonnes of storage on this boat. It has closed cooling so it's ready for a splash in the ocean should you desire. It comes on the galvanized trailer with surge brakes and swing tongue. The 3.0 TKS Mercruiser package is reliable and economical and has been very well maintained. All the canvas and upholstery is in great shape and this little beaut is ready to hit the water! Check out www.shuswapmarina.com for more pics and a walkaround video!
In this episode we drop anchor in Mandraki Bay at Rhodes Town, Greece and get a sleepless couple of nights due to the swell. We leave Rhodes a few days later, catch our biggest fish and take on the Angry sea with our friends who are novice sailors. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you found it informative or entertaining please give it a thumbs as it helps get YouTube to promote it outside of the existing subscribers. Why did we sail all the way to Greenland? Was it to see an iceberg? Grab a cool photo of a whale or maybe a musk ox? How about filming some striking landscapes? Nope. For us, it's all about the people. Meeting people, connecting with them and, hopefully, becoming friends. Letting them in to our lives and taking the time to find out about their world. We love exploring the wilds that nature has to offer, but the people of Paamiut touched our hearts. To us...that is everything. Herby gets to work on building the galley out of Sapele Mahogany. The plan is to make an edge grain butcher block counter top that will be strong and beautiful, and build a useful storage solution beneath it. Boat Work! Maddie does a commissioned portrait and also finds time to help brainstorm the storage solutions that will hold all of our pots and pans in our new galley. Oh, and if you thought the math you learned in school had no real life application, think again! Herby uses basic middle school math to cut a perfectly square hole in a boat thousands of miles from where he started. Math Power! We did it! We started our circumnavigation! We moved onto the boat end of November 2018 and left Cape Town beginning February 2019. We had three months to prepare Sisu and ourselves for this day...Now you know why we were a bit busy :-) RYA Yachtmaster Offshore, Aftermarket stuff such as Lithium and power generators, provisioning, getting all spare parts and stuff like boat shampoo (wtf)...But we started! We sailed from Cape Town to Walvisbay in Namibia. We crossed our first country border and raised a foreign flag! And we love it! It is awesome! We cruise down the Great Sandy Straits checking out the Ceratoadus and Palmer shipwrecks. While waiting inside Inskip Point for good weather we have our underwater blue lights on at night and a couple dolphins come right up to the back to feed on the fish playing in our light. When the wind, swell, tide and the time are all satisfactory we cross the infamous Wide Bay Bar. We head to nearby Double Island Point to wait the night before diving Wolf Rock in the morning. Wolf rock is comprised of four volcanic pinnacles that are covered by hard and soft corals and is home to the critically endangered grey nurse shark. The Grey Nurse Sharks congregate during October and November at this site, and although diving a few months later are hopeful that we may possibly see at least one shark.
