We travel 13nm from Warderick Wells to Cambridge Cay. From our mooring ball off this quaint island, snorkeling the ‘sea aquarium’ and exploring the caves of Rocky Dundas are just a dinghy ride away. A few days later we head another 13nm South to Big Majors and Staniel Cay. We had planned on checking out Thunderball Grotto, but the current wasn’t cooperating so we chilled out at the bar at Staniel Cay Yacht Club, not only a popular hang out for people but apparently nurse sharks too! We were anchored near pig beach so we could see when boat loads of tours would stop by to see the insta-famous swimming pigs. At times there were literally hundreds of people there so we decided to go early one morning before anyone else arrived. In this episode we sail across from La Palma, one of the Canary Islands, to Funchal, Madeira, which takes us 2 and a half days in the end. We explore Funchal quite briefly as it is very expensive in the marina and so we decide to sail around to a gorgeous little anchorage. Here we meet up with some friends which turns into a stressful situation... Ryan goes to rescue a windsurfer, then needs rescuing himself, then (once rescued) goes back out to sea and rescues the rescuers, who had themselves got into trouble - scary times! Then we set sail from Madeira to Santo Porto aka paradise! It's a tough sail for us with big winds and waves and some serious listing (leaning for all you non-sailors!) But we really enjoyed the challenge and are feeling more and more confident with our sailing. In this video I give an outline of the design of my modified trim tab wind vane steering system I built for my RL28 trailer sailer Neringa. I show some of the pitfalls and some of the critical design features that make the difference between the system working effectively or failing miserably. Around 90% happy with the result so far and the project will be continue to be tweaked as I continue to use it. The RL28 is a challenging boat to self steer this way as balancing the sails and rig can be challenging in changeable conditions. I am also currently playing with my head sail configuration to try make the rig more stable and easily balanced. I am absolutely happy with the system as show and would expect it to operate near perfectly on a boat that is easily balanced and is more stable in its balance in changeable conditions. The design has been modified numerous times to get to this point. The basic design could be adapted to any boat with a transom hung rudder. It is important to remember that all boats are different and any wind vane system will have to be tuned and adjusted to the characteristics of each particular boat.

Sometimes even the most straight forward of tasks leads to an adventure. We plan to check out of Carriacou only to find that the customs office closed for good just the day before. Me meet up with Greg-OR-ry and he takes us on chill ride to the main town where the officials are hangin out. They take a short break from watching YouTube videos to stamp our papers and we’re off! We arrive at Union island, get cleared with customs and immigration, and proceed to the infamous Happy Island which it turns out is built entirely of conch shells. The owner Ravi spent the last 15 years building this island on a sand bar out of the discarded shells from the local fisherman. It’s survived countless hurricanes and now he serves a pretty mean rum punch! Slightly hungover we find ourselves sailing towards a very special group of protected islands known as the Tobago Cays Marine park. On my first snorkel to shore I see a ray, a few turtles, and even squid. Needless to say the protection is paying off big time in this area and we’re so happy to be able to share it with you. Our First Visitors On Our Sailboat 59 Beau and Brandy Sailing In this episode we have Beau's brother Nik and his girlfriend, Sam, come join us on our sailboat, Saoirse. This makes them our first official sailboat guests, which they quickly turn into crew. We took it easy on them, don't worry. Nik brought us two suitcase of things that we have been ordering and we were really excited to see. When you are out here in the Bahamas, getting some things is really difficult, so to have someone fly in with some things is GREAT! Better footage coming :) Once Sam arrived, 4 dolphins swam right by the boat, so we jumped in and swam with them. BRANDY'S life was MADE! Swimming with dolphins has been on her bucketlist! After the excitement we take a hike up monument hill for a gorgeous overlook of all the sailboat in the anchorage. We dive on Rolle Reef and also sail around the outside of the harbor to go fishing and teach Sam and Nik a little about handling the sailboat. Our first visitors on the boat was a GREAT EXPERIENCE!! Pryce FISH JERKY RECIPE: -------------------- What you'll need: -Plastic bag -Fresh fish (trigger, cabrilla, parrot, yellowtail or what is recommended to you) -Sesame oil -Natural sugar (can substitute for honey, agave, maple syrup, or other) -Soy sauce -Salt 1. Cut your fish into french fries (British chips) shape 2. Put your fish in a plastic bag with all the ingredient and let it marinate for 2-3 hours 3. Use a string and thread it thru the fish 4. Tie it up on deck and let it dry under the sun for half a day for a chewy texture, or a full day for a fish jerky texture (this will allow it to last longer, but it will be a bit harder to chew) 5. Florence plowed through a smack of jellyfish we entered Moreton bay but with poor weather forecast we went and hid in a marina. This allowed us to meet up with a couple who follow our channel and they very kindly lent us their car so we could make the most of the time by exploring inland and the glasshouse mountains. We also give you a run down of our camera gear before heading to the camera shop for an upgrade with the money kindly donated by our patrons. Finally the weather improves and we regress to age 8 on the sand dunes. We are a British couple who set off from England in 2016 to fulfill our dream of sailing around the world on our 37ft sail boat, Florence. Sorry for losing a week, as you may know San Blas its not know for having much phone service aka internet. We hope this video makes it for the lost week. The trip to Panama was expected to be all plain sailing. Does that sound right? OF course not. We broke and fixed the autopilot, the motor couldn't be run for more than 10 minutes because it kept on overheating, we flooded the front cabin and our batteries almost were drained flat. Yep, sounds right. But the sailing was great which made up for all the problems down below. We also give a run down about the pirate situation around Honduras and Nicaragua and the Gordo Banks and offer alternative solutions about dealing with pirates. These may or may not be good ideas.
