We work together as a family painting our hatch opening and fixing a leaky scupper drain on our sailboat. Todd and the kids fight to remove the 5200 that was used to bed the drain in our cockpit. We leave the resort at Tavanipupu on the southern end of Guadalcanal to sail to the capital of the Solomon Islands, Honiara. On the way we are hit by a strong squall, before finally anchoring at Honiara and completing our entry formalities into the country. We experience some western style cafe society and the Honiara markets before discovering a bit more about the fascinating war history in which the Americans fought the Japanese for control of the airfield in Honiara. We also witnessed the royal visit by Prince Charles, his first to the Solomon Islands. If the war history isn't your thing you can fast forward from 7:06 to 13:42 and the Royal visit.

Tamsen is a 170 ft Perini Navi super sailing yacht built for the Firestone Family, who crew the boat themselves. We were fortunate enough to get a closeup view of this yacht during PILAR's stay at Thunderbolt Marine Services in Savannah, GA. Most of time she was in the service bay (in the water), but a day before our departure, they hauled her out to do some work. We never got to see her sail, but found a few videos below in reference. According to a New York times article in 2008, the five-cabin area alone totals 128 square meters (1,378 square feet), with another 111 square meters (1,195 square feet) devoted to the saloon and wheelhouse. It was built by Perini Navi of Viareggio, Italy, one of the yachting world's best-known construction companies. Each Perini vessel takes around three years to build and costs more than 500,000 euros ($625,000) per meter of length, depending on the degree of customization. We sail off anchor and leave Portimao, Portugal and make our way directly across the Gulf of Cadiz to anchor under sail in Cadiz, Spain. No motor, no stress, no electronics. We raise the anchor by hand with the sails up and head to our next port where we anchor once again with the sails still flying. Catamaran IMPI is sailing around the world. In this series we are sailing in INDONESIA - It's OUT OF SEASON for sailing RAJA AMAPT but we are LOVING IT !!! We share some of our dives - Insanely beautiful, a stunning 'hide away marina' (I say so because very few sailors know of it's existence and yet, for Indonesia this place is a treasure for what otherwise is a very remote sailing territory for services offered to sailboats. In our previous episode, we've come through some heavy weather to get here, and this episode we show why it was WORTH IT ! Meet some of the folks at Meridian Dive Adventures and 'Waisai Marina' (as some of us to refer it) - A number of South Africans along with local folks operate here. We show you some of the programs for youngsters here, young sea cadets being trained in military style to become seamen - once trained - they are the most sought after sea cadets for commercial operations in the world. MERIDIAN ADVENTURES SAIL, DIVE, RESORT We end this video where we will begin in our next episode - preparing to cross through Kabui Pass which has been passed by a number of sailboats, yet is feared by many sailors and captains we've spoken to. DIESEL - Before departing for Indonesia we were told diesel is dirty and is a huge problem for boats in Indonesia. For this reason and because we love running our air conditioners day and night in Indo, we decided to load the boat with full tanks, pleanty of diesel drums etc. - it's heavy and slows the boat down adding a lot of pressure to the sails. This is why discovering Waisai (Meridian Adventures) Marina is such a treasure. Had we known this, we could have sailed lighter out of Australia.
