👉 World Health Organisation Mythbusting: https://www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019/advice-for-public/myth-busters There are a few reasons why sailors and cruisers are concerned right now about the current situation just as much as our landlubbing friends. Maybe the best thing for each of us to do is take our sailboat out to sea or to anchor off some remote, desert island? The disease is spreading across the world, countries are closing their ports, border control is getting tighter and more restricted, some of us are quarantined in the place we're currently anchored or moored and some of us will have to re-think our sailing plans. And then there is the usual problem of renewing visas... We need to keep a daily watch on developments around the world which will inevitably impact all of us. At the time of writing, no children have died and most healthy mid-life adults have survived. Health workers are at greater risk because they are being exposed more than the rest of us. Older people and those with pre-existing medical complaints are the ones taking the brunt of the disease. But it is early days yet and scientists are working hard to gather data from around the world to establish the parameters of the disease. It is our duty to try to stop its spread and to ensure we do not pass it on (even unwittingly) to our older or infirm friends, workmates and family. Washing hands regularly and for longer than normal is essential to aid in slowing the reach of coronavirus. It's time we go sailing down the west coast of Santiago island. But before that our friend Anton takes us to visit a couple of his favourite spots, his aunt's bar and a black sand beach. And then it's time to get Galopin ready. His deck is covered in desert dust. His hull is like my face, stubbly and unkempt. And his motor won't start, then it won't stop. We postponed our departure which gave time for our friend Lola to come aboard. It was superb sailing conditions. 20kt wind at our back, sunny weather stunning scenery and good friends. The only problem it was too short. But when we arrive at our destination, we find a wonderful protected cove and a host of locals who take us away. Some say it’s The Best Sailing Channel on YouTube! When PARADISE turns to HELL | Sailing Martinique | 98 | Beau and Brandy Sailing We continue sailing up the west coast of Martinique into the harbor of St. Pierre. Here one of the deadliest volcanoes overlooks the anchorage. In 1902 the volcano erupted and leveled the town of 30,000 in 3 seconds. Hundreds of ships burst into flames and sunk, not able to break away from their anchors in time. We dive one of these ships that sunk during the eruption, the Amelie. It’s quite eerie to see something growing beautifully underwater that ends so tragically. We heard there was one survivor found alive in St. Pierre four days after the eruption. He was locked in his underground jail cell, which in turn saved his life, because the deadly gas and ash were unable to reach him. We were able to go into town and look around at the destruction. Lots of areas, including the jail cell and the local theater still remain just as the day the volcano erupted. Hope you enjoy! #sailingsaoirse #sailingmartinique #shipwreckdive big love, beau, brandy, and our salty dog, oona ____________________________________________________________________ Like what you see and want to pitch in for our next video 🎥 upload: http://bit.ly/one-time-donation-bb Want even MORE? We quit our corporate jobs because the traditional version of the American dream really wasn't for us, we had the house and the cars but were missing one key ingredient, FREEDOM! Freedom to be together and to live life on our terms, so after leaving our jobs we moved to Dominican Republic to learn how to kitesurf and our lives changed forever. We decided to chase the wind around North America in our self built off grid camper (van life style with large dogs) but soon, we realized that the world was huge and had incredible kite spots that could only be reached by boat so we bought a sailing catamaran without knowing how to sail and took off in an adventure. ☺ Support our production by giving this video a THUMBS UP & SUBSCRIBING ☺ Join Our Crew On Patreon: ☞ https://www.patreon.com/livinghakuna ⇩ SUBSCRIBE ⇩ https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrlbNFmD2FNK9srrkjTnIPA?sub_confirmation=1 Find our gear here: ☞ https://livinghakuna.com/our-gear/ Stay up to day with us on: ☞ Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/livinghakuna ☞ Website: https://www.livinghakuna.com ☞ Instagram: https://instagram.com/LivingHakuna/ ☞ Facebook: https://facebook.com/LivingHakuna Music: ☞ Ehrling - No Worries (ft. Can't use the dinghy because there is water in the fuel (and in the outboard itself in the meantime), and it's still blowing 25 - 30 knots most of the time. So we decide to skip Statia and Saba for the moment and return back to Sint Maarten earlier than planned. Gives us times to clear most of the job list before we go and visit friends and family for a couple of days.
Thank you to friends and family that have been asking how we have been doing since the Chinese corona virus outbreak! Your love and thoughts are much appreciated! We are Eileen and Brown Councill. Welcome to our channel and a glimpse into our life adventure! 2020 was a year of uncertainty and change (for all of us, right?), but we overcame the challenges and decided it was time to chase our dream, to sail around the world! Did I mention that we had very NO sailing experience? Before leaving Qingdao, China, our home of 4 years, we sold almost all of our earthly possessions and started our international search to find the right sailboat that we would call "home." After 5 months of unanticipated twists and turns, we found what we were looking for, a used Leopard 44' Catamaran located in St. Lucia. So, here begins our journey, filled with unmatched excitement and honestly, a bit of trepidation as well. We have much to learn as we travel the world on our floating home and we intend to document that journey and share it with you. We are so glad you have decided to join us, and we hope that you will find our story so compelling that it will inspire you to chase your dreams too! As a viewer, we consider you to be part of our family and look forward to getting to know you. Don't hesitate to comment on our videos and ask questions. We will do our best to answer every correspondence! All we ask is that you have patience with us as we work really hard to improve our camera/video techniques and ability to tell a story. We sail to Les Saintes, visit Fort Napoleon and catch a fish. Pierre and Jacques install a new fishing rod holder - great luck fro catching a tuna!. Pierre fixes a broken cleat and removes wind vibration device on the rigging. When we return to Guadeloupe and catch a tuna, Manon reels it in all by herself. Pretty good for her first time fishing from a catamaran. Music by Epidemic Sound A Bitter Love by Sven Karlsson (Intro music) It should have been you by Loving Caliber Windwalker by Killigrew
The Stretch-and-Blow Spinnaker Douse allows you to sail practically right up to the leeward the mark with the sail drawing fully. When it is time to drop the spinnaker, the pole is eased to the forestay, the sheet is over-trimmed to stretch the foot tight and then the spinnaker halyard is let run. Over trimming the spinnaker sheet brings the foot within reach of the foredeck crew. With the foot in the hands of the crew, the halyard is completely released. The top of the sail floats downward and to leeward of the jib. The air flowing beneath the jib keeps the spinnaker out of the water. The foredeck team then quickly pulls the sail under the jib and onto the deck. The stretch & blow takedown is uncomplicated, allows you to sail longer with the spinnaker drawing, and it’s great to watch from other boats.

Blake and Toby go searching for wild Tuatara reptiles in the Hauraki Gulf Islands and find one laying on a log. Blake got really close to the Tuatara and it quickly moved away. Blake also found a Weta house with giant Weta inside and he got a fright when his dad suggested a Weta was on his leg. Blake and Toby wanted to keep the location of the Tuatara private, so we have combined a mix of footage to ensure the location remains a secret and unfortunately provided little sailing footage. We are two brothers, aged 4 and 7, who love going on sailing family adventures - exploring the outdoors and finding super cool wild animals, bugs and marine life. So along with our parents, we’re sailing the world, exploring islands, and looking for interesting wildlife. We start our adventure sailing New Zealand but dream of sailing around the Mediterranean some day. We love our planet and want to look after our environment, so through our travels we hope other kids will feel inspired to care for our planet and wildlife too. A little late, but we got it posted! Not as much progress as we would have liked to make this week, so we covered a few other things. John discusses the process he uses to patch the plywood hulls, such as the grinding strategies and how to match a curve in the hull. He also shows the biggest patch we’ve done yet, and we so hope it works! This week we also got a tip from the neighbor about a sander from FESTOOL. He had an extra one that he let us borrow and try out, and it is working so well that we went ahead and ordered our own . . . more to follow on that, but we just might be done with stripping chemicals altogether! Because we are trying to move onto the boat as soon as possible, we needed to figure out how to do internet effectively while living aboard. In this episode, John covers how we put ulimited 4g internet on our catamaran, and shows it in action! Internet Talk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=csvwRV0zdJ4&t=15m43s Apparently it is pretty difficult to replace your home internet with 4G data, so we will cover a few ways to extend your plan as well. We pay $80/mo currently with Impact Wireless and get a plan with true unlimited data (and hotspot data, which isn’t required). This measns no speed throttling after x Gb, we’ve used more than 100Gb this month and are still consistently getting over 5Mb/s throughout the day . . . and that is with deprioritized data (after 50Gb for us)! The first sail of the year, a weekend cruise to Poulsbo. The boat is an Atkin designed Ingrid Ketch. It was a chilly winter sail, but almost no rain which is as good as it gets for February in Seattle!

This week, we're in La Rochelle, a favourite port for sailors for hundreds of years! The sun is shining, the beer is flowing and it's time to party like a pirate (or, ya know, an Aussie and a Brit!). Life is good! On top of that, the Greenpeace ship, 'Rainbow Warrior' makes port and we're lucky enough to witness the epic spectacle of this huge ship squeezing into an ancient harbour. Leaving the Isle of Skye behind, we make our way toward another picturesque Scottish harbour - Tobermory! After 7 days of hiding out at anchor, we leave at sunrise to make our way to the Isle of Mull. Starting out with beautiful sunshine, we soak in all the highland sights around us as the sails try to find enough wind to fill them. Rounding a notorious point, we pull into the harbour of Tobermory, full of colorful waterfront buildings and trees in the height of fall color change. Just one more harbour we wish we had the time to really get to know . Enjoy! Much love from Scotland! Jessica, Matt & Georgie Thank you SO MUCH to our Patrons. While Sailing to the Blue Hole of Belize we lost our drone and had a few dramas trying to sailing along the way. We became really indecisive of where to head to next after sailing the cayes of Belize, but before deciding what our next moves were we knew there was one thing that we couldn't miss. The Great Blue Hole is a giant marine sinkhole off the coast of Belize. It lies near the center of Lighthouse Reef, a small atoll 70 km from the mainland and Belize City. The hole is circular in shape, 318 m across and 124 m deep. So needless to say, we wanted to sail over the second largest hole in the ocean floor. We woke early one morning to make our way out of the intense barrier reef to the outlying atoll and unfortunately ran aground. Twice. Trying to find the best exit strategy we were growing more annoyed with the lack of accurate charts to navigate us out of the labyrinth of coral heads and shallow sand bars we finally made use of our drone. The drone became our eyes in the skies, looking down and ahead of where we were going, spotting the shallow bits and narrow breaks in the coral to finally make way to the Blue Hole. It has now become one of our most favorite tools to navigate when all else fails. But, just 30 minutes before reaching the Blue Hole the drone fell into the water and this was the time that we desperately needed it, not only to see what's ahead but also get the view from above. Surprisingly, what happens next will stun you. WE found the drone! In this infinite ocean, we found the drone and were able to recovery it because of the incredibly accurate GPS locator on the DJI Mavic Pro series. Sadly, the drone was dead, but because of our quick rescue response we were able to save all the footage from the last month! AND... Warren has an old beat up spare on board so we were able to fly high above the Blue Hole and float Evolias over the incredible landmark. Thanks for watching the adventures of WE! There were tears! We have been waiting for this day! We finally got our sails from Ullman Sails! Not only did we get our sails but we had Tony Boock from Boock Signs and Graphics put our logo on our sails for us! AND we got our stickers printed and put onto the side of the hulls all in one weekend. This all made for a very emotional time. We have been working so incredibly hard and feel like we are getting no where. With the sails up and the stickers on it really does feel like a huge leap forward. She is B E A U T I F U L ! We can’t thank Tony and Chris Boock (extremely hard working brothers) for all their dedicated time, advice and knowledge they have been sharing with us. None of this would have been possible without you two. Thanks also to Tony, from Ullman Sails SA for all the advice and being open to customising our main sail as requested after advice received from Alan Whitley, one of the original owners of Island Spirit Catamarans. Tony also gave us a great tour of the Ullman Sails production process whish was great and very interesting. Our Girl is all dressed up but we still have a little way to go before we can take her out!
