There's been a lot going on in the boatshed this week.I've cut black locust plugs and plugged the screw holes in the toerail; the woodwork on the main and fore decks has been prepped and varnished; the main entrance hatch is also in the process of being varnish sealed; the deck lockers and anchor chain box have all been painted out; the lazarette hatch frame has been worked and painted; a shore power connection has been prepped, and the undersides of the hatch turtle and lazarette hatch have been finished - all in preparation for the final coats of hull and deck paint!! This is the story of the building of a Jay Benford designed, 31.8ft, junk schooner-rigged cruising sailboat. The videos are a week-by-week record of the build as it progresses and aim to show as much detail as possible of the various aspects of the build. In a small designated area along the wrack line, students use a sieve to sift through sand to find and identify microplastics. These findings highlight how larger items (i.e. plastic bottles) break down into smaller and smaller pieces. This week Peanut gets a lot of TLC. Magnus installs a rail on her to help prevent damage when she comes alongside other boats and Nutshell. Magnus installs the Dragonfly echo sounder so we can poke in to the various waterways the Kimberley and check depths, before taking Nutshell in. Magnus makes a start on the new cockpit table and also works on fixing the top of the helmsman’s seat. It's a busy week of boat jobs. Magnus also makes a start on the Raspberry Pi Project. We climbed a mountain that was elevated 1800 meters above sea level for sages 20th birthday. This video is something a little different. Before Sage and I bought a boat together we made sure that we were compatible adventure buddies, which meant that we were always up for a good physical challenge. So before our sailing adventures were underway and making way, we were practicing making adventure videos with our own music. We now asks her to protect us once more as we leave the sunkissed shores of Fiji to sail our tiny home towards Tanna Island Vanuatu. On our way we are reminded that propellers are magnets for ropes and discover we have more then one stowaway on board, each seeking sanctuary to recover from what ails them. A little snowy headed seabird has taken refuge under the cockpit table, while our hitchhiking crew member Heike is recovering from an illness that has all the hallmarks of ciguartera. Unfortunately, all fingers are pointed towards Rob’s fish curry as the number one suspect. But luckily there is a test that sorts the men from the boys, the ciguartera from the gastroenteritis. In 1997, after a disastrous Olympic rowing campaign, Rob decided to row a seven-metre plywood boat, 2500 miles from Tenerife in the Canary Islands to Barbados in the Caribbean. It took 6 weeks and he and his rowing partner, Phil Stubbs, won the inaugural Atlantic Rowing Race. Skip forward to 2014, we invested in Javelot a 43 ft Fountaine Pajot catamaran. Armed only with Robert's 3 years of racing P class yachts from the age of 11 to 13, and Rachel's non existent sailing knowledge, we set off to learn the ropes of ocean sailing. We broke stuff, replaced stuff and got to know our boat before heading offshore with our three children, Finn 17, Declan 15 and Ivan 12, in tow. Through trial and error, we have become confident wayfarers, kind of. Our plan? To sail around the world, meet the locals and record our adventures. Part of the journey will be retracing Rob’s eldest brother Kerry’s travels at sea. Using Kerry’s original letters from the 1970’s we will re trace his movements from Australia through Indonesia and South East Asia to Cambodia where Kerry’s life was cut short after straying into Cambodian waters in 1978. Live With Passion 💕 ~ Your Crew: Andy, Maki, Oliver & Lukas __________________________________________ Maki's Feta Cream Cheese Pie Recipe: Americans know quite a lot about some European foods - French, Italian, Spanish, but not so much about Eastern European food. Unsurprisingly then, many Americans will never have tasted Gibanica, a traditional Serbian dish that is delicious nearly to the point of addiction. Gibanica comes in two flavors. Sweet gibanicas are crusty layered pastries with many variations. Savory gibanicas can be very hearty, with layers of delicious pastry dough and meats, or they can be entirely meatless like this one. Ingredients: 1/2 cup of yogurt or sour cream, 4 large eggs, 1/3 cup seltzer or sparkling water, 1 pound feta cheese ( crumbled), 1 pound filo “phyllo" dough, 4 tablespoons melted butter/olive oil or a combination. Instructions: Combine the eggs, feta, sour cream, and sparkling water in a medium-large bowl. Mix well and add the and freshly ground pepper. Set aside. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Set up your filo dough, pan, bowl of filling, and butter/oil. After defrosting the filo layers according to the directions on the box, lay them next to a 9 x 11" oven-safe pan. Lightly brush or spray the pan with butter/oil. Put down the first sheet of filo dough, brush it lightly with butter, oil and continue to do that until you have used about 1/3 of the filo sheets. Spread half of the filling smoothly over the top sheet of filo dough and continue adding filo dough sheets, one at a time, brushing with butter/oil after each one, until you have used another 1/3 of the filo dough sheets. Spread the remaining half of the filling on top of the last sheet of dough and use up the remaining sheets of filo dough. Brush the top sheet of filo dough. Sprinkle with Everything Bagel Seasoning. Bake for 35-45 minutes until the top is golden brown, especially around the edges. Let the Gibanica sit for about 5-10 minutes before you cut it. Tip: You can lay the filo dough flat or roll it like Maki did on the video. Maserati Multi 70 termina il suo secondo giro del mondo, ora ci aspettano grandi novità! A bordo con me, Guido Broggi, Oliver Herrera Perez, Matteo Soldini, Gero Soldini e Gianni Randelli, che hanno partecipato ai lavori in cantiere sul trimarano in Guadalupa. Siamo molto contenti di aver riportato dopo due anni Maserati Multi 70 in Italia e di navigare per la prima volta in Mediterraneo con la randa MC20. Prima di partire siamo riusciti a montare i nuovi teli sotto-rete sviluppati con gli ingegneri del Maserati Innovation Lab che hanno dato sicuramente un apporto significativo alle performance del trimarano durante questa traversata. Questo inverno faremo tanti lavori in vista di un assetto completamente nuovo, sarà un grande passo avanti per le imbarcazioni volanti oceaniche.
