One of the most famous desserts in Murcia is paparajotes, considered one of the seven gastronomic wonders of Spain along with Iberian ham or wrinkled potatoes. We tell you the family recipe of these delicious homemade paparajotes, do not miss them! Paparajote is a typical dessert from the Murcian garden. It is important to choose the perfect leaves from the local huertas (orchards). Ideal candidates should be a healthy shade of light green, and neither too soft nor too hard to the touch. After that, it’s a matter of making a batter (typically consisting of milk, eggs, flour, and a bit of yeast), coating your chosen leaf, frying it in olive oil, then dusting with sugar and cinnamon. You can also find lemon zest and a little anise in some versions. Whatever ingredients are used, you can be fairly sure they’ll be local. It just wouldn’t be a paparajote if it wasn’t Murciano. The ritual of eating paparajotes is simple, yet still seems to confound visitors to the point that it has become a cultural test. If you want to pass with flying colors, just follow these simple instructions: Pick the leaf up by its stem and pull the batter off. That’s it. Peeling the delicious sugary skin off the leaf in one smooth go is one of the greatest pleasures of Murcian gastronomy. This typical dessert usually accompanied by the malta coffee with anis liker. It is very important to remember for those who are coming to this delicious dessert for the first time that the lemon leaf it contains should not be eaten as it is very indigestible. It is used only to garnish and flavor the dough. Paparajotes are available only in Murcia, typically during the spring. You can find them during festivals such as Bando de la Huerta. Be sure not to get paparajotes mixed up with papajotes, a fried dough ball from the Andalusian city of Jaén. You won’t find genuine Murciano lemon leaves in those! .. Always wanted to visit "Mo-Bay" area and the famous Montego Bay Yacht Club. From Ocho Rios we motor-sailed to Montego Bay, our last stop in Jamaica. Anchored off the quiet Montego Bay Yacht Club, where we sheltered from a strong NE weather front for 3 days before exploring the local area. Not so impressed with the town itself, we rented a car and headed to Rose Hall Great House, a restored plantation estate with a sinister history and story of The White Witch. Then spent an afternoon in the wonderful Half Moon resort, which had both a modern section at one end and the original famous hotel at the other. All very exquisite. Our last day was spend in the nearby Secrets Resort, where Oana was pampered prior to the next sailing passage to Cayman. 7-12 March 2020

Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V770 with a Rode External mic. My old camera is now my number 2 is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. First we thought we'd be leaving the marina at the beginning of April, but after COVID, that idea was pushed to mid-May. Well, while day sails were allowed, it wasn't until July 4th that cruising became permitted again and we were let out of lockdown to begin our season. As we're released from our marina, we wanted to keep close and see all the sights of the Plymouth area that had been off limits to us as cruisers for the past few months. Heading up the Tamar River, we branched off into the Lynher River where we found a nice secure spot just before Dandy Hole to drop our anchor. And although there is a lot to see by boat and by dinghy, before we could get too far away from Plymouth, we had our friend Alasdair (@bongo_sails) drive us into Dartmoor National Park for a hike around the reservoir. In this episode, we sail from Long Island to Water Cay, north of the Ragged Island chain and enjoy perfect conditions with light breeze and the clearest, bluest water we’ve ever seen. We are visited by a dolphin and manage to catch a fish for dinner. The following day we do it all over again as we make our way down the island chain. Sailing these islands is the beginning of an adventure (an adventure within an adventure?) that in our wildest dreams we could never have imagined.
