Leaving Magnetic Island, Townsville we have a fantastic downwind sail out to John Brewer Reef where we dive the Museum of Underwater Art. With perfect glass out conditions we then dive on the reef wall with superb visibility and happily find amazing colourful coral all in a very healthy condition. We free dive inside the lagoon and use our spear gun for the first time in almost 2 years since carrying it onboard, and find the largest Triton shell in amazing condition that we have seen. For dinner we spear a snapper and coral trout, and also catch a very nice painted cray which we bring to a shared dinner on SV Vamonos. We have been here for 4 months now as we wait for the rainy season to end and the sailing season to start. Despite having 4 months to plan where we will go and when, we are still without a fixed plan. Not a bad thing though as we have found most plans we have made have had to change due to COVID so we remain open to change and accept that whatever plan we may have at the moment, it may have to change at short notice. This video shows you where we buy our groceries as well as the excitement and stress of having your yacht lifted out and placed on the hard. We have had some challenging shopping experiences since we started as well as some really easy ones. The easy ones are when there is a large supermarket close to where we are anchored and they deliver the food to the dock for us to collect in the dinghy. Other shopping experiences have been far more challenging and character building. We have walked kilometres to shops and had to buy as much as we can possibly carry between the 4 of us. The walk back is always full of moans and groans from all of us but despite this we still seem to have a good time and continue to laugh about them months later. Now we have 2 ways of dealing with getting shopping back from shops which are far away from the boat. In Colombia we purchased 2 folding shopping carts which we can pack quite a lot into and wheel these back to the boat. The other thing we do is take one or 2 bicycles with us and we then hang the shopping bags off the handlebars and seat. This has worked out well. The shopping options here in Linton Bay go from the most basic to large supermarkets in Panama City. There is a wide range of choice depending on how far you are prepared to travel and how much money you want to spend. Panama City is an hour and a half drive away and unless you get a lift there, it can cost about $50 each way in a taxi so we avoid doing this. You can get the basics in the local shops in Linton Bay and by far the best option is to use the services of Tatiana, a local lady, who will take your shopping list and go to the larger shops outside of Linton Bay and buy what you need for a small fee. There is definitely a business opportunity here in the marina for a good shop. They have the space to do this and hopefully they will in the near future as the demand is here. The sailing community is amazing. We love meeting all sorts of people. Unlike life on land, the community doesn’t care about what boat you have or where you are from. We are all on an adventure. Not necessarily going the same way, but we are adventure seekers and we help each other when we can. There are some yachts in Linton Bay who spend a lot of time in San Blas and they worked together to host a fundraiser to raise money to buy food for the locals living in San Blas which they delivered there on their yachts and then came back to Linton Bay. A great achievement and we have a lot of respect for the people involved. Well done. We have been on an incredible family adventure recently and have some amazing footage which we are working on at the moment. Look out for our next episode to see where we go.

Mid-Week Football Chat Written by Conner Pack Week 4 Games - Titans vs. Steelers both 3-0. (Game postponed) On paper, these two teams are very similar. Both can score points (26.7 ppg) and both run the ball very well (Steelers 139.7 rushing yards per game, Titans 129.0 rushing yards per game). Where they differ is defensively. The Steelers have the best rush defense, allowing just 54.0 rushing yards per game (Titans have the league’s leading rusher in Derrick Henry who’s averaging 106.3 yards per game). Also, the Steelers are top five in scoring defense (allowing just 19.3 ppg). As for the Titans, they’ve given up points and yards, but have forced turnovers. The Titans have a +5 turnover differential. They’ve forced 6 turnovers which is tied for second best in the NFL. Unfortunately, this game will not be played this weekend. Whenever it’s played it should be a good one. - Vikings vs. Texans which 0-3 team gets a win? The Vikings and Texans both have gotten off to bad starts in 2020. Both currently sit at 0-3 and have struggled mightily on the offensive side of the ball. For the Vikings, as bad as they’ve been offensively, they’ve been equally as bad on defense. Defensively, they’re giving up 440.0 yards per game (30th) and allowing 34.0 ppg (31st). That’s definitely not what I expected from a Mike Zimmer coached defense that also made changes and acquired talent over the offseason. Offensively, Kirk Cousins has just been flat out bad. Whether it’s play calling or poor decision making, Cousins and the Vikings offense simply haven’t been able to get on track. Through three weeks, Cousins has thrown 5 TD’s and 6 INT’s and has a 59% competition percentage (31st). For the Texans, Deshaun Watson has done all he can to keep the Texans afloat. Offensively, they’re a depleted team that lacks explosive plays. They struggle to convert third downs and move the chains (12-31 on third down 38.7% which is 23rd). Defensively, they’re solid, but due to a lack of offensive production they just can’t muster up enough to keep the Texans alive and in games. Ultimately, I’m just curious to see which 0-3 team is able to break the slump and get a win. I expected the Texans to be bad but definitely didn’t expect the Vikings to be this bad. - Patriots head to Arrow Head to face off against Chiefs Always a fun and exciting AFC matchup is the New England Patriots vs. Kansas City Chiefs. Two great head coaches that utilize their players to the fullest of their potential. We’ve been used to Brady in New England but now we have Cam Newton. Now, Newton has played fantastic through three games with the Patriots. Offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels has done a wonderful job of scheming and dialing up plays that suit Newton’s style of play and Newton has greatly benefited. The Chiefs on the other hand have been the Chiefs. Explosive and creative offense that finds ways to score. Defensively, especially on Monday night against Baltimore, they’ve really stepped up and became a unit that really compliments their offense. Going into Sunday’s matchup, we know they’re going to score points, but how will this defense fair against Newton and the Patriots offense? Will they stifle him like they did Lamar Jackson? That’s what I’m curious to see. This should be one of the more exciting games on Sunday afternoon. Topics - Philadelphia Eagles struggles I could go on and on about the Eagles struggles. I’ll just keep it simple here. Yes, quarterback Carson Wentz isn’t playing good. The whole team isn’t playing good. The receiving core is depleted. Head coach Doug Pederson has to be more creative. I believe the Eagles can turn things around, but it’s going to have to take the entire team. Wentz must play better, but the guy needs help and guys he can trust. - Brady and Bucs beginning to roll After a shaky week one performance, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers look to have turned the corner. They’ve won their last two games by a combined score of 59-27. Brady is looking sharp as he and his receivers really look to be finding a rhythm. Currently, the Buccaneers are first in the NFC South. From the looks of it, this team is just beginning to heat up. Watch out. - Unbeaten Teams rankings Self explanatory. - Foles new starter in Chicago Finally, once again, quarterback Nick Foles is a starter in the NFL. One of the most overhyped backup quarterbacks in the history of the league has taken over in Chicago after leading a fourth quarter Bears comeback against the Atlanta Falcons last Sunday. Foles had a great performance throwing 3 touchdowns in the fourth quarter alone. Going forward though, what is the ultimate vision Bears head coach Matt Nagy has for Foles and the quarterback position? Foles typically catches lightning in a bottle, but once that lightning is gone, he becomes an average to below average NFL quarterback. Now, what’s great for Foles, is he has history with both Matt Nagy and quarterbacks coach John DeFillippo. So, time will tell.

Nous sommes restés en Martinique entre fin mai et début juillet 2020. Nous avons profité de ce temps pour louer à deux reprises des voitures pour faire le tour de l’île. Nous avons fait quelques randonnées telles que la Montagne Pelée, la cascade de Didier ainsi que les distilleries (celles qui étaient ouvertes), les sources d’eau, la côte Est, le Sud, etc. On a également fait tous les mouillages en face de Fort de France et passé plusieurs jours à l’ancre à St Pierre ainsi qu’aux Anses D’Arlet et Sainte Anne. Nous avons fait des rencontres exceptionnelles avec des habitants et qui resteront toujours dans nos mémoires. Nous allons y revenir une fois la saison cyclonique 2020 terminée. Il y a encore tellement de choses à découvrir en. Martinique ainsi que revoir nos amis Martiniquais ! PS: Notamment les distilleries de Rhum car à cause du Covid plusieurs d’entre elles étaient fermées :-(

Nach der quirligen Hauptstadt von Estland geht’s weiter an der estnischen Küste. Die beiden Strecken waren nicht lang aber ungemütlich. Wir hatten Regen und mehr Wind als angesagt. Dafür war die Küste interessant anzusehen. In Lohusalu wurde nur für uns die deutsche Fahne gehisst und wir wurden beim Geocachen von einem süßen Kätzchen begleitet. In Dirhami konnte wir hervorragend im Restaurant am Hafen „Dirham Fish Cafe“ essen und beim Fest des Fisches die Wettangler bestaunen. Domingo passado rolou a 2 etapa da copa Suzuki em Ilhabela. A previsão era de vento leste para o último dia da regata porém o que rolou foi um vento forte de sul que fez a mesma ser cancelada enquanto o evento ainda acontecia. Nas imagens os barcos se aprontam para a linha de largada.

Non contenta di essere sulla striscia dell'atollo più abitata, dove fa bella mostra di sé oltre la chiesa anche un villaggio turistico di alto livello, presi una barchetta che andava a Tiputà, il villaggio autentico di pescatori che sta dall'altra parte della pass (il passaggio di mare che divide una parte dell'atollo dall'altra e che mette in comunicazione l'oceano con la laguna). Una volta sbarcata mi venne incontro l'uomo più tatuato del mondo, un re-re (un ragazzo fatto crescere come se fosse una fanciulla) che si lamentava per il duro destino di un cane a cui avevano tagliato le orecchie in quanto era destinato di lì a poco ad essere mangiato... e una signora si mise ad urlare che noi, io e Giuseppe che riprendeva, eravamo italiani come "Albertò" che stava nel villaggio da tempo. Poi arrivò Albertò, un bianco corpulento con un fisico da paracadutista, ma con un po' di pinguedine che mi era familiare... Albertò mi disse con un accento bolognese: "Tu sei la Syusy, ti conosco, sei di Bologna, anche io abito a San Lazzaro!". Albertò era ben inserito nel villaggio, alla mia domanda su che cosa facesse lì rispose che 'pescava'. Stava in Polinesia da qualche anno, si era innamorato di Miss Thaiti e aveva avuto una figlia da lei, India, di pochi anni. La stessa età di Zoe, mia figlia. Facemmo un po' di filosofia su cosa era o no il paradiso e poi noi ce ne andammo. Pensavamo di non rivederci mai più, ma l'anno dopo ci siamo incontrati a Bologna, in centro, sotto la pioggia e con il cappotto. Aveva lasciato la Polinesia e aveva portato la bambina in Italia per educarla all'occidentale, diceva che la Polinesia andava bene per non fare nulla, ma per stare nel mondo una bambina va educata da noi... India aveva l'età di Zoe e hanno iniziato insieme le elementari. India era bellissima, dolcissima, intelligentissima, giocava a scacchi e vinceva sempre. Era una gigantessa del Pacifico, a 6 anni superava Zoe di mezzo metro, tutti i suoi vestiti passati a Zoe le andavano bene anni dopo. Era una sicurezza, se Zoe aveva dei problemi coi maschi prepotenti li minacciava di chiamare India. Divennero amiche 'per sempre' come dicono loro e si sono sempre tenute in contatto. India è cresciuta in Italia e non è mai tornata nella sua terra natale, coltivando però il sogno del suo ritorno per stare con la madre e per conoscere la sua famiglia polinesiana. Compiuti i 18 anni questo sogno l'ha realizzato, Zoe ed io siamo andate con lei. E questa è la sua storia. We decide to sail north towards the Channel Islands and Santa Barbara. As you can see in the video, the smoke from the wildfires becomes more and more prominent the further North we sail. Silly Sea Creatures with Naja and Taj: Bioluminesence. A little buddy comes and visits us at our guest slip in Oxnard. And being 5 years old can be a challange with limited space to move around.

As you may have seen in my previous video, I've now moved up my departure date for my solo sail from Tokyo to Vancouver via "Nemo North" (the furthest point from land in any direction in the Northern Hemisphere) to spring/summer 2021. And boy, do I have work to do! Here's a recap of a 10-day training sail that took me from Yuminoshima in Tokyo Bay to Shimoda, from Shimoda to Misaki, a day trip from Misaki to Enoshima and back, and then a return to Yuminoshima. Plenty of adventure along the way, including dragging my anchor for a spell, losing--and retrieving!--my gaffer pole, and a near miss with a fishing boat in the wee hours of the morning.
