Life on a boat is never without its problems and we've become pretty good a problem-solving. We fix our generator issue by purchasing a new one but even the new generator comes with its own issues. We prevent a problem from occurring by installing a water-fuel separator for our outboard, FiFi, in the dinghy. One of our biggest problems, when we leave the marina, will be getting Voodoo on and off the boat, so we design and create a step off the back of the transom for him to climb on. We are Shawn, Jessie, Mojo and Voodoo. We started our Youtube channel, Big Easy Sailing, to document our journey on our 1972 Gulfstar 36 sailboat. Beating our brains out sailing into 35 knot winds while getting pounded by BIG waves and never ending squalls.... This video definitely shows the less glamorous part of our lifestyle! Brian described it pretty well - “I don’t think any of us wish we where here right now.” Not only was our sanity put on test but Delos took quite a beating too. With constant wind shifts we rip our sail and the bow starts filling up with bucketloads of salt water every wave we hit!! NOT IDEAL! After a night anchored by the Statue of Liberty we move the boat to an anchorage in Coney Island Creek with better access to shore. We explore New York City for a day and then head back out to sea. Welcome here :) We are grinding maniacs in this episode. We grind gel coat, and then grind gel coat some more and in between we talk about how it's going grinding gel coat. And it is going well. We are making progress at a GREAT pace and are feeling excited to be uncovering a better concept map for the repairs ahead. The first two days of grinding we carefully took off most of our gear inside the boat so that we wouldn't track dust onto the cockpit. We wanted to keep that area clean because it's where the dogs were hanging out. It didn't work well enough for how overly protective we are so we ended up finding an awesome dog sitter and sent them to get all the love and cuddles in a non-fiberglass environment. We missed them, but it did make it easier to take cool down breaks and made it possible for us to vent our space a bit better. Plus, the dog sitter had kids and our dogs LOVE kids. Brett managed to find a full face respirator which was such a great find! Keep in mind this video was back in the days of complete PPE shortages. We were super excited for the full face set up. I figured out that wearing my n95 mask underneath my respirator added the extra layer of protection I needed to keep my lungs gel coat free. Keep in mind we bought her at auction without ever meeting the owner! The owner was sailing along and ran aground - hard. Hard enough that the keel pivoted and pushed the aft end up into the hull. This force cracked the internal grid in several places and broke a portion of the grid free from hull. At some point an inspection was done, insurance was called and decisions were made. After FAIL #1, It's ATTEMPT #2! Passage From USVI to GRENADA! Scenic Tour of ST. CROIX! This week, after a failed attempt at passage from St. John to Grenada due to crazy weather and squalls, we find ourselves sheltering at St. Croix. We make use of our 3 day layover by renting a car and touring the whole island! It was a whirlwind of sightseeing and now we can't wait to go back and spend more time there. Truly beautiful! We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach in Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony with our 4 kids, just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, two years after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is! As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted. Mostramos também, alguns detalhes de marcenaria e como preparamos a madeira até ela se tornar uma peça como “batente” para as portas dos armários. Er komt best wat kijken bij het maken van een oversteek, waarbij we ook 's nachts doorvaren. Praktische zaken zoals het 'in huis' hebben van voldoende boodschappen, alvast eten koken en een zeekooi opmaken. Maar zeker ook het plannen van de route: wat gaat de wind doen? Wat komen we allemaal tegen op deze tocht. In dit geval moeten we boven de waddeneilanden twee zogenaamde shipping lanes oversteken: grote scheepvaart vaart hier, met flinke snelheid, van oost naar west en andersom. Wel iets om rekening mee te houden natuurlijk. Kijk mee hoe we aan deze voorbereidingen werken én hoe de oversteek naar Denemarken begint! We vinden het heel leuk om van je te horen hoe je de video vond! Wij zijn Ben en Felia. Jaren hebben wij de droom gehad om samen over de wereld te zeilen.
