Half way back to Los Angeles, right in the middle of the shipping channel we came across a very spooky "Ghost Ship" that had its anchor hanging down in the 1400 ft of water and was towing a half sunk dinghy. It was an eerie sight! after circling and calling out we called it into the USCG. After that we took in a beautiful sunset and made our way home completely under sail power! We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach in Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony with our 4 kids, just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, two years after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is! As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted. Our time window to get to Annapolis was rapidly closing as we waited for some good weather. To cut the time down while we were waiting, we decied to take our catamaran on an ICW sailing road trip. We wouldn't recommend doing it the way we did, but 231 nautical miles over 4 days made us ICW experts. No momento de fazer o livro, o autor entrevistou os membros da expedição que ainda estavam vivos e teve acesso a diferentes diários de forma a apontar diferentes pontos de vista e construir uma narrativa extremamente completa. 2- "South: The Story of Shackleton's Last Expedition 1914-1917 (English Edition)" by Ernest Shackleton: https://amzn.to/3cR8i8q Infelizmente não encontrei a versão traduzida em português, não sei se existe. Este livro assinado por Shackleton como autor mas escrito por um ghost writer, tem a forma de um diário de bordo e não tem a leitura tão fluida. Por ser a 'versão oficial', acaba por ocultar os atritos, motins e sua crise de ciática no auge do perrengue. No entanto traz algo que não encontrei em nenhum outro livro que é a história do navio Aurora que seria a embarcação a resgatar a equipe no outro extremo do continente. Pouca gente sabe, mas a tripulação do Aurora tinha a difícil missão de deixar suprimentos ao longo do caminho e passou por incríveis provações, cumprindo o trabalho mesmo sem ter provisões e roupas adequadas. Sua história não deixa absolutamente nada a desejar em termos de perrengue nível hard na Antártica. 3- "Shackleton's Boat Journey" by F. A. Worsley: https://amzn.to/3l8GC1U Só conheço este livro em inglês, mas pra mim é DE LONGE O MELHOR!! Quem já conhece a história sabe que é unânime que a navegação de 800 milhas considerada praticamente impossível feita da Ilha Elefante até a Ilha Georgia do Sul pelo Drake só foi concretizada devido às habilidades de navegação incrivelmente afiadas do capitão do Endurance Frank Worsley. O feito foi justamente ao praticamente não ter a oportunidade de tirar a posição por sextante devido ao céu encoberto grande parte do tempo, ter que se valer da navegação estimada pra literalmente achar uma agulha em um palheiro. Ao contrário do que muita gente pensa, Shackleton não era o capitão do navio, era o líder da expedição, o capitão era Worsley. Este livro de autoria do próprio é incrivelmente flúido em seu texto, uma delícia de leitura e se inicia quando zarpam da Ilha Elefante para Georgia. Traz a visão do grande prodígio e fala em detalhes da dificuldade desse grande feito. 4- "The Endurance: Shackleton's Legendary Antarctic Expedition" by Caroline Alexander and Frank Hurley: https://amzn.to/3ipl92V Por sorte a equipe de Shackleton contava com um excelente fotógrafo e eles conseguiram retornar com diversos negativos que na época eram de vidro e super pesados. O fotógrafo Frank Hurley foi escolhido a dedo por sua incrível capacidade de fazer fotos na natureza. Este livro conta resumidamente a história mas sua beleza está justamente no compilado das fotos que são de uma beleza e nitidez que é difícil acreditar. Existe uma versão em português mas infelizmente parece que está esgotada. suite et dernier épisode avant la prochaine saison 2020/2021 je quitte en solo⛵🌞 Agadir au Maroc vers l’île Espagnole de Lanzarote je vais prendre du force 6, rafales de 7 avec une houle de travers et parfois croisé et cela pendant toute la traversée d'environ 48h navigation désagréable et compliqué surtout que la nuit le vent est monté jusqu'à 40 nœuds de vent en raison du Covid, la prochaine saison devrait démarrer en octobre 2021 avec une découverte des îles Canaries puis cap sur la Mauritanie, Cap vert, Sénégal et enfin la Gambie mais avec le covid il risque d y avoir des modifications d’itinéraire, espérons que non merci à vous tous d'avoir pris le temps de regarder ce périple sur instagram sailing.into.the.wild
