How much damage is too much? Will I be able to repair this sailing catamaran and rebuild it to be like new? Will it break again. Is it the end of the world? All this and more in this episode. We'll take a look at the bulkheads to see how bad they are. Also we'll look at the big hole in the bottom of the boat that was patched up for the voyage back. Due to my work schedule and bad weather, I haven't had a lot of time to get a lot of work done on the boat, but that should change soon and I'll get back to the fiberglass repair. There is always something to fix on a boat! Ever since we painted our topsides last year, Yosh is like an old man with his front lawn and when something happens to his paint... LOOK OUT! The nesting has officially begun and whilst Bonita is cleaning and cleansing the boat ready for the new baby, more problems are found. At least we can now travel inter province around Malaysia so we head to Harbour master and clear out of Langkawi. Our long 6 months on the island has come to an end and it is time to move on to greener pastures! Does the boat work ever end? there is always something to fix on a boat! With no sailing experience, we bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off from Australia sailing to the Pacific! We have since cruised through New Caledonia, Vanuatu, the Solomon islands, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and then onto the boat yard in Malaysia to prepare for the years to come. With a new engine, we continued onto Thailand, then back down into Indonesia and specifically West Sumatra to live the island life and chase the surf. With our Sailing plans changing, we returned to Thailand to wait for the weather and begin our journey to the northern route of the Indian Ocean to Sri Lanka before heading south across the Indian Ocean once cyclone season has finished and the trade winds begin! We were on our shake down sail when the mooring we were on failed and our home ended up on the reef. We saved the old girl and got her back to the boat yard for repairs to continue on our adventure! Ready to sail across the Indian Ocean, we were only days away from leaving when the pandemic begun closing countries around us... We are stuck for now, but enjoying the slower pace! We departed the east coast of Australia in July 2017 and have since sailed over 10000nm offshore. We have explored some amazing countries and met some beautiful people along the way. We have experienced so many different and diverse cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our lives doing it! The adventure is just beginning as we sail West with the trades around the World! What a nightmare! From scheduling issues to misogyny, this video has it all. We FINALLY get the keel dropped on our Beneteau 49 that we bought at auction so we can finish the fiberglass repairs. Keep in mind we bought her at auction without ever meeting the owner! The owner was sailing along and ran aground - hard. Hard enough that the keel pivoted and pushed the aft end up into the hull. This force cracked the internal grid in several places and broke a portion of the grid free from hull. At some point an inspection was done, insurance was called and decisions were made. After 5 months in isolation we are finally allowed to sail and explore the local area. Exploring deserted tropical beaches and sailing to the local town to do our own shopping has never felt so liberating. Our circumnavigation is still on hold but we can now escape our isolation anchorage and explore some of Indonesia's most beautiful islands. This new found freedom to explore afloat and ashore has lifted our spirits rekindled our love of the cruising life. P.S. Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V770 with a Rode External mic. My old camera is now my number 2 is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. We found this Beauty sitting in a Marina in Sant Carles del Rapita Marina. We waited 7 years after looking at so many boats, She was waiting for us patiently. This lady was well taken care of when We found her, all needed to do was move in and give her Love. ❤⛵ We did.... and ended up sitting 4 months in #Quarantine in Spain. We could not leave the vessel only to the store. Those 4 months We could not take her out for a sail. Now We are free to take her out of the Marina to destinations We planned for a long time.
