I sold my house, cleared out my belongings, and began purchasing mountains of sailing equipment. “Cast off!” was planned for early March 2021—and that's how it turned out, despite COVID-19. Brigitta was completely surprised, of course, even though sailing around the world fit much better into her professional life than mine. Over the next six months, however, Brigitta made an amazing transformation and is now just as excited about our big adventure as I am. We have now been traveling for a total of four and a half years. One adventure follows another, and we enjoy every day anew. In search of freedom and independence, a thirst for adventure, and a connection to nature, we – Brigitta and Hannes – are sailing around the world together. For this circumnavigation, we bought the Lagoon 40 MariaNoa catamaran, with which we set off on the Barfußroute from the French Atlantic coast at the beginning of March 2021. Für diese Weltumsegelung haben wir uns den Katamaran Lagoon 40 MariaNoa gekauft, mit dem wir Anfang März 2021 von der französischen Atlantikküste auf die Barfußroute gestartet sind. Life can be spartan at times due to a lack of supplies, sleep is patchy in wind and swell, and movement is often restricted. So it's no surprise that we sailors don't turn down the chance to share the comfort and luxury of a vacation resort with other tourists, but welcome it with open arms. In most resorts, sailors and the money they bring with them are not welcome. Only a few resort managers understand that sailors are quite wealthy, usually very sociable, and that their yachts are a welcome decoration in the harbor basin. Segeln ins Paradies: Eine Reise ins ultimative Inselresort MUSKET COVE | SV MariaNoa | #143d Segler lieben es in einsamen Buchten vor Anker zu gehen, die Welt da zu erleben, wo sonst niemand hinkommt. Das Leben ist mangels Versorgung dabei manchmal spartanisch, der Schlaf ist bei Wind und Schwell lückenhaft, die Bewegungsmöglichkeiten sind oft eingeschränkt. Deshalb ist es uns Seglern nicht zu verdenken, dass wir ein Angebot den Komfort und Luxus eines Urlaubsresorts mit anderen Touristen zu teilen, nicht ausschlagen, sondern herzlich begrüßen. In den meisten Resorts sind Segler und das Geld, das sie mitbringen, nicht willkommen. Nur wenige Resortsleiter begreifen, dass Segler durchaus zahlungskräftig, meist ausgesprochen umgänglich und ihre Yachten schon optisch eine begrüßenswerte Dekoration im Hafenbecken sind. A R B E I T E N im Masttop | SY MariaNoa | #141d Wir sind zurück von unserem Heimaturlaub in Deutschland. Von Hongkong kommend haben wir noch einige Tage in der Vuda Marina auf Fidschi gebucht, um Arbeiten an MariaNoa durchzuführen, die unterwegs unmöglich sind. Jedes Mal wenn wir nach längerer Abwesenheit auf MariaNoa zurückkehren, ist die Spannung groß. Aber auch dieses Mal gibt es weder Schimmel- noch Insektenbefall. Zu Übungszwecken entferne ich in geringer Höhe am Mast alte Umlenkrollen, die schon lange nicht mehr benutzt werden. Hier bringe ich auch das erste Mal die Autofolie zum Einsatz. Mit dem Mast direkt vor der Nase ist es schwierig, die Folie horizontal aufzukleben. Auch ganz blasenfrei wird die Oberfläche leider nicht. ▬ Über diesen Film ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Die bisher vorhandenen Umlenkrollen in der Endlosleine zum Furler des Gennacker habe ich durch Rollen mit Klemmen ersetzt. Hierdurch erhoffe ich mir zusätzliche Sicherheit, dass der Gennacker sich nicht ungewollt entrollt. Um die Rollen zu tauschen musste die Endlosleine aufgeschnitten und somit ersetzt werden. In 18 Meter Höhe ist der Mast glücklicherweise genauso ruhig wie weiter unten. In zwei Eimern habe ich hoffentlich alles Werkzeug dabei, das ich brauche. Der Arbeitsablauf ist ähnlich, wie weiter unten. Zunächst werden die erst kürzlich montierten Schotdurchführungen wieder demontiert. Hierfür müssen die hochfesten Monel Blindnieten ausgebohrt werden. Der Arbeitsbereich mit seinen verbleibenden Bohrungen wird mit der Autofolie beklebt. Daraufhin werden je ein StandUpBlock von Lewmar für den Parasailor und den Gennacker montiert. Entstanden war die Neuordnung des Masttops durch den neuen Gennacker. Um diesen zu befestigen, musste wiederum der Befestigungspunkt für den Parasailor weiter nach oben verschoben werden. Die kürzlich montierten Schotdurchführungen hatten leider zum Schamfielen der Fallen geführt – so konnte das nicht bleiben. Habt Ihr konkrete Fragen? We are on our way to Germany for our annual home vacation. To break up the absurd long flight, we planned a stopover in Hong Kong. The first 10-hour flight leg takes us from Nadi International Airport directly to Hong Kong with Fiji Air. We got up early. At 5:00 a.m. the taxi picks us up directly from the ship. The Fiji Air plane is 5 hours late, so we don't land in Hong Kong before sunset. Wir sind zu unserem jährlichen Heimaturlaub auf dem Weg nach Deutschland. Um den absurd langen Flug etwas aufzulockern haben wir einen Stopover in Hongkong eingeplant. Die erste 10-stündige Flugetappe führt mit Fidschi-Air von Nadi International Airport im Direktflug nach Hongkong. Wir sind früh aufgestanden. Um 5:00 Uhr holt uns das Taxi direkt vom Schiff ab. Die Fidschi-Air Maschine hat 5 Stunden Verspätung, sodass wir erst nach Sonnenuntergang in Hongkong landen. Nanuya Lailai is an island in the Yasawa group. It is located north of Nanuya Levu, which was used as a filming location for the film “The Blue Lagoon”. “The Blue Lagoon” is an American drama film from 1980 based on the 1908 novel of the same name by Henry Stacpoole - starring Brooke Shields and Christopher Atkins. This is where we take part in our first Kava ceremony at Semi`s Kava Night. Hours earlier, the food had been buried in an earthen oven and was now being carefully dug up again under the spotlight. Apart from a manta that swam under MariaNoa on Bora Bora, we had so far been denied an encounter with these majestic animals. In the Manta Ray Alley we encounter the Manta Ray several times. The animals know exactly how deep a snorkeling person can get and keep a close distance. They are huge – at least as big as our dingy and that is almost 3 m long. Durch Zufall ankern wir vor der Vuda Marina am Tag des Ocean Film Festivals. Im Boatshed Restaurant jagt eine Performance die nächste. Zur Begrüßung spielt eine Band bekannte songs. Darauf halten in traditionellen Baströcken gekleidete Männer eine Zeremonie ab, die das Übersetzen eines Schiffes beinhaltet. In der Mythologie von Fidschi hat das Übersetzen eines Schiffes eine tiefere symbolische Bedeutung. Die Hauptrollen spielten Brooke Shields und Christopher Atkins. An diesem Ort nehmen wir bei Semi`s Kava Night an unserer ersten Kava-Zeremonie teil. Schon Stunden zuvor, waren die Speisen in einem Erdofen vergraben worden, die nun bei Scheinwerferlicht vorsichtig wieder ausgegraben werden. Das Essen ist sehr lecker und die Atmosphäre mysthisch. Im Somosomo Village gehen wir an Land. Eine Bewohnerin nimmt sich sofort unser an und führt uns quer durchs Dorf zum Chief. Nach kurzer Verzögerung werden wir in einer s.g. SevuSevu empfangen. Wir überreichen einen Bund Kava-Wurzeln und leisten eine Spende. Der Chief heißt uns herzlich willkommen. Wir dürfen so oft wir wollen durchs Dorf laufen und in der Bucht ankern. Dafür haben wir uns den Katamaran Lagoon 40 MariaNoa gekauft, mit dem wir Anfang März 2021 von der französischen Atlantikküste auf die Barfußroute gestartet sind. Im Frühjahr 2020 erhielt ich die Diagnose Morbus Parkinson. Plötzlich beschleunigte sich mein Leben erheblich, ich verkaufte mein Haus, löste den Hausrat auf und begann Berge an Schiffsausrüstung anzuschaffen. „Leinen los!“ war für Anfang März 2021geplant – und so kam es auch, trotz Corona. Brigitta war natürlich erst einmal vollkommen überrascht, obwohl eine Weltumsegelung wesentlich besser in Ihr berufliches Leben als Vorruheständlerin passte als in meins. In den letzten 6 Monaten hat Sie aber eine erstaunliche Entwicklung hinter sich gebracht und freut sich auf unser großes Abenteuer genau wie ich. A white tip reef shark keeps roaming around us. We actually meet a subspecies of the movie-famous clownfish. The blue subspecies is also called false anemonefish. We disembark in Somosomo Village. A resident immediately takes care of us and leads us across the village to the chief. After a short delay we will be in a so-called SevuSevu received. We hand over a bunch of kava roots and make a donation. The chief welcomes us warmly. We can walk through the village and anchor in the bay as often as we want. We bought the catamaran Lagoon 40 MariaNoa with which we set off on the barefoot route from the French Atlantic coast at the beginning of March 2021. For many years, sailing around the world had been my (Hanne's) big dream, which I wanted to realize when I retired due to my career. But sometimes life turns out differently than you planned. In spring 2020 I was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. Suddenly my life sped up considerably, I sold my house, cleared out the household contents and started buying mountains of marine equipment. “Cast off!” was planned for the beginning of March 2021 - and that's how it happened, despite Corona.
